25.01.2022 More from the Economic Development Forum...

25.01.2022 Please share, and encourage skilled teachers to lodge an application. This is an important role for Dhupuma Barker College but more importantly, for the community and families.

24.01.2022 PUBLIC NOTICE 16 March, 2020: The Yothu Yindi Foundation (YYF) would like to take this opportunity to update our friends, supporters and sponsors in relation to COVID-19.... Late last week YYF met with Northern Territory Health officials and Major Events, and we will continue to act on the advice of the Commonwealth and Territory governments, along with advice from our community leaders and local Indigenous health organisations. At this stage, Garma - 31 July - 3 August 2020 will go ahead as planned, and we are pushing on with preparations for this year’s event as we normally would, including putting in place measures to mitigate risk associated with COVID-19. The next fortnight will be an important window of time to help understand what we as a public are dealing with. YYF is continuing to closely monitor the situation as events develop, and we will keep you informed should circumstances change in relation to this year’s event.

23.01.2022 VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED TO HELP STAGE GARMA 2021 Thursday, 25 March, 2021 The Yothu Yindi Foundation is pleased to invite applications from hard-working volunteers to help stage this year’s Garma Festival.... The 21st annual Garma will take place from Friday 30 July Monday 2 August, 2021, at Gulkula, in north-east Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. Volunteers play a vital role in the preparation and delivery of Garma and its many daily activities, and are required to assist with transportation, ticketing and reception, merchandise, campsite infrastructure and operations, site management, security and administration. While the pandemic threat remains, the health and safety of our people and our guests is YYF’s highest priority, and volunteers will also be required to help implement and maintain a number of strict COVID compliance measures around the Garma grounds to help protect those on site. As we seek to limit the number of people travelling to the NT from interstate, priority will be given to local applicants, along with those whose applications were accepted last year and those who have volunteered at Garma before. This a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in large-scale event operations in a unique bush setting at one of Australia’s premier cultural festivals. Those with a willingness to work hard, be a team player, and ‘go the extra mile’ when necessary are encouraged to apply. Volunteers will be required to organise and fund their own travel arrangements to and from Gove, and will be required to arrive on Sunday 25 July, and depart Thursday 5 August. You must also undergo a criminal history check, obtain a clearance to work with children from NT WorkSafe, and be willing to take a COVID test before arriving on site. For more information and to apply, please visit the YYF website and apply now - https://www.yyf.com.au/forms/volunteers/ Applications close on 23 April, 2021.

20.01.2022 Important Announcement: Garma 2020 Cancelled Friday, 20 March, 2020 The Yothu Yindi Foundation (YYF) regrets to inform the public that this year’s Garma Festival has been cancelled due to the global Coronavirus pandemic.... The decision by the YYF board is in line with the latest Government advice, and reflects our fundamental concern for the continued health and wellbeing of Yolngu people and our Arnhem Land communities. Given the uncertainty over how long restrictions will remain in place, rescheduling this year’s event is not an option. For those who have already purchased tickets for Garma 2020, YYF will be offering a full refund, as well as a credit option to roll over your ticket for next year’s festival. We are currently putting in place measures to make this process as easy as possible, and kindly ask for your patience while our team completes this task in the coming days. Further updates will be posted on the YYF and Garma websites, the Garma Facebook page, and the YYF Twitter feed next week. Media Contact: Jason Frenkel 0402 282 251

20.01.2022 Wonderful to share this story and congratulate the Arnhem Land Historical Society for their efforts in preserving what was Arnhem Lands history and, (uncanny right) - surprisingly so - the future of our region. 11.01.2022 A powerful statement from our youth at the 2019 Garma Festival.

11.01.2022 The Yothu Yindi Foundation is pleased to invite submissions from across Australia for a pictorial gallery to be exhibited on the ceremonial grounds at Gulkula (40km's from the township of Nhulunbuy, NE Arnhem Land, Northern Territory) during this year's Garma Festival, 31 July - 3 August. The exhibition, Facing the Nation - Reflections on Indigenous Australia in 2020, seeks to encapsulate the realities of life for Indigenous people in Australia in 2020; who we are as a nation... and where we are headed. Is our nation's direction on par with where it should be? Your entry should inform Australia why or why not? Provide a pictorial example to support your view. As we enter a new decade, this is your chance to speak creatively to a national audience. Your voice is important to us. We want to hear from you, Australian's, and this exhibition will be treated as a message stick from your family to ours. Submissions must be visual - photographic, artistic, illustrative, creative or digital - and if chosen for exhibition, will be re-produced in a large-scale format on the Garma grounds. Yolngu culture is governed by balance, and your work might reflect on positive or negative aspects of how you see modern Australia, or you might want to focus on the future - where we should be, as opposed to our current position. You don't need to shy away from the uncomfortable stuff - racism, disadvantage, and inequality are all a part of the picture too - but importantly, we ask that you to keep your submissions culturally respectful. Your image, illustration, or artwork is required in a high-resolution format. Please provide your name, contact details and a title for your entry along with your submission. Selected works will form part of a larger installation that will be exhibited at this year's event. To submit your entry electronically, please send your artwork in a high-resolution format (at least 5mb) to [email protected] by 15 June. To submit your work in hard copy, please send it to the Yothu Yindi Foundation, PO Box 42119, Casuarina NT 0810.

05.01.2022 SBSW’s has the endorsement of the Yothu Yindi Foundation as we share their vision, and we totally agree with ending homelessness on a national scale. Craig and his team have joined us two years now at Garma, and they’ve not only fit in to our Arnhem Land family, they get about doing the work they do with energy, vigour and respect. FB family, please share this message so we as a community show support to enable more of their essential work. We attest to the impact they’re making now - essentially your support will put a roof over our brothers and sisters heads, young and old, black and white!

05.01.2022 Learn more about the Yothu Yindi Foundations CEO - we’re very proud of Denise’s silent achieving leadership over the past 10 years. A humble character, with a massive work ethic - she speaks with Chris O’Brien about her experience, and why Garma’s business model is so successful.

02.01.2022 Steve Madgwick’s article for The Australian Traveller. Very comprehensive, thorough findings on the festival. Pls share https://www.australiantraveller.com//experiencing-garma-f/

01.01.2022 In 2015 the Garma Festival was "building our future, strengthening our lives". In 2016 we relayed the land as being our backbone. In 2017 we explained the concept of Makarrata and the importance of settling differences. Our most popular Garma theme of 2018 then explored the importance of "Truth Telling" and, more to the point, zero tolerance for blurring lines, and further bending of truths. In 2019 Garma began the dream of finding "Pathways to our future". Themes aside,... our region has always created a leading edge, always wading through challenging narratives but providing a positive course ahead. The movie High Ground must be applauded for its ability to shed light on Australia's past, whether we find it difficult to accept or otherwise. We'd like to acknowledge the substantial efforts of Director Stephen Johnson, and the acting talents of Jacob Junior Nayinggul, Garma Ambassador Jack Gulkula Thompson, Witiyana Marika, Simon Baker and cast and crew for bringing this story to light. Set against the stunning landscapes of 1930's Arnhem Land - this is a challenging but MUST Australian story. Opening in Australian cinemas January 28. https://fb.watch/2TAbR2XlCp/ See more

01.01.2022 In comparison to Sydney, the bush pays 90% more on our shelves, often for lesser quality! Our residents do it tougher, live a more challenging lifestyle....surely government can create a subsidy to provide better healthy lifestyles. The Yothu Yindi Foundation will speak before the public hearings Wednesday of next week. Our submission can be found by googling Parliamentary Inquiry into food pricing and food security in Indigenous communities. https://www.9news.com.au//2d53b9c9-a1ed-4cd0-8e4f-721fb11a
