25.01.2022 Hot off the packing shed conveyor belt, we’re pretty excited to receive a donation of a batch of Bio Gro new potting mix Jack’s Magic for our horticultural therapy program and hospital gardens. Thank you very much Van Schaik’s Bio Gro for your support, it’s greatly appreciated.
24.01.2022 We recently had the chance to refresh some of our patient outdoor areas at our Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre Mellor Ward. A huge thanks to Bio Gro for their donation of fantastic potting media. The selection of geraniums, bromeliads and succulents from Plantmark will complement the new Martin Kellock Pots and Planters planters.
22.01.2022 It was great to visit our Jessie Mary Vasey Labyrinth this morning to do some more planting of Black Sheoaks. Every winter we do some infill planting to add successional growth to the sheoak forest surrounding the labyrinth. The labyrinth at our Repatriation Hospital is a perfect space for patients and staff that provides opportunities for meditation, reflection and relaxation. Austin Health
22.01.2022 We’re very thankful for the support of Open Gardens Victoria. Funds from their open garden events that everyone from the community attends and supports will help us to develop a new therapeutic garden. This will help to further improve our patient’s experience while they recover in hospital.
19.01.2022 Excited to add a new Triffid metal flower art piece by Tread Sculptures into the gardens at the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre ... it is always nice to add more art pieces into the gardens that inspire creativity, joy and wonder to our hospital gardens.
18.01.2022 Yesterday a new garden art installation appeared at our Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre gardens in The Friends Sensory Garden ... #TheBillyButtonRibbon Inspired by Billy Buttons (Craspedia globosa) the installation brings some fun, interest, a splash of colour and artistic joy to gardens for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy. 17.01.2022 #treesaregoodlisteners ... we recently placed a couple of signs in trees at the Austin Hospital on behalf of the Gratitude Tree and Worry Tree as a gentle prompt for the beginning and end of each work day for staff to stop and acknowledge what we are grateful for and where to leave our work worries (ie not to take them home). There are more signs to be placed around still. Where else shall we place these signs? Yours treefully in fun!
17.01.2022 It’s always nice to stop and appreciate what’s been achieved in the garden, as this drives momentum, but excitingly there’s still plenty more to do! Here’s just a few snapshots of some of the future garden project spaces that are on the They are now happening list thanks to some generous donors - stay tuned! Photo 1 - 3 North Spinal podium... 14.01.2022 This week we also had the chance to refresh the planters in the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre gardens. Previous plantings of succulents haven’t been as successful as we’d hoped, so it’s time to trial some beautiful bromeliads to see how they go. They’re great plants that provide a lush feel. 09.01.2022 It’s always uplifting to read our Austin Health Vitality edition that shares stories of how donors help our organisation to make a difference to those we care for. The Spring edition is beautifully timed to share the story of the support from Amgrow Home Garden which will help us create the Flower Immersion Garden at our Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre. Planning is underway for this garden that will be a flowery delight for all to enjoy.
08.01.2022 We are very excited to have our Tread Sculptures and @robsglassworx bird bath and two pillars installed today at #TheFriendsSensoryGarden. Thanks to the generosity of Rotary Central Melbourne who have been supporting these gardens with annual working bees for the past 15 years - their donation is in honour of one of their valued members Kevin who had seen these gardens develop over those years during the working bees. The three pieces represent the community that we have - Austin Health, Rotary Central Melbourne and the gardens.
07.01.2022 Today our Gardens & Grounds Program patron Jane Edmanson visited the Austin Hospital to see some past projects and hear about future ones. We’re very thankful for her support. It was also a great chance to chat about the Logies success of the Gardening Australia team, of which Jane has been part of for 30 years, and also Costa Georgiadis. Congrats to all! The program and team are fantastic and the exciting thing about these wins is that gardens, gardening and horticulture w...ere celebrated. The resounding strength of this are all the stories of how gardens and gardening positively impacts peoples lives. Naturally, this is something that resonates well with us here with our garden projects. via #tvweeklogies
07.01.2022 Further to our story that we shared in July about Open Gardens Victoria support and donation for a new therapeutic garden at Austin Health’s Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre we were delighted to read their recent news story about this on their website. Thank you very much Open Gardens Victoria. The consumer consultation and design work continues for this new project and we look forward to it’s impending establishment starting soon.
