25.01.2022 Hi from GAPS Tutoring. The corona virus continues to bring about great change in ‘life as we know it’. Transitioning from the classroom to home-schooling presents many challenges for parents and carers. Many over the holidays have expressed concerns about the gap in what they feel their child needs and what the overworked teachers are able to offer. To accommodate this current need and help fill these educational gaps I am offering personal online primary school tutoring. My ...name is Caroline, I’m also commonly known as Mrs Page to many students in my local area. I have a Bachelor of Education (Primary) degree and a Diploma in Business. I am a proficient teacher having worked in a variety of local primary schools and have experience in teaching across all primary school year levels (K - 6). As a professional educator I am passionate about facilitating learning, working collaboratively and encouraging students in the discovery of new ways of thinking. If you feel your child may benefit from personal tuition and would like more information on how I can help please send a direct message or email your enquiry to [email protected] Feel free to share my post and spread the word. Many thanks and take care.

22.01.2022 NSW state school Day 1 Term 2. Be easy on yourself today kids (and parents/carers) looking after your mental health far outweighs completing all your schoolwork. Some good calm down strategies in this list.

22.01.2022 Another COVID-19 educational freebie! A FREE for 30 days offer to parents and until 30 June 2020 for teachers. Remote access to Epic’s digital library, over 40,000 books, videos and more - an easy option to keep children reading and learning from home. https://www.getepic.com/

21.01.2022 Touchable Earth is a totally free app that allows kids to learn from other kids around the world. Targeted at children in Years 2-6 there are hundreds of videos of primary aged children around the world sharing aspects of their lives. Short clips that foster tolerance and understanding, peer teaching, in it's true sense. I love how this app normalises diversity by having kids talk about their various experiences with little snapshots of facts. Very cool! https://www.touchable...earth.org/ https://youtu.be/zvoTB9n3tas

20.01.2022 As a primary school Maths tutor I have been asked the same question by a few people lately.. "What ways can parents/carers help their children learn Maths?" There are many opportunities to apply Mathematical concepts to everyday life; at the shops, in the kitchen, at the park in the car using words, numbers, objects, pictures and symbols to help your child in understanding numbers, patterns and problem solving. Today I found an interesting article in ways to boost the learni...ng of Mathematics. I have listed here 11 easy games and activities identified in the article to encourage Maths in early learning: 1. Comparing objects and describing which is longer, shorter, heavier, or holds less. 2. Playing with and describing 2D shapes and 3D objects. 3. Describing where things are positioned, for example, north, outside, behind, opposite. 4. Describing, copying, and extending patterns found in everyday situations. 5. Using time-words to describe points in time, events and routines (including days, months, seasons and celebrations). 6. Comparing and talking about the duration of everyday events and the sequence in which they occur. 7. Saying number names forward in sequence to ten (and eventually to 20 and beyond). 8. Using numbers to describe and compare collections. 9. Using perceptual and conceptual subitising (recognising quantities based on visual patterns), counting and matching to compare the number of items in one collection with another. 10. Showing different ways to make a total (at first with models and small numbers). 11. Matching number names, symbols and quantities up to ten. 14.01.2022 The Benefits of Online Tutoring With the uncertainty going on in the world right now the majority of face-to-face tutoring has been suspended and there has been an increased demand in online tutoring. There’s not much difference between face-to-face and online tutoring. Of course the obvious limitation of not being physically side by side in the same room, however online tutoring is highly individualised and offers the perfect place to facilitate learning in the comf...ort of your own home! There are huge benefits in family flexibility with no travel time, children can be tutored in any location so there is less pressure on the weekly schedule for busy families. At GAPS Tutoring we use the Zoom video platform to facilitate individualised tutoring sessions. Students are able to see and hear their teacher, communicate through talking and typing and together they use the interactive whiteboard to work through structured learning activities. The Zoom video platform is secure and encrypted, allows teachers to share Google documents and images and allows for the recording of sessions. At GAPS Tutoring our online specialist tutoring service offers One on one attention Personalised and unique learning experiences Identifies gaps in learning Supports a range of learning difficulties Builds confidence Improved attitude to learning Improved academic performance I’m so grateful to my clients and loyal friends for supporting my local business thank you For further enquiries send a direct message, email [email protected] or call 0439 676 176. Take care Caroline.

07.01.2022 Hi from GAPS Tutoring. We’ve been busy with the return to school and getting back to normality. Of course it’s lovely to be back with the kids at school and no we’re not quite back to normal, lots of restrictions still apply and we’re finding different ways to do things. It’s been a while between posts so figure it’s time we did a check-in. Our Covid-19 warriors, students and teachers have all been back in the classroom for a few weeks now! From what I see teachers across the... board are doing their best to assess where students are at, monitor their progress and identify gaps that may have emerged. I was recently listening to a podcast on ‘Every Student’ featuring John Hattie. He highlighted the importance of not assuming that in our return to the classroom we will see the majority of students having had a short term drop in learning. Rather some students will have done very well and thrived in the online learning environment. Of course there will be those who for various reasons will have fallen behind and require some form of catch up. Learning is like the building of blocks, first you build the foundations then you build the frame, walls and roof in stages one layer on top of another and each component is inter-connected. It is important that to prioritise, if there are deficiencies in learning these need to be identified and focus given to the big ideas, the most important areas needing attention so, as much as possible the opportunity to catch up is enabled. That is where GAPS Tutoring may be able to help. From the comfort of your own home you can rely on a qualified teacher to help your child fill the gaps by catching up and building on the work they are covering in the classroom. We offer face to face online learning that is personalised and tailored to your child. We act as a private one-on-one teacher by getting to know your child’s learning style and adapting teaching methods accordingly. We strive to improve attitudes to learning with encouragement and praise so students feel less anxious and overwhelmed with school. We build confidence and self-esteem by providing children with the knowledge, skills and resources to be the best learners they can be! At GAPS we offer flexibility to suit busy family schedules. As much as we are juggling classroom and tutoring commitments we endeavour to schedule suitable session times and when things come up we offer easy options to reschedule. For further enquiries send us a private message or email [email protected] Hope you're all well and are taking care Caroline.

04.01.2022 Just as many of us are worried about the Coronavirus and the changes happening day by day, so too are many of our children and teenagers. Our young people just as easily pick up information from what they see going on around them, from the media and their peers. There is lots of practical advice and strategies on offer. Black Dog Institute is one of many offering an array of free resources. If like me, you have high school students there is an upcoming webinar this Friday - N...avigating your teens mental health. If you register you will receive the link to join (and if you miss it, you can replay it later). This is aimed at parents but there's also webinars ideal for teens. https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au//w/upcoming-webinars/ And the second webinar in the Settling the Mind series - Reassuring your children about the unknown is ideal for parents of primary schoolers. This was recorded a few weeks ago so if you're interested here is the youtube link. https://youtu.be/bGKaRfu0Phs Take care.
