Between 11:30PM and 3:00AM the Townsville storm produced the following lightning numbers across the region shown in the image below. ... 84936 lightning strikes 21799 strikes hit the ground 63137 strikes were inter/intracloud The storm lightning intensity peaked between 1:00AM and 1:30AM with a total lightning flash rate of 28656 (image here) in that half hour period. Over the three and a half hour period a lightning flash density of 82.95 strikes/square km were recorded. and a ground strike density of 21.29 strikes/square kilometre In English that means the ground in the region pictured below was hit by lightning 21.29 times for every square kilometre of land averaged out.
