25.01.2022 Doing a tune-up on an ‘04 V8 Ford Explorer and we notice some peculiar marks on a petrol injector. We haul them all out and this was the worst. Another injector had less damage and the other 6 we are in good condition. Never seen this in my career before. Had the capacity to burn the vehicle to the ground, as the petrol pump is still operational when the vehicle is using LPG. I have no idea how it wasn’t leaking yet!

20.01.2022 Sometimes I get so disappointed by the work some other automotive workshops do. Here a couple of examples that were delivered to us this week. First example was a Ford BA Falcon 6 cylinder running factory dedicated LPG. It originally broke down and NRMA roadside service attended. The car was suffering severe backfiring under load and was not drivable. The NRMA organised a tow to a supposedly competent workshop that the driver usually used for servicing the car. The mechanic ...Continue reading

19.01.2022 Owner said his feet were getting cold when he was filling his Ford dedicated LPG S/wagon. This is just being tested with LPG vapour from a 9kg cylinder. Shocks me to think of the volume of liquid LPG that was being discharged from this porous flex filler line!

18.01.2022 Glenn Mordue, just as well you didn't hire a bike while you were there, or the whole island might've been submerged!

15.01.2022 Attention Autogasfitters and Cylinder Retesters. Installing a Sidek Quadvalve into a Sprintgas cylinder plastic subcompartment. Close service tap. Remove fill & service lines. Remove lockoff bobbin & gauge wiring. ... Remove lockoff tube & piston. Discard piston & refit tube., then discharge cylinder contents safely. Remove original Sprintgas multivalve & discard. Remove subcompartment from cylinder. Modify subcompartment as shown in accompanying photographs and refit, sealing to cylinder with silicone sealant. Prepare Quadvalve service line elbow with approved LPG thread sealant and refit elbow to point to the required direction. Install Quadvalve into cylinder & tighten retaining screws. Pressure test cylinder. Remove original 90 or 45 deg fitting from original filler line & replace with straight fitting. Install filler line onto Quadvalve first & tighten fitting. Quadvalve service valve assembly can now be rotated to its final position. If needed, cut & reflare service line, then install to Quadvalve. Install Quadvalve solenoid assembly & splice to original wiring. Any wire splice will need to be outside the subcompartment and vent hose, or enclosed with heat shrink tubing to completely encapsulate the joint. Wiring for the gauge sender doesn't need encapsulation due to its low volts/amps See more

06.01.2022 Customer drops off his car yesterday for repair, a Ford AU6 with a factory dedicated LPG system. He explains that the car is backfiring under load, so I mention that the most common cause of that is ignition system faults. I then ask him how long ago were the spark plugs and ignition leads replaced. He tells me that he just replaced the spark plugs, leads and also the ignition coil. He adds that it didn't solve the problem. I smell a rat and ask "You didn't say they were new ...Continue reading

02.01.2022 So, a while back we had a bloke come in who wanted us to tune his LPG conversion on his 350V8 One Tonner. A 2 second look under the bonnet revealed that it was a lost cause due to the terrible original conversion. So, off came the original restrictive LPG system. He supplied an old 4bbl Holley and we went to work modifying it for LPG-ONLY fuel delivery. We staged the primary throttles to initiate the first 1/8 throttle opening for smooth, progressive take-off and traffic work.... Then all 4 open simultaneously for gobs of grunt. The customer was having trouble talking after his final test drive. Something to do with the wicked grin he couldn't remove from his face. See more
