17.01.2022 NOMINEE - NATIONAL INDIGENOUS FASHION AWARDS // We are thrilled to announce we have been nominated for NIFA Awards in the category of ‘Community collaboration’.... An absolute honour to be shortlisted with the many amazing indigenous art centres around the country. Our new collection ‘Saltwater to Freshwater’ includes a range of designs that depict stories from the coastal saltwater to the freshwater creeks, that flow through the stone country. The range includes men's and women's pieces. BABBARRA+PUBLISHER // Babbarra and Publisher have been working together for 10 years. In 2018 we began collaborating on a 100% Australian made clothing range. We have worked to ensure the licencing agreement between Bábbarra and Publisher enables more income for local artists via design fees. The 'Saltwater to freshwater' is currently being produced and will be released soon. The relationship we share with Publisher has allowed us to reach new customers through ready-made clothing and share our stories with an ever expanding audience. THE CLOTHING // The range features simple classic shapes, enabling the bold and vibrant designs to have their full impact. Made from natural fibres, all the clothing is produced ethically in Sydney. It has been priced to be sold at both wholesale and retail, enabling Babbarra, Publisher and other retailers to stock the range, increasing sales and increasing funds paid back to community. The awards will be announced via a LIVE broadcast through NITV’s social channels on 5th August. @pubtextiles #bawinanga #babbarramodels #indigenousdesigns #handprintedtextiles #nationalindigenousfashionawards

17.01.2022 Have you ever heard of, been to or lived in Carnarvon? Your State Library is featuring WA regional towns on its Facebook Page. It's an opportunity to share stor...ies, old photos and connect with old friends. Recently featured Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Busselton, Mandurah, Wittenoom and Kalgoorlie... Carnarvon is located 889 kilometres north of Perth, at the mouth of the Gascoyne River. The Shark Bay world heritage area lies to the south of the town and the Ningaloo Reef to the north. The traditional owners of the region are the Inggarda, Baiyunga, Thalanji, Malgana and Thudgarri people. Long before European settlement the area was known as Kuwinywardu meaning "neck of water". Aboriginal people associating with the Carnarvon area today typically associate as being Yamatji. The area around Carnarvon was settled in 1876 by the Browns and the Brockmans, who travelled from York to Carnarvon with 4,000 sheep. Brockman settled on Boolathana Station and Brown established Brickhouse Station. In 1891 the town of was gazetted, named after Henry Herbert the fourth Earl of Carnarvon, a past Secretary of State for the Colonies. Carnarvon became the first port in Western Australia which loaded livestock on board ships for transport to markets. The One Mile Jetty once boasted an animal race the length of the jetty. In 1966 road train transport commenced, ships stopped calling and the jetty fell into disrepair. Carnarvon was also a whaling port. Today thanks to fertile soils around the Gascoyne River, the area grows about 47,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables per year, including a range of tropical produce such as bananas, pawpaw, mangoes, grapes, tomatoes, avocados and beans. Visitor's to Carnarvon can appreciate the town's history on its heritage trail. It includes the Railway Station Museum which houses the Kimberley Steam Train, brought down from Broome in the 1950’s and the last steam train to operate in the North West. The Shearing Hall of Fame celebrates the golden days of the Gascoyne shearing industry in the 1950s. While the One Mile Jetty Interpretive Centre shares Carnarvon stories about whaling, pastoral farming and livestock, Aboriginal culture and the battle between the HMS Sydney II and German HSK Kormoran’s story off the Carnarvon coast in 1941. Enjoy Western Australian stories? We invite you to follow the State Library of WA on Facebook. We're sharing stories and photographs from the Library's wonderful collection every day! 16.01.2022 The Carnarvon One Mile Jetty Museum is open for business after a few weeks break. It is a great place to learn about the history of this small town - small town... but HUGE history. The museum covers aboriginal history with a fabulous dot painting done by one of our local ladies, a most interesting pictorial history of the HMAS Sydney ll and HSK Kormoran battle of 1941, including a 55 minute movie about the rediscovery of the Sydney on 2008. Adults and children take a lot of interest in this movie with a number of very young children visibly moved by the story. There is the Lighthouse Keepers Cottage with artefacts from the turn of the century and the Shearers and Railway Museum that tells the story of wool and the jetty from the time when this area had 1.4 million sheep. If you are visiting Carnarvon, spend a few days here because there is so much to offer and we would love to welcome you to the Heritage Area where the One Mile Jetty Centre is located. The area itself has so much more to see with a boardwalk over the mangroves and descriptive boards about the ecology of the area. The Lock Hospital memorial is just 100 metres up from the museum and there is a complete explanation of this sad and tragic part of Carnarvon's history. We look forward to seeing you when you are here and promise that your time spent at the heritage area and museum will stay in your mind for a long time. See you there See more

15.01.2022 G'day all! I've got a gig in Carnarvon this Friday, at the good ol' Gascoyne Hotel. It used to be my favourite watering hole when I lived in Carnarvon, so it's ...a particular pleasure to be playing there on Friday, between 8pm and 11.30pm. I'll have Tim, a session drummer, on stage with me to help fill out there sound - and, to hopefully seal the deal, I've changed my look to boot! If you come down, you'll see this normally bearded fella clean shaven. Hope to see you down there!

This year was no exception and a rockin' time was had by all. Thanks to the Family Shoveller Band for their song 'Karajarri Man'.
