25.01.2022 Its raining...finally in sydney. Yaay The plants needed it so bad! what makes rain smell so nice? There are several scents associated with rainfall that people find pleasing.... One of these odors, called "petrichor," lingers when rain falls after a prolonged dry spell. Petrichor the term was coined in 1964 by two Australian scientists studying the smells of wet weather is derived from a pair of chemical reactions. Some plants secrete oils during dry periods, and when it rains, these oils are released into the air. The second reaction that creates petrichor occurs when chemicals produced by soil-dwelling bacteria known as actinomycetes are released. These aromatic compounds combine to create the pleasant petrichor scent when rain hits the ground. #sydney #weather #rain #rainyday #petrichor #plantslove #rainy #raining #raindrop #rainfall #raingarden #smellofrain #rainisgood #weneedrain #loverainydays #loverain #loverains See more

25.01.2022 Youve probably seen this recognisable Australian native flower, especially if you live near Sydney , but we bet you dont know all of these waratah facts! 1.The waratahs botanical name is telopea speciosissima. Its no surprise this mouthful is regularly passed over for its more common name, but its explanation makes a lot of sense with telopea meaning seen from afar (aptly named considering their size) and speciosissima meaning most beautiful. 2.The name warata...h comes from the Eora Aboriginal people, the original inhabitants of the Sydney area. It means red flowering tree 3.The waratah generally grows to 3 metres in height and although it looks like one flower it is in fact made up of many flowers joined into a head ranging from 6-15cm in diameter. 4.It is possible to grow waratahs at home at your garden but they should be planted 1.5 metres apart in a partially shaded area, and be watered regularly. 5.The majority of waratah flowers are red and pink, with the size and shape varying. There is also a creamy yellow variety known as Wirrimbirra White. 20.01.2022 You can change a hydrangeas color by altering the pH level of the soil. A more alkaline soil will result in pinker blooms, while more acidity will produce blue blooms. To coax your plant to the blue side, add more organic matter to your soil, like egg shells and coffee grounds (though the acidity in used coffee grounds can vary greatly, so you might try a high-acid fertilizer, too). The change wont happen overnight, but eventually you should succeed in manipulating your soils pH level. #hydrangea #hydrangealove #hydrangea #hydrangeaflower #plant #loveflowers #garden #flowerfacts #colorful #beautifulplants #plantsmakespeoplehappy

15.01.2022 1. They Can Brighten A Home in Any Climate. Succulents make such popular houseplants because of their hardiness and ability to grow in a wide variety of climates. In nature, one can find these plants growing in virtually any clime: from seaside cliffs and humid jungles to bone-dry deserts and frigid mountains. In homes, they thrive in room temperature environments. They will not only add green to your living space any time of the year, but they will also bloom in season, the...reby splashing the canvas of of your home with color. 2. They Can Help to Purify the Air. The article Plants Clean Air and Water for Indoor Environments describes NASA research using plants in a BioHome. This research suggests that succulents can remove many volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the air. Plants emit water vapor, and that in turn generates a pumping action that pulls contaminated air down to the roots of the plant. The succulent converts these contaminates to plant food, thereby purifying the air of your home. 3. They Improve the Humidity of Your Home. Because plants release water, they can enhance the humidity of your house. Increased moisture, in turn, can improve common health complaints including: A sore throat, Common colds, Dry cough, Dry, itchy skin Follow us for more @au.garden.r tips, facts and ideas.
