25.01.2022 Musical Monday Thoughts: It’s HSC trials today. Mine were so long ago I can barely remember them. I was terrified and thankful of the support I had. We managed to pull off Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody with little to no organisation from me. All I did was play my part and my music teachers did the rest. Pretty lucky to have that support and that is the support I’m trying to give to my students now. So much work and preparation comes to a head in these next few months and for those looking at music as a career it can be the biggest performances in their lives so far. Do you give yourself time between set up and the start of your performance. It can be easy to cull these thing because you think you don’t have enough time, you’ve had a busy day and don’t want to get to the pub early. Karen was a super talented singer, songwriter and d...rummer who, along with her brother Richard Carpenter played in their band The Carpenters. Her skills as a drummer earned admiration from drumming luminaries and peers, but she is best known for her vocal performances. Sadly we lost Karen in 1983 due to heart failure caused by complications from the eating disorder anorexia nervosa. So sad... Here is a performance of the Carpenters with Karen on drums in 1976... 11.01.2022 Musical Monday Thoughts: Can’t get over how nice the crowd was this weekend. Everyone was so polite and appreciative for the live music. What a special community I live in to be able to play at this troubling time. I’ve definitely been apart of some wild nights and it can be pretty tough sitting on my side of the mic when the shit hits the fan. I’ve played enough gigs now I can navigate the craziness of an Aussie night out but I do not envy the young ones coming into the game.
