24.01.2022 We may have had a cooler start to summer but it is beginning to pick up! Due to their slender bodies, greyhounds can be very susceptible to heat stress and heatstroke. So, with temperatures in the high 30s and even over 40 common in SA, it is important to make sure you are looking out for your greyhound and helping them keep cool! https://gapsa.org.au//tips-to-keep-your-greyhound-cool-th/

17.01.2022 **Available for adoption** Hello! I'm Indi, formally known as Indianna Kist during my racing career of 7 starts. My foster carers say that I am a sweet, friendly, and independent little girl and I am one greyhound who is super excited to find my forever home! When I'm not running laps around the backyard or standing in my shell pool, you can find me roaching on my bed with my legs in the air **see pictures for my best examples**! I really love my humans and give great hug...s and kisses, so to make sure you don't miss out on any Indi love, I would prefer that you are only away from the house for part time hours. I do enjoy having my own space though as I need to have somewhere to show off my roaching talent! I have enjoyed my time living as an only dog in foster (*more attention and love for me!*) so I would be more than happy to continue this into my adoption home. I am also happy to live with a male greyhound though! I would prefer not to have to share the spotlight with any other pets, like cats, poultry, or pocket pets and I would also prefer to live in a home with older children (12+). The vet recently told me that I have a thyroid deficiency but not to worry, it's very easily managed through ongoing medication - if you would like more information, contact GAP. My perfect day would consist of going for a walk (I'm great on lead!), doing zoomies in the back yard, giving you plenty of hugs, breakfast, dinner and of course... TREATS! I hope that you think I am the girl for you, I would make a fantastic addition to your family, so please apply now by heading to the GAP SA website! https://gapsa.org.au/adopt/greyhounds-for-adoption/indi/

16.01.2022 In light of the recent update from the South Australian government, GAP SA would like to take this opportunity to remind all greyhound carers that greyhounds should never be left unattended and tethered outside of a shopping centre, petrol station or any other essential businesses. As per the laws set out by the DCMB, greyhounds must always remain held on lead and under effective control. Tethering your hound risks their safety as they may become tangled, someone may take them, or they may even chew through their lead and take off. If you are leaving your house for essential travel, GAP SA advises you to leave your greyhound at home. For tips on keeping your greyhound entertained during this time, check out our recent blog posts on the GAP SA website! https://gapsa.org.au//entertaining-your-greyhound-during-/

15.01.2022 Are you struggling to find a greyhound available for adoption that suits your family? Did you know that you can also foster to adopt? By choosing to foster before you adopt you can try to find a suitable greyhound on our foster pages. Not only does the greyhound then get to adjust to domestic life in its forever home but you will also receive extra guidance from GAP and be compensated for the time the greyhound is in foster. 13.01.2022 **Available for foster** Hi there. I'm Joey, a very handsome, quiet, and independent boy and I am ready to find the perfect, caring foster or foster to adopt home. I have some specific requirements for my new home, including needing a home with no children, cats, pocket pets, or poultry! I am happy to live as an only dog or with a medium to large female friend. If I have a friend, I am happy to stay at home for full-time hours but if I am an only dog I would prefer to be l...eft for a maximum of part-time hours. I am known to be friendly with people I know but I definitely like to have my space. I will need a safe and comfortable area in the house, that I can call my own, and where I can retreat to when things get a little too much. I may take a little time to warm up to my new humans, but with plenty of patience and an understanding family, I have the potential to become a beautiful pet. If I sound like a good match for you and your family, please enquire now by heading to the website or calling GAP SA on 8243 7124. Alternatively, you can emailed GAP SA at [email protected]. https://gapsa.org.au/foster/greyhounds-for-foster/joey/ See more

13.01.2022 With the warmer weather arriving, GAP SA would like to remind everyone to please take care and keep your greys cool. For most greyhounds, a temperature over 30 degrees will result in difficultly to regulate their body temperatures and they will want to retreat to somewhere cool. Here are some tips to help keep your hounds cool in the hot weather! Avoid exercising (walks, playtime etc.) when the temperature is over 30 degrees Offer a clamshell pool filled with water to lay ...in Make sure they have access to plenty of freshwater Add some ice cubes to their water dish Give your hound some yummy frozen treats Ensure they have plenty of shade access or better yet, air con! 11.01.2022 **Adoption Update** The very gentle and laid back Bruce, who now goes by the name Pharaoh, was successfully fostered and adopted by John and his daughter Jacinta in February 2021. Pharaoh was a very timid and shy boy when he first came to GAP but with guidance, patience and lots of love, he has come a long way with his confidence and his true personality is now starting to shine. We thank John and Jacinta for their dedication and support of Pharaoh throughout his foster period and we wish him well in his now forever home. If you are interested in adopting a greyhound, head to the GAP SA website to view all of our available hounds! https://gapsa.org.au/adopt/greyhounds-for-adoption/

10.01.2022 **Available for adoption** Hi, my name is Jack and I would make a great addition to a quiet home who are looking for a loving companion! My foster carer says I am a gentleman, and I love to spend time with my people, just being near them. I would suit a retired person or couple, or a small family who are at home a lot of the time, but am happy at home on my own for the occasional half or full day. If you were only gone about 3-4 hours at a time that would suit me fine! ... I have been living in foster care as an only dog but wouldn't mind sharing a home with a calm medium to large female doggy friend. I would however prefer to live in a home without any young children, but quiet teenagers who could give me cuddles would be nice! I do well with a daily routine and like to go for car rides. I am a clean, intelligent, well-mannered and respectful boy and am patiently waiting for my forever home. If you would like to meet me please put in an application on the GAP website, or give them a call on 8243 7124! Love, Jack xoxo https://gapsa.org.au/ado/greyhounds-for-adoption/blackjack/ See more

10.01.2022 **Available to foster** HI there everyone, I'm Maine (race name: Mombasa Maine) and I am an outgoing, friendly, confident, and excitable young girl. I am really excited to find a foster home where I can get out and about on walks, can have lots of playtime, and where I am given plenty of guidance on how to become the perfect pet! I am happiest going to live in a home where I am the only dog so that all of your attention is on me! I can stay at home for part-time hours wh...ile you're away for work or other commitments and can live with children over the age of 8 however, I am not suitable to live with cats, poultry, or pocket pets. I am a very playful and outgoing girl so I would love to go to a more active home. I wouldalso love to go to a home where I am given some training to help me settle into pet life and I will also need to work on my spatial awareness. Although I am very friendly and affectionate, I do also like to have my own space in the home which I can use as my safe area. I am really looking forward to finding a foster family, so if that could be you, please enquire now by calling GAP on 8243 7124 or applying on the GAP SA website! https://gapsa.org.au/foster/greyhounds-for-foster/maine/

06.01.2022 Don't forget that the pavement and roads get really hot for your poor greyhounds feet and in severe cases can result in burns. The best time of day to walk your dog in summer is in the early morning or late evening when temperatures have dropped.

05.01.2022 There are a few myths out there about this gorgeous breed, so we thought we would clear up the main ones for you. So listen up, and prepare to learn some surprising things about these athletic yet ultra-cuddly canines! https://gapsa.org.au/blog/4-myths-about-greyhound-adoption/

04.01.2022 **Available for foster** Why hello there! The names Scorp. I am a rather splendid boy looking for a quiet foster-to-adopt home. I would love to go somewhere where you are able to do some additional work with me (with help from GAP of course) to help settle me in and teach me all that is involved with life as a pet! I recently celebrated my 6th birthday so I am eager to find the forever home of my dreams! I would love a home where there are multiple adults around and wo...uld love to have you be at home for the majority of time. I would also like to focus on being the best Scorp I can be, so I would prefer a home with no other pets or children. I do take my time to fully warm up to new people but once I trust you, boy am I affectionate! As I can be a little wary of strangers, I will be best for me to go to a quieter home where I see the same faces every day. I also have a form of Lupus called "SLO". This does require regular medication but is very easily manageable - contact GAP if you would like more information on this condition. GAP are looking for a rather special home for me, so if you have any questions or you would just like to know a bit more about me, please feel free to contact GAP on 8243 7124 and have a chat to my Foster & Adoption Officer! If you think I am the boy for you, head to the GAP SA website to submit an application. https://gapsa.org.au/foster/greyhounds-for-foster/scorp/ See more
