12.01.2022 Hello Bukmak! Since I first arrived in Gapuwiyak there have been many beautiful mats brought into the art centre. The local fibre artists create these beautiful pieces of art with naturally sourced materials such as pandanus and natural bush dyes. These are a few of my favourite ones, all available online at www.gapuwiyak.com.au

06.01.2022 Hello Bukmak (everyone)! My name is Sally and I will be spending the next month getting to know the artists of Gapuwiyak Culture and Arts. During this time I will be doing a Facebook take over of this account. I will be sharing with you some of my favourite pieces of art and experiences. To get things started, I would like to share with you these mokuy (spirit figures) carvings which caught my eye the moment I first entered the art centre. I hope you can join me on my journey with Gapuwiyak Culture and Arts.

04.01.2022 A slow and very wet start to the year but we are getting ready to add new artwork to our website.

04.01.2022 Gapuwiyak’s grade 9 & 10 students recently visited the art centre. They got to chat with arts worker and artist Johnny Warrkatja Malibirr as he explained the process of creating illustrations for Little Bird’s Day. Little Bird’s Day is a simple, universal story of a day in the life of Little Bird as she sings the world alive, flies with Cloud, travels with Wind, nestles with Moon and dreams of flying among the stars. Sally Morgan’s beautiful words and Johnny Warrkatja Malibirr’s sensitive artwork combine to make this a beautiful, distinctive publication with global appeal. Johnny infuses his illustrations with his fine-art aesthetic, his traditional motifs and a quirky sense of humour. To order your copy visit www.gapuwiyak.com.au

04.01.2022 Hello Bukmak! I’ve enjoyed the past week looking through all the fibre art pieces in the gallery. So many beautiful colours and creations by the fibre artists of Gapuwiyak. I have been particularly drawn to the neutral tones of these pieces. If you haven’t had a look at the fibre art pieces on Gapuwiyak Culture and Arts website before, make sure you take the time to do so. - Sally

Every song man needs Bilma (clapsticks) to provide the beats for the song and dance. Here they are, showing some new Bilma they have made at the Culture and Arts Centre
