24.01.2022 Birdlife Australia are promoting a series of simple activities that everyone can do and then share on social media all linked with the concept of #BirdingAtHome. First up - #CuppawiththeBirds: We want you to take some relaxing time out of your day away from the TV and the news, to do a 10 min bird count at home. Share your list of birds using the tag #CuppawiththeBirds Snap a photo of the birds visiting you, or the view as you enjoy your cuppa! Follow us on Twitter (@Urb...anBirdsOz), Instagram (@birdsinbackyards) and our Facebook group (Birds in Backyards (Australia)) to see what great birds people are recording, and don’t forget to tag your friends so you can share a ‘virtual’ cuppa with them too. Stay tuned for other online activities we will have coming up in the coming weeks and don't forget to check out the #BirdingAtHome webpage for more great BirdLife Australia content. We hope you can get involved and enjoy these activities. This is a stressful and uncertain time, but birds can provide joy and give us a great opportunity to connect with the natural world, as it is right on our doorstep. Happy birding The Urban Birds team

10.01.2022 It's cold but the frogs are calling. AUGUST is a key monitoring month for Melbourne Water’s Frog Census. It is one of the 4 key months for Frog Census frog monitoring. From this point on, many of your local frog species will become increasingly vocal. Perhaps you are hearing plenty of night time noise already?... If so, now is a great time to step out the backdoor and collect some recordings on the Frog Census app. Your recordings collected during August allow Melbourne Water to detect the early callers and any seasonal changes in calling diversity over the long term. Melbourne Water also have some great information on ‘How to find and help frogs’, ‘Creating a frog friendly habitat’ and ‘A beginners guide to frog identification’. All this information plus how to download the App can be found here: https://www.melbournewater.com.au//be-citizen-/frog-census
