22.01.2022 Here at Hands and Hearts we honour the Gumbaynggirr people, the traditional owners of the land on which we work and play. Last weekend some of our educators attended The Giingan Experience. This takes place at an important cultural site of the Gumbaynggirr people, within the Orara East State Forest. Over the course of the morning our educators were immersed in Traditional Gumbaynggirr Stories, Gumbaynggirr Language Learning, Cultural Dancing and Artwork. ... As the morning was filled with such special and rich learning experiences of our local custodians. We’d encourage everyone to attend this fabulous experience that runs one weekend a month.

19.01.2022 We had a wonderful week exploring Aboriginal symbols in a variety of different mediums. We referenced them in our bush tucker book during group time, we drew our own interpretations as we had the visuals next to us while using pencils and paints to help create our ‘Rainbow Snake’. We also explored drawing the symbols in salt trays with our fingers as we talked about the many symbols they use.

09.01.2022 Did you know that children have special rights? They include the right to play, the right for children to have a say in things that affect them, the right to a... safe home environment, education and health care plus many more. More than 40 children’s rights are protected in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Today is World Children’s Day, the anniversary of the CRC, when we celebrate children and promote their rights. In 2020 this is particularly important, as COVID-19 has severely affected children, and many of their rights protected in the CRC. There's a company in South Australia that recycles bread tags into wheelchairs and other items like bowls, doorknobs, coasters etc. The Fuji Xerox Centre at 1/26B Isles Drive Coffs Harbour is a local collection point and will send the tags to SA. See the website to find out more and where you can drop your tags off in your local area. What a great initiative!?
