25.01.2022 It's starting to feel a lot like...Naidoc Week here at the Ganalili Centre...

24.01.2022 The team had a restful break with family and friends and now we are back with our doors open and feeling positive and energised for 2021. (And our aircon is fixed, too!). How is everyone feeling about 2021? A film still from drone footage of Yindjibarndi Ngurra over the holiday period.
24.01.2022 During our photography workshop this week, weve been working on collaborative portraits, thinking about how portraits tell our stories and how a subject can co...llaborate with their photographer to achieve a shared vision. Samantha Walker @samanthawalker3955 worked with Chemise Cameron @chenise_cameron to create portraits which represent her shyness and create a sense of mystery. Weve been working with some great equipment this week from @canonaustralia @teamprotog @elinchrom_ltd. Thanks to @formwa for bringing us all together this week. See more

21.01.2022 We had the pleasure of hosting Channel 7's Caravan and Camping WA show the other day at Ganalili Centre. It is always a fun time when national TV shows come to visit. You can watch the promo here, or the full episode on the 7plus website here: https://7plus.com.au/caravan-camping-western-australia. The two who fought the global mining giants, Michael Woodley was... victorious in having FMG thrown out from the high court regarding an appeal to mine on their country. Robert Eggington who recently organised the rallies against Rio Tinto and on the eve of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples Day asserted to enforce Rio Tinto to turn off its massive neon sign over the city scape of Perth regarding the damage that they have done to the Worlds Indigenous peoples and their lands. 18.01.2022 A Little Gem of a place "We stopped in here today at the advice of the Karratha Information Centre people. Were so glad we did. The artwork and the handicraft by local people was well worth a look. There were inter-active display boards that detailed the flora, fauna and some historical events and sites of the area. The highlight of our visit however, was meeting and talking to Hayden. He freely shared his knowledge, pride and strong connection to this land.... He told us about his blind great-great grandfather "Toby". He even sang us some of the songs his ancestor had composed about the beautiful places around here. The songs were beautiful and painted pictures of the land as "Toby" had envisioned it. This Centre is a fairly recent addition to the tourist experiences of the area. It is well worth a visit." -Jodie R from Bunbury https://bit.ly/2Dyg4XA See more

The staff were very friendly and welcoming with a great range of art and other merchandise, touch table technology with maps and language. They were passionate about engaging their children in the story sharing. We were so glad we stopped." https://bit.ly/30OUQha

14.01.2022 Which slide is your fav of Pearlina with Harry Mills’s Mens Tee 1, 2 or 3? The T-shirt is based on the artwork Birrimirndi Warlu Under Water in Jindawurrunha by Mills, and is screen printed in WA on to an AS staple cotton tee. We’ve got them new in store and are loving them as much as Pearl does!
13.01.2022 Another 5 star review on Google Business! "A beautiful gallery and cultural centre. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, generously sharing the stories from the Yindjibarndi people. Interactive displays allow visitors to then examine the stories at their own pace. Lovely artworks, t-shirts, scarves and other items available featuring work by local artists. Its all not for profit, so all proceeds go back into the community. Definitely a must visit when in Roebourne, or even when in Karratha, its only a quick half hour drive!" - Ivy Chen https://g.page/Ganalili?gm

08.01.2022 Ganalili Centre is an impressive revival of the old Victoria Hotel building. The Victoria Hotel had the first public license to be issued in the North West, granted to Simeon Mller on 1 January 1866. In 1894 an advertisement claimed the Victoria Hotel was the "finest and most commodious Hotel in the North. Spacious balcony, Plunge and Shower Baths, Good Stabling and Attentive Ostlers. Loose boxes for racehorses." Image: Victoria Hotel Roebourne, viewed from Roe Street 2012
07.01.2022 Janaangu - Witchetty Grubs by Lyn Cheedy "I am passionate about our Yindjibarndi Ngurra (Country). Janaangu lives in the hollow of bark and roots of some of the plants. You can find them by looking for the thickest part and tapping for a hollow sound. Many of us Aboriginal people call Janaangu a delicacy. I also think of this painting being about the beginning of all life - how everything is curled up before it sprouts or gets born and grows."
07.01.2022 What an inspiring first day of photography skills workshop we had with @rebecca.dagnall @juluwarlu @spinifexhillartists & @bighart_online... From understanding ...camera settings to playing with lights for studio portraits, our six participants smashed it out of the park. Heres a portrait of the two Sams rocking their Juluwarlu Yindjabarni merch. Shoutouts to @formwa for organising the workshops and bringing us up the the Pilbara. Were also lucky to be working with great gear from @canonaustralia @elinchrom_ltd & @teamprotog . . . . . . #indigenousart #indigenousphotography #skillsdevelopment #canon #elinchrom #protog #indigenouslivesmatter #portraitphotography #instaphoto #photog #firstnationsphotography #yindjibarndi #pilbara #westernaustralia

05.01.2022 Pilbara Sunset By Tenellia Lockyer "As a young painter I am exploring the stories I can tell and as a artist in this painting Our Old People maintained the ecology and well-being of everything by carrying out sacred thalu (Increase) generation rituals at specific thalu sites in our country. In this work, I am imagining the sunsets that fill the skies through the seasons and the cycle of the year." https://bit.ly/32JTXWC
