18.01.2022 BATTERY OR ALTERNATOR NEEDS REPLACING....... One of the worst feelings a driver can experience is the shock of turning the key in your vehicle and not getting your vehicle to start. This is a problem that can quickly cause fear that the very worst case scenario has happened. An expensive engine repair might be one of the biggest fears. When a vehicle wont start, it is usually not the engine that needs to be repaired. The alternator or battery going bad is usually the cause o...f a car that wont start. Here are some quick and easy ways to determine whether it is your battery or alternator that needs to be replaced. Rule out the starter If you are hearing a stuttering when your vehicle is trying to crank over, you may have an issue with your starter. Usually, when your starter is the issue, your vehicle will crank but not start up. However, if you are dealing with a dead alternator or battery, you will only hear a click when you turn your key. Will any of your interior lights turn on If none of your lights on your dashboard, radio, or interior are turning on, chances are that your battery is drained. Jumping your vehicle can usually help get enough of a charge back into your battery to get your vehicle started. Leaving your headlights on or your radio playing while your vehicle is off can drain your battery causing it to not start back up again. However, if your vehicles interior lights are all working you may have a problem with your alternator charging your battery enough while you are driving. Are your lights flickering while you drive A sign that your vehicles alternator might be going bad is flickering lights when you press on the gas or go up a hill. A bad alternator can also cause your vehicle to lose power while you are trying to accelerate or drive up steep hills. If you see your lights or dashboard dim while you use your power windows, turn on your AC, or press on the gas, your alternator might not be giving enough electrical current to your vehicles systems. Once you have jumped your vehicle, head to an mechanical work shop, Make sure that you dont turn off your vehicle in the parking lot. You dont want to get stranded if your vehicle will not start again. Ask one of the technicians to bring out a battery tester. This tester will be able to tell you if your battery is not holding a charge or if your alternator is the issue. Most of the time, these tests are highly accurate.

08.01.2022 ENGINE OVER HEATING DAMAGE..... Extensive damage occurs in an engine that runs in an overheated state for a prolonged period of time. This is the reason almost all vehicles are equipped with a heat gauge or with a sensor that warns the driver if the engine heat is too high. When an engine overheats, the vehicle needs to be turned off immediately to avoid permanent damage. Seals... Seals and gaskets only are designed to withstand the heat generated in the normal operation of an engine. When the engine overheats, the seals begin to melt, dry out or crack -- all of which can cause leaks. Valve stem seals, for instance, crack after an engine overheats. This leads to a variety of oil-related problems, including increased emissions. Performance also may be compromised if oil residue gathers on the spark plugs or around the intake valves. Cracked Head Gasket If the engine gets hot enough, it can crack the head gasket. The heat in the engine causes metal to expand. This puts pressure on the head gasket, which is neatly fitted into place. Eventually, that pressure cracks the gasket. When this happens, water leaks into the cylinders of the engine, which causes damage to other parts. A cracked head gasket is time consuming to repair because the entire cylinder head needs to be removed to access it. Warped Cylinder Head If the engine gets extremely hot or if the heat lasts for a long period of time, it can warp the metal of the cylinder head. This is more common on modern vehicles with aluminum cylinder heads because aluminum warps more easily than the iron used in older-model cars. A warped cylinder no longer properly seals to the block. The head gasket eventually fails in this situation if the problem is not caught and remedied. The warped head alone causes ongoing problems with overheating, and the vehicle may not idle properly Serious Overheating Once an engine gets hot enough for the coolant to boil, a number of events may take place, all of which might mean the end of the engine. If the coolant is boiling in the radiator, it may blow a hose off its clamp, blow a hole in the side of the hose or cause the radiator to explode. Whats worse, in an engine this hot, the pistons might swell. This damages the bore, which means a very expensive engine repair -- if it is repairable at all.

07.01.2022 Symptoms of Bad or Failing Spark Plugs Common signs of faulty spark plugs include slow acceleration, loss of power, poor fuel economy, engine misfires, and difficulty starting the car. Without a spark, there would be no way for fuel to ignite in the combustion chamber. Spark plugs have been a critical component of the internal combustion engine for years. Spark plugs are designed to transmit an electrical signal sent from the ignition coil at a predetermined time to create a ...Continue reading

05.01.2022 What happens when you don t change the oil in your car? The most common issue is that the parts in your engine will become too hot. This can cause the engine to run less efficiently, and as time goes on, it can cause the engine components to warp and wear out. ... Eventually, if the oil is not changed, the entire engine will shut down and have to be replaced.

05.01.2022 Why does my engine coolant keep disappearing? For example, they could start with cracks in the hoses, small holes in the radiator, or issues with the water pump. Coolant leaks can also happen inside your car. ... Overheating can also pose a problem with the head gaskets within the engine, causing coolant to escape through your engines exhaust.

04.01.2022 Which petrol should I use? The numbers are what matters. Standard unleaded petrol is 91. Premium unleaded is both 95 and 98. The ethanol-blended E10 (a mixture of up to 10 per cent ethanol in petrol) is a substitute for 91 in most cars 2005ish or newer. However, it pays to check your user manual. Those numbers 91, 95 and 98 are the so-called octane rating of the fuel. Theyre all about the same in terms of the energy in the fuel. What octane really is, is an index of a ...Continue reading

04.01.2022 Why is it important to change the oil in your car? Over time, dirt can cause corrosion and decrease the life of an engine. ... Routine oil and filter changes help remove particles and sludge and keep engines at peak condition. Improves fuel mileage. Poor engine lubrication can lead to increased fuel consumption, so make sure there is enough clean oil in the engine.

04.01.2022 What Does A Fuel Pump Do? Most modern vehicles that use an internal combustion engine are equipped with a fuel pump. Cars either have electric pumps mounted within the fuel tank, or inline pumps that work more closely toward the engine. By understanding the basic process of the fuel pump, youll have a better understanding of what happens when a fuel pump goes out and how to recognize when its happening. Fuel in your tank is drawn up through a line that heads toward the en...gine. If your fuel pump is electric, its operated by a small motor that draws the fuel sitting in your gas tank up through a line. In older vehicles with mechanical fuel pumps, the pump moves as your camshaft spins and fuel is drawn through a line using suction. Fuel travels through the fuel line and toward the carburetor or the cylinder. Depending on your engine make up, your fuel line will go directly to the cylinder or will have a pit stop elsewhere. In carbureted engines, fuel is injected with air and forms a mixture in the carburetor. Then, the mixture heads toward the cylinder. In a fuel-injected engine, fuel and air dont mix until they reach the cylinder. Air is injected into the fuel to create a mixture. Once that mixture is in the cylinder, your car is engaging a number of other parts to make your car actually run. While in the cylinder, a spark is added to the fuel. Your fuel and air mixture creates another spark. Within your cylinder, the fuel and air mixture is being compressed by the piston, making it more flammable. As the piston moves and the fuel mixture becomes more compressed, the piston fires. Energy released is now powering the crankshaft. Youre officially on the move. That fuel has successfully moved your car further down the road and is being expelled as exhaust after its useful life. That five-step process has dozens of smaller steps in between, but it all starts at the fuel pump. If the fuel youve put into your tank cant make its way to be mixed with air, steps two through five arent happening, and youre not making progress down the road. The process we briefly walked through is kicked off by the fuel pump, but has a number of dependencies in other parts of the vehicle in order to be successful. Timing is everything.

01.01.2022 WHY GET YOUR CAR SERVICED Motor vehicles are so heavily relied upon and often, their purchase represents a significant financial investment. We all want our cars to be reliable and perform well, but if a car service does not take place regularly, it is very difficult for this to be the case. Despite driving a car daily, many people do not have their car serviced regularly. Ultimately this can lead to significant and costly car repairs. There are many good reasons to have your... car serviced regularly and these include: Avoiding engine failure and expensive engine repairs: An oil change is characteristic and the most important part of any car service. If car oil is not regularly changed, sludge can build up and will stop the engine from being sufficiently lubricated. The engine can be thought of as the heart of the car, and if not lubricated, engine failure is likely and repairs are expensive. Being more fuel efficient: Engines that are well tuned ultimately use less fuel and give off reduced emissions. Not only will you save money in the long run, your car will be more environmentally sound. Increasing the life of your engine: The life of your car engine can be increased if it is regularly replaced. As time passes, engine oil loses its effectiveness. Ensuring that engine oil is changed at regular intervals will improve your cars performance and contribute to engine longevity. Avoiding breakdowns: There are few things more stressful and inconvenient than your car breaking down. A number of breakdowns are avoidable and if oil or other fluids are leaking, attending to their repair can help to prevent breakdown or even car accidents. Ensuring your brakes are functioning effectively: As drivers, we rely quite heavily on our brakes. They are critical for safety and need to perform at the highest of standards. But, brakes do not remain effective without attention and must be not only checked, but regularly adjusted to ensure that they are roadworthy and safe. 8522 2478
