20.01.2022 FILM DER WOCHE This week, we're changing it up with a Film der Woche suggestion from Chantelle Takos! Based on a true story, Sophie Scholl - The Final Days is a gripping and emotional movie about one of Germany’s anti-Nazi heroines. At just 21 years old, Sophie was part of the White Rose, a peaceful anti-Nazi student resistance group. Sophie was infamously convicted of high treason for distributing anti-war leaflets at the University of Munich. Unwavering in her convictions ...and loyalty, her cross-examination and interrogation by the Gestapo quickly escalates... Freely available on YouTube, this movie provides a captivatingly raw insight into a dark period of German history - well worth the watch!

19.01.2022 This week, recipient of the Continental scholarship Emmy Drew reflects on the differences in dialects she experienced throughout her exchange. 16.01.2022 TIPP DER WOCHE Struggling with separable verbs? Here's Janna's two-step check to identify if a verb is separable! Firstly, if the prefix can function as its own word, especially a preposition, then the verb is separable (z.B. ausgehen, zuhören, ankommen). Secondly, the stress is on the prefix in separable verbs, whereas the stress is on the syllable after the prefix for inseparable verbs (z.B. einkaufen vs. verkaufen). As always, there are some exceptions to these rules, but they serve as fantastic rules of thumb for German learners of all abilities!
