The industry benefits from good soil types, sub tropical climate, seasonal advantage, minimal pests and diseases, the use of micro-irrigation technology and industry driven development. Produce is predominantly grown in the Carnarvon Horticulture District located on the fertile soils of the Gas...coyne River delta. Around 1,200 hectares of land is currently under cultivation producing a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. While in Carnarvon, Melissa had the opportunity to meet Rosanda Yelash. The Yelash family in Carnarvon supplies Melissa all of their fantastic produce for the well-known restaurant of Young George in Fremantle, and now the Ethos Deli and Dining Room Melissa says, ‘I got to finally meet the Yelash family that supplies me. I got the opportunity to chat to... Rosanda about the vegetables the Yelash family grows, and do a cold room tour of the produce.’ ‘These farmers work so hard to put food on our supermarket shelves, but what about all the vegetables that don’t make it? That’s where I come in. I take all the stuff that the general public thinks it’s not good enough and turn it into something delicious. There is nothing wrong with vegetables and fruit with blemishes, just cut them off,’ says Melissa. 01.01.2022 GASCOYNE FOOD FESTIVAL ~ Chef Lineup ~ Twilight Long Table Dinner Introducing ANNA GARE as our chef and host for the Twilight Long Table Dinner in Carnarvon this Friday (Sold Out). Considered one of Australia’s most loved female celebrity cooks, and with three cookbooks under her belt, Anna has won the hearts of many while hosting and cooking on shows such as Junior Masterchef (Channel 10), The Great Australian Bake Off (Channel 9) and The Best in Australia (Lifestyle Cha...nnel and ABC TV). She also has a highly successful kitchenware range. Anna’s life has always revolved around music and food. She was a member of the internationally acclaimed all-girl rock band the Jam Tarts in the 1980s and ‘90s, at the same time as developing her culinary career in restaurants around Australia. Anna started her own catering company, the highly regarded Deluxe Catering, in Fremantle in the late 1990s. Anna started behind the scenes in TV on ABC TV’s Consuming Passions with Ian Parmenter. She first stepped in front of the camera for a regular live cooking segment on Channel 7’s Perth at Five: combining her natural flair as a performer with her passion for cooking. It was a perfect fit.
