21.01.2022 SITTING AND LOW BACK PAIN. Getting out of a chair can be challenging for people with low back pain. The secret is getting your feet under your body weight or vice versa. A split stance under the chair, if possible, or moving to the front of the chair before getting up will be helpful. Whilst sitting, the spinal pressure, in good posture, can increase to 150%. A person weighing 100kg standing, then sits down, can have a pressure equivalent to a 150kg person. Poor sitting pos...ture can see spinal pressures rise to 200% of normal standing posture. Get your kids to sit up properly. Regular breaks from sitting helps significantly. Moving for 2-3 minutes every half hour can help manage your back. Set a timer so you don't forget. Twisting out of cars and swivel chairs can increase the risk of back pain. Turn in your desk chair or car to face the direction you want to go. Plant both feet and get up straight. Over a month, you could get out of a desk chair or car, hundreds of times. Make sure each time counts.

16.01.2022 Do you wear bifocal or multifocal glasses? These days we have computer literacy across a large range of ages. If you wear multifocals or bifocals, "cocking" the head up to look through the lower part of the lenses leads to tension in the neck and even headaches. Lowering the monitor or using a laptop can help. The ideal posture is when you can see the monitor or screen through the appropriate part of your lenses with your head level. If this is not possible, acquiring a set of lenses that are for computer use only may be your other option.

08.01.2022 Hey peeps, my phone number is active again. I will take the time to thank the Telstra Customer Service people that helped get my service working. The best one was a guy named Yoda. LOL, gotta get something funny from a very drawn out and annoying situation.

08.01.2022 I hope that you are keeping yourself and your family well at this time, and have been using your time to stay local, keeping entertained or even learn a new skill at home. In keeping with the Australian Government Department of Health recommendations, Chiropractors (and other allied health professionals; Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, etc), have been asked to remain OPEN, so that we can continue to support the function and mobility of our patients, and reduce any future stress... on GP and emergency services at this time. Some things will be different: We are making every effort to limit the spread of the Coronavirus at this time. We are sanitising every surface in the reception area including the EFTPOS machine after every visit. With social distancing recommendations in place, we are booking an appointment with gaps between patients to limit the number of people in the clinic at one time, reducing contact, and so proper hygiene can be achieved. The treatment table and any surface touched by patients will be sanitised in the presence of the patient about to receive treatment. In conclusion, we are OPEN for business and observing the best practices possible to flatten the curve.

08.01.2022 To use ICE or HEAT? The question is, "is my pain constant or do I have times where I feel no pain AT ALL?" If your pain is CONSTANT then use COLD. Remember, the 2 C's go together, constant and cold. If not the use of heat shouldn't hurt. A 5 minute shower will not contradict this general rule. I recommend 3 applications of Ice separated by a 10 minute break. The length of time to apply an Ice pack depends on how long it takes to feel numbness. This is typically between 10-2...0 minutes. The sensations a person feels when icing an injury follows the acronym, CABiN. Cold, Aching, Burning and Numbness. Ice should never be applied to an area of skin that is already NUMB!!! Heat has its uses. If you want to speed up the healing or flexibility of an injured area, heat can encourage blood flow, improving healing and flexibility, providing the initial inflammation has subsided. Generally you can't go wrong using ice, so ice away your pains. See more

02.01.2022 What is Sciatica? We will start with what Sciatica is not. It isn't simple low back pain or buttock pain. Sciatica is a condition that involves the Sciatic Nerve, the largest and longest nerve in the body. It usually results from irritation or compression of this nerve. Pain is often felt along the course of the nerve and can reach the foot. True Sciatica is often associated with pins and needles sensations, numbness, or even weakness of the foot or leg muscles. Sharper pain...s are more the rule than deep, dull aching. It is most common in one leg but can be in both legs with certain conditions. Diagnosis is important because there are many causes that need to be considered. Arthritic spurs, disc prolapses, spinal tumours, spinal infections and simple muscle spasms, to name a few, need to be differentiated. A good diagnosis leads to an appropriate treatment. So do you think that you have sciatica?
