16.01.2022 PRESS RELEASE Garrangali band close Tarnanthi Festival in exclusive Adelaide show The legendary Garrangali Band from Blue Mud Bay, NE Arnhem Land are on their way to Adelaide to close the Tarnanthi Festival at the Art Gallery of South Australia. Having taken part in the opening of the festival as cultural dancers, the Garrangali members return to Tarnanthi to showcase their full band sound and share their Yolngu culture and heritage. They have been wowing audiences with... their new mix of traditional upbeat rock reggae dance vibes, having become regulars at Garma Festival since 2010 Best Album Garrangali and Best Song Sea Rights at the NT Music Awards. This year they are going to launch their sophomore album Sea Rights full of new music and favourites done in their fresh and upcompromisingly Yolngu style featuring full traditional manikay songlines. If you’ve never seen them, this is one of the big Arnhem Land bands you can’t miss in your lifetime. If you’re already a fan, bring your family and friends and see you at the show! If you’re new to Garrangali band, you can check out their first and award winning self titled album Garrangali streaming on all platforms. Clan leader of the band’s family is Djambawa Marawili, Winner of the 2019 Telstra Art Award who led the historic Federal Court claim that brought about the High Court 2008 Blue Mud Bay decision granting inter-tidal sea rights to traditional owners. The band continues their dedication to Sea Rights and many of the band members, including band leader Mudinymudiny Guyula, are Yirralka Rangers who look after the land and sea around their homeland of Blue Mud Bay. You will find in their music and character a strength born of cultural life, they live where things are still done the same way, following Yolngu law and Yolngu Elders. Garrangali band brings this energy and power to you on Sunday the 26th January at 3pm and invite you to the Art Gallery of South Australia courtyard. The amazing and acclaimed Electric Fields will perform at 4pm. The day kicks off at 1pm with movies in the Gallery, this will be a great family day out.
