09.01.2022 Gawler Community Retirement Homes Retirement of Bruce Eastick It is rare that anybody would provide 50 years of voluntary work for a community organisation. So it has been for Bruce Eastick, with Gawler Community Retirement Homes (GCRH). Through the 50 years of the organisation, Bruce was a much-respected Chairman for all but two of those years. Stepping down in 2017, while remaining on the Board. Bruce spoke at the organisations recent Anniversary Function and reminisced on ...the early days, that lead to the formation of what would become Gawler & District Aged Cottage Homes and now Gawler Community Retirement Homes. He also announced in his speech that he would be retiring from the Board as of the December Board meeting. He advised this to the Board Members at the AGM in October, requesting that he would like to see out the official Anniversary before finishing at the subsequent Board Meeting. A request that was wholly supported by the Members. His efforts over such a long time have seen the organisation grow from small beginnings to the group supporting nearly 200 retirees in the Gawler Community; and ensuring it will continue to provide future services in the growing sector. It has been very much a labour of love amongst the many roles he has played since coming to Gawler in the early 1950s. GCRH Chairperson Helen Sands made a special presentation to Bruce after his speech to honour what has been amazing dedication to the organisation. It was fitting that he could be acknowledged in this way. Bruce will attend his final Board Meeting this week. See more

06.01.2022 What does 'independent retirement living' mean? Well, retiree/s that can still look after themselves; occasionally with a little support. It is their 'home', they are free to live as they like, but in a village environment. They purchase a home from GCRH and then pay a weekly maintenance fee. They are not required to pay stamp duty or conveyancing fees when the residence is purchased. GCRH then covers costs of council rates, water rates, emergency service levy and building in...surance. We also fully maintain the home and village grounds. The resident/s, has full ownership rights for as long as the want to live there (there is no 'expiry date') In the case of the majority of our units, this includes 18 Tod St, when the resident/s vacate the residence, GCRH will re-licence it and the outgoing resident/s receives a premium refund. The refund is determined by the market value of the unit at the the time and the length of time they have lived there. See more
