25.01.2022 Spent the morning with the great staff and students up at Marist Regional College in Burnie. The College have exciting plans in the VET space, empowering our young leaders to excel in engineering, nursing and everything in between They are embodying the fact that you don't need an arts degree to be successful in Tasmania!

23.01.2022 Defence to review Port of Darwin deal Minister for Defence Peter Dutton has confirmed overnight that the 99-year lease of the Port of Darwin to a Chinese-owned company is being reviewed by Australia's Department of Defence. We can not, and will not compromise on Australia's sovereignty. https://bit.ly/3t80NQV

23.01.2022 My thoughts on Tasmania's border restrictions Tasmania Talks

23.01.2022 There are good teachers. There are great teachers. Then there's Mr Langford and Miss Howard, the grade 5 teachers at Montello Primary School. I had the opportunity to speak to their grade 5 classes today about all things politics and government. I was absolutely blown away by the knowledge and curiosity of these kids. Mr Langford and Miss Howard are the kind of people that deserve every recognition they get (and more!) for the way that they invest in our next generation. Top work

22.01.2022 A great feature in today's The Advocate newspaper highlighting the 10 North-West Coasters who are finalists for the 2021 Tasmanian Young Achiever Awards. Good luck to you all! Read their stories here https://www.theadvocate.com.au//ten-inspirational-coaste/

22.01.2022 We want a fix that is there, every day, for our veterans. I spoke to Tasmania Talks today about the power that the National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide will have on the lives of our veterans and their families. 22.01.2022 Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! As you go about your day, spare a thought for those serving our community at home, and overseas who don't get to spend the day with their loved ones Good on RSL Victoria for going the extra mile in getting presents and cards to ADF personel who are spending their Father's Day fighting COVID-19 in Victoria.

20.01.2022 I unequivocally condemn this. It is offensive, it is wrong and I 100% support the Prime Minister Scott Morrison (ScoMo) in calling for a withdrawal and an apology. https://ab.co/39sQOiT

19.01.2022 To kick off my first week out of quarantine, I dropped in to Geneva Christian College in Latrobe. Principal Rosemary Lincolne and her team have been hard at work, finalising plans for a major upgrade of the school. The Federal Government's contribution of $300,000 towards the project is set to make a big difference to this great school community.

19.01.2022 Had the chance to dial in to Coast FM Community Radio Tasmania from quarantine today. Great to chat to Chris about all things COVID-19, as well as how the Federal Government is going about getting Australia back on its feet. Listen in here

18.01.2022 Great to be joined by my great mate Senator Michaelia Cash in supporting the Go Local First campaign The best part about backing one of our 9,500 small businesses? Not only will the product be outstanding, but by choosing local businesses, you'll be creating Tasmanian jobs.

17.01.2022 For the sake of our veterans, let's get this done. The University of Tasmania has been selected to conduct Tasmania's first study into the needs of our veterans and their families. This study will be comprehensive, spanning veteran wellbeing, support services and access to specialised healthcare. ... When I was elected to office in 2019, one of the first things I did was speak to Minister Darren Chester MP about this need. It is something I have been fighting for day and night and I am proud that we are taking another positive step forward today.

17.01.2022 Queenstown will soon be host to one of the best MTB trails in the world. Tasmania's thriving MTB scene going from strength to strength and I can't wait to see the West Coast become the jewel in our crown. Projects like this one at Mount Owen will bring the added benefits of:... More accommodation bookings Local jobs in hospitality and tourism Longer stays in our region (on average, MTB visitors stay for nearly a week!) West Coast Council

17.01.2022 Today marks 119 since our Australian National Flag was first flown This flag represents everything it means to be Australian. It reminds us that we're all part of one big tribe As part of my job, I get to present Aussie flags to local legends like Chris Philip here from Burnie High. Chris has put in over 40 years at Burnie High, serving our country and community in a truly special way. ... Happy Flag Day!

15.01.2022 Australian Advanced Manufacturing to Make COVID-19 Vaccine Some great news today with the announcement that the COVID-19 vaccine will be produced here in Australia. This means people on the North-West, West Coast and King Island won't have to wait in line with the rest of the world when a vaccine candidate is chosen. ... https://www.abc.net.au//free-coronavirus-vaccine-/12635174

15.01.2022 This morning was my first chance to pay tribute in Parliament to Ordinary Seaman Edward 'Teddy' Sheean after Prime Minister Scott Morrison (ScoMo)'s decision to recommend him for a posthumous Victoria Cross. Fitting recognition for one of Tasmania's finest sons. You can watch it here

15.01.2022 For those that missed it, here's the clip from today's interview with Tasmania Talks. We talk about plans for the new Spirit of Tasmania ships, the IG-ADF report into our special forces in Afghanistan, and a new Monopoly game that features 3 iconic Tasmanian towns. You can tune in below

14.01.2022 Building Australia's defence industry isn't a political issue It's a key to Australia maintaining its sovereignty now, and in the future. I'm proud to be part of a government that backs our local defence manufacturers, like Direct Edge and Penguin Composites here on the North-West Coast.... Melissa Price MP

14.01.2022 Despite being in self-isolation and couped up at one end of the house, I've very much felt the love this Father's Day. I don't get to see my beautiful partner, my young fella or my little angel as much as I'd like to these days, but boy am I proud of all of them. Thanks for the presents and the ripping meal! ... Love Dad

14.01.2022 The latest edition of The Post will hit letterboxes right across Braddon over the next 2 weeks. Don't miss the ANZAC Day feature highlighting great Australians such as Ordinary Seaman Edward 'Teddy' Sheean VC. Keep an eye out for your copy!

13.01.2022 I wanted to take a second this evening to congratulate my young bloke Hamish, who graduated from Marist College last week. We’ve been through a lot together after we lost his mum when he was 8 and to say that i’m proud of him would be the mother of all understatements. Good on ya mate, can’t wait to see what you can do in the coming months and years. Love Dad.

13.01.2022 Fantastic to spend some time at Home Hill in Devonport this week. Home Hill was the family home of Tasmania's only Prime Minister Joseph Lyons, his wife Dame Enid Lyons the first woman elected to Australia’s federal parliament and their 12 children. A big shout out must go to Ann Teesdale (pictured) who does a world of work managing Home Hill. A must recommend visit to anyone heading through Devonport.... You can get more information on Home Hill here https://www.nationaltrust.org.au/places/home-hill/

13.01.2022 Foreign Minister Marise Payne's comments this morning are spot on. Too often poorer countries, some of which are in our region, are targeted with predatory loans and infrastructure projects which they will never be able to pay off. It's a blunt, overt attempt to gain influence and it should be called out, as Minister Payne has rightly done this morning.... https://bit.ly/3teZqjD See more

13.01.2022 If the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it is that Australia must have the sovereign capability to manufacture & store key supplies. Today, Energy Minister Angus Taylor MP has announced a $211 million program to build new fuel storage facilities in Australia, bolstering our capacity by 780 million litres. In times of uncertainty or conflict, Australia will now be able to rely upon its own refineries and stockpiles to see us through. A sensible, strategic policy move... that I fully support https://bit.ly/32pCOCE

13.01.2022 Sometimes it takes the whole nation to defend our country Today, I joined fellow veteran Mr Rod Bramich OAM in unveiling the Port Sorell Memorial Honour Board. This board is a fitting tribute to all those that have served in defence of the nation, from volunteer nurses to air observers and camouflage net makers. Lest We Forget.

12.01.2022 Does anyone think I could pull this move off? Minister Richard Colbeck and I dropped into the Devonport Gymnastics Club over the weekend to have a look at their new federally-funded facilities in Spreyton. The job that Leanne Lillico, Tim Mason and the whole team there do is simply outstanding and very deserved of recognition. ... Great to see!

11.01.2022 COVID-19 Vaccine Update The quicker we get back to normality, the better. It's encouraging to see that AstraZeneca is so confident in its vaccine, that it will begin production in Australia from next week. ... While Stage 3 testing of this vaccine is still being finalised, I commend the forward thinking in building up a supply so that if and when the times comes Australians will be first in line. https://www.theaustralian.com.au//bf08e3084d3d95c95b766fc4

10.01.2022 headspace Devonport is now fully operational I'd like to take a second to congratulate Clare, Bec and Ashley here who advocate for the mental health of our young leaders every single day. It was fantastic to join them in opening the facility today and I'm looking forward to a seeing a Burnie satellite service open early in 2021.

10.01.2022 I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of North-West stalwart Mr Tony Fletcher overnight. Tony represented the seats of Russell and Murchison over 24 years of continuous service, rising to the position of Leader for the Government in the Legislative Council. He was a champion of North-West industry, showing no hesitation when going into bat for our primary producers.... My deepest sympathies go out to his family and loved ones at this time. Vale Tony

04.01.2022 Howzat! Fantastic to get in the nets last night with the all-Indian team from the Acton Cricket Club & Assistant Minister Jason Wood MP This group have had a great season in the B-grade Burnie Cricket League competition, only just missing out on a premiership. ... In between innings, we had a good chat about what the Australian Government was doing in response to the COVID-19 situation in India, as well as about some of the issues they face as a multicultural community here in Burnie.

04.01.2022 On this beautiful Friday afternoon, I am heartened to hear that Dr Bernadette Boss CSC has been appointed as the new interim National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicide Prevention. The rate of suicide among our Defence Force personnel and veterans is tragic, unacceptable and I will always support initiatives that attempt to remedy this epidemic. I recently spoke in Parliament about my own experiences with suicide. You can watch it here ... *This video contains scenes of parliamentary proceedings some people may find disturbing.
