24.01.2022 Sunday funday. Most GAS FAB business jobs are mild steel fabrication, but some jobs require something different. This time some aluminium welding. When your business runs 6 days a week you often don't have time to find a welder to fix some fuckups. A local Brisbane business reached out to help them fix a cracked hinge on their dump truck. The hinge had been damaged and poorly repaired in the past and had now cracked again. GAS FAB machined a new hinge, cut the old hinge off,... repaired the previous weld attempts, then fabricated a stronger version of the hinge. 23.01.2022 I love the look of #baremetal, much prefer a well finished bare metal surface to a painted piece, but it takes so much more work. There is absolutely #nowheretohide. I had a small job for a @tallowwood_collective to make a custom foot/base frame. This base is finished in clear coat so all the metal finishing and welds are on show. Broke out the Tig to keep the welds small and pretty.
21.01.2022 My favourite material to work with is still mild steel. But some jobs like this outdoor #bbq prep table call for something different. As this table will live out in the elements it's whole life I decided to go with #stainless steel. The table will get a thick wooden top inset to be used as a large choping board. Mesh shelves to hold prepped food/bbq trays/kettle lids/charcoal etc. Adjustable legs to suit wherever it ends up sitting and some flat bar off the side to hold the bbq tools. Just need to passivate the welds (will be a shame to lose those pretty colours, touch up some of the sanding and it'll be ready for the timber top.
