24.01.2022 Building a kids’ sandpit - clearing the ground, first level, weed proof matting, second level and just add river sand.

21.01.2022 Plants in the van being transported to their new home in Artarmon.

21.01.2022 One of my favourite public spaces in Sydney. Divided up into a series of rooms bounded by pathways, tree and shrub lines and waterways, it allows for a variety of uses. From picnics to cycling to kids play area to lazy strolling to organised sports, all are catered to through some very clever design. The same principles can be applied at small scale to create more interesting backyards. #gardeniste... #gardendesign #publicspaces See more

20.01.2022 What a stunning plant. Found at my mother’s place in Hervey Bay. A lovely pink against deep tropical green on a leaf about 30-40cm long. My PlantSnap app identifies it as Caladium bicolor or common name Elephant Ear.

19.01.2022 It’s all happening at Vaucluse this morning on a striking Sydney winter’s day.

17.01.2022 It’s Clivia time in Sydney! Commonly known as Natal lily or bush lily this southern African native has found great popularity in Australia. (Although I notice my spell check seems more familiar with an obscure Dark Ages Frankish King than this lovely, versatile flowering plant).... What’s your preference: yellow or orange?

17.01.2022 Well worth an early winter visit and a wonderful source of inspiration. #gardeniste #bluemountains

16.01.2022 A recent job completed

16.01.2022 The client needed a spruce up of their backyard. The plants in the rear garden bed were given a prune and the soil was enriched as it had become hydrophobic. Plantings include pink jasmine and passion fruit to climb the rear wall and purple dentata contrasted with a yellow flowering shrub. A collection of potted plants located in the sunniest corner for winter is balanced by shifting the seating to the opposite side. Finally, a gerni gave the pavers a well needed clean. #AfterAndBefore #BackyardSpruceUp

15.01.2022 Latest job - a difficult tree removal in Vaucluse, from between a frangipani and a fig tree (the edible one), that required positively surgical chainsaw skills.

06.01.2022 Probably the most ubiquitous and characteristic of trees in Sydney’s public spaces. Two species pictured here: Ficus macrophylla (Morton Bay Fig) and Ficus obliqua (Small Leaf Fig) growing side by in Glebe’s Foreshore Parks. #ficus #sydney #gardeniste @ Glebe, New South Wales

02.01.2022 They say cobblers sons are oft the worst shod so I thought I ought to sort out the back garden at home. It’s going to look pretty special when the dwarf lemon and olive get a year or 2 of growth on. The raised aqua pot contains a hot pink rose - can’t wait for that to bloom. A mixture of pots of different sizes looks great in a courtyard or small backyard but you need to balance the eclectic mix with something that brings unity. Unity is everything. In this case it’s achieved by colour and a Mediterranean theme.

01.01.2022 Nothing like some soft green grass to beautify the nature strip fronting our client’s head office, where their customers visit them and form first impressions. Our client, naturally concerned about water restrictions, was delighted when we explained that we are avid recyclers of water. With a few jobs in the Artarmon area we visit to give the lawn a water while it establishes itself. All part of the service.
