24.01.2022 IN FLOWER NOW: The November lily (Lillium longifolium) will stand tall at around 70cms or so, carrying spectacular large and divinely fragrant, white trumpet shaped flowers. They prefer full sun to part shade with moist soils and we know that when they are in full bloom - xmas is not far away at all. 22.01.2022 THE STUNNING Mandevilla 'Crimson Fantasy' never lets us down. It is literally always in flower, boasting masses of gorgeous crimson red flowers atop glossy green leaves. They absolutely thrive in containers and require little attention. A slow release fertiliser now and then, deadhead the spent blooms, keep the moisture up and thats it - you will be very, very grateful that you planted one. #mandevilla #crimson #instaflower #plantselection #gardenclinicmembers #choiceplanting #gcc
20.01.2022 Did you know many flowers have both male & female sexual organs? On this hibiscus flower the yellow stamens are male & the red pistils are female! Discover how this works in our latest Branch Out podcast episode https://bit.ly/32fL0o!

18.01.2022 ZINNIAS, with their bright, paintbox colours and simple, daisy faces are one of the most cheerful summer-autumn plants. Sow seed now or plant seedlings 20cm apart to create borders of strong bold colour. Dwarf forms will get 30-40cm while tall hybrids can reach the dizzying heights of 2m. Remove dead flowers to make way for a new flush. https://www.gardenclinic.com.au/how-/plants-i-love-zinnias #summerflowers #Instagarden #instaflower #gardenclinicclub #rossfamilygardening #lovegardening #gcc
17.01.2022 IN FLOWER NOW: Feijoa sellowiana, the Pineapple Guava is a very easy to grow fruit tree/shrub that reaches 3-4m in height. It has lovely silvery-green foliage year round, very pretty (& edible) flowers in spring followed by fragrant and pineapple flavoured fruit in late summer. Feijoa respond well to pruning so consider using as a hedge or screen in a full to part sun position, or as a striking feature plant in a container. #pineappleguava #springflowers #summerfruit #fruittrees #instagarden #gcc

16.01.2022 GREVILLEAS provide the perfect environment for birds and insects. In reality we probably all have an empty spot in the garden to fill and we are very spoiled for choice with over 350 different species to choose from. From ground covers to tall trees and shrubs, there are wonderful variations in both flower and foliage shape and colour to suit your garden. All you need is a sunny spot and well drained soil. Pictured Grevillea is the Grevillea 'Moonlight'. #grevillea #native #australiannativegarden #plantselection #droughttolerant #birdattracting #cutflowers #lovegardening #gardenclinicmembers #joinustoday #gcc

16.01.2022 NOW IS THE BEST TIME to plant Cauliflower. Popping the seedlings in the ground during autumn and early winter, will ensure the curds (flowering heads) will ripen in the cooler weather. Plant them in a full sun position with good drainage and into a deep, compost/manure enriched soil to accommodate their extensive roots. Just think of the delicious (homegrown) Cauliflower gratin you will be enjoying later in the year. Why not try one of the colourful varieties and learn more about how to grow them successfully - https://www.gardenclinic.com.au/how-to-grow-art/cauliflower #cauliflower #homegrown #autumngardening #wintervegies #vegetablegardening #gardenclinichelp #helpline #askus #callus #jointoday
15.01.2022 CAMELLIAS are the shining stars of the sleepy winter garden. We love them for their evergreen foliage, stunning flowers and lack of pest and disease problems. But why not love them for their fragrance too? Not many camellias are perfumed, but take a look and a deep breath at these. Tall- For a tall option try ‘High Fragrance’. Medium-... Medium-height scented beauties include Lutchuensis, ‘Scentuous’ and ‘Koto No Kaori’; Short- Smaller selections include ‘Spring Mist’ and ‘Sweet Emily Kate’. #camellia #camelliaflower #autumn #lovegardening #helpline #australianautumn #wintercoming #gardenclinic #gcc #askus See more
14.01.2022 HANDY TIPS: Have you planted the zucchini yet? Along the east coast we have experienced quite substantial rainfall. Prevent fungal issues developing by spacing seedlings well to improve air circulation. Apply Eco-oil as a preventative and should mildew appear, treat with Eco-fungicide and remove badly affected foliage. 13.01.2022 TIME TO trim back your Spiraea cantoniensis immediately after flowering has finished in spring. Cut back using sterilised tools, cutting the older stems from the base to preserve the 'waterfall' shape. Water well afterwards with added Seasol, sprinkle slow release fertiliser around the base and continue shaping over the summer months. #spiraea #springflowering #springshaping #handyhints #springgardening #gardenclinicclub #gcc
13.01.2022 STUNNINGLY MAGNIFICENT at the moment is the Echium, commonly called Pride of Madeira. It thrives in high temperatures in areas of little rainfall. The elongated spires are prolific, come in pale pink, sky blue, lilac and purple and hum with the sound of happy bees. The soft grey foliage is handsome all year. Look out for Echium candicans ‘Pink’, ‘Blue’, ‘Duxfield Blue’ and ‘Cobalt Towers’. 13.01.2022 HANDY TIP: If you want to beat the dreaded winter grass from taking over your prized lawn, NOW is the time to apply Munns Winter Grass Killer. This product acts as a pre-emergent and post emergent herbicide targeting the roots as seeds germinate. Ensure you follow product directions carefully for greater success. 13.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Graham on receiving his AM earlier this week at Government House. You have dedicated your life to making us all better gardeners and you deserve every thank you from a grateful nation.
11.01.2022 So cute! We love our froggies and we need to protect them! You can help by taking part in FrogID week, which starts today! Get out and search for them in th...eir natural habitat, or your backyard. Build a frog hotel, frogscape your yard, listen for frogs and send us their calls! The data collected will help scientists determine the impact of climate change, drought, and bushfires on the fragile frog population. Use #frogweekoz to take part! Gardening Australia

07.01.2022 HELPLINE QUERY: Hi GC, please tell me what do I fertilise with and how often do I need to feed my Staghorn fern? A: A liquid feed such as Powerfeed is beneficial and is also an immediately available food for your staghorn. It can be diluted to prevent burning and is easy to apply. Feed monthly during the warmer months and every other month during the cool season whilst they are relatively dormant. The odd chopped up banana peel thrown into the centre & tucked in between the shield leaves every now and again will also provide a reliable slow release of nutrients. #staghornfern #staghornfertilising #handytips #askus #gardenclinicclubmembers #gardeningaustralia #helpline
06.01.2022 FIREWHEEL tree - Stenocarpus sinuatus is a spectacular native rainforest tree growing up to 30m in its natural surrounds and to around 10m grown in cultivation. The tree is evergreen with lush, glossy green foliage and over the warmer months carries large bright red flowers with yellow tips that cluster in a 'wheel-like' arrangement. Stenocarpus is magnificent as a shade tree or a screening plant in the garden. #stenocarpussinuatus #firewheeltree #plantselection #askus #australiannative #nativegarden #hardyplants #redflowers #nativetrees
06.01.2022 Order spring bulbs. Try the South African native 'Sparaxis' for warm colours of red, yellow and orange growing above a fan of leaves to about 25cm. Plan for 10 bulbs to cover 30sq cm of pot or garden bed. https://www.gardenclinic.com.au/how-t/in-the-garden-march-1? #sparaxis #autumngardening #gardenclinicclub #autumngardenjobs #askus #helpline #gcc
06.01.2022 HELPLINE QUERY: What is wrong with my Silverbeet? A: This is a common fungal disease known as Cercospora Leaf Spot - (Cercospora beticola). It occurs during warm, wet weather and is easily spread by wind, rain and insects. Remove badly affected foliage. Improve air circulation around plants where possible and spray every 7-10 days with Eco-fungicide, covering both top and undersides of foliage and the surrounding soil. #leafspot #fungaldisease #vegiegarden #askus #gardenclinicmembershelpline #gardenclinicmember #gcc
05.01.2022 CLEOME or the Spider flowers are a perfect choice for the spring/summer garden. Standing around 1.5m in height they make a striking statement carrying exotic, spidery looking large clusters of petals and long stamens in white, pink or lavender above delicate fern-like foliage. They need full sun and grow easily from seed. Plant now! #cleome #summergarden #springgarden #instagarden #gardentips #gardenhelp #askus #gardenclinicclubmembers #gardenclinicclub
03.01.2022 BUGWATCH-BRONZE ORANGE BUG: Just when your poor citrus tree thought it would be safe to put on some new growth, this dreaded pest arrives with its stinky, squirty spray and the threat of potential damage. Use Eco-Oil as a preventative spray, however, if the bugs have already arrived, the 'Yates Natures Way Citrus and Ornamental Spray' will offer effective control. 02.01.2022 BUG WATCH: Keep an eye out for Pumpkin Beetles who may be nibbling away at your leafy perennials. They can cause quite a bit of damage when working in large numbers. The best control method is of course hand removal, however, using yellow sticky traps or spraying fortnightly with Pyrethrum or an Eco-Neem/Eco-oil mix will keep their numbers down. Mulching around the plants may also deter the female from laying eggs in the soil. #pumpkinbeetle #beetlecontrol #autumngardening #handytips #askus #helpline #gardenclinicclubmembers
02.01.2022 "MR LINCOLN' (Hybrid Tea): The first and the best red rose. Shaped like a goblet and one the best of the perfumed reds. Velvet petals. A rose with individual flowers on long stems. 01.01.2022 {DIAMOND MEMBERS} It was great to catch up over a cupper and cupcakes with many of our Diamond Members today at the Clubhouse. We were chatting about the beginnings of the Garden Clinic Club and the various television shows Sandra and I have worked on since 1978 and of course our 40 years at 2GB. We also discussed potting mix qualities, hand sanitation in the garden during COVID and the extreme standards this year compared to previous decades of a more ‘organic existence’. St...range how this virus has changed our behaviour inside and outside the home. Mary from the GCC team did a brilliant job setting up the Clubhouse COVID safe, it all looked very special indeed for a special group of people. Diamond Members receive unlimited classes or workshops, and a special invitation to our meet and greet like we had today. Graham Ross VMM
