16.01.2022 Meet Rusty, our rescued frog. We keep each other company and visitors enjoy seeing his antics. Rusty helps us promote Frog Friendly Gardens. Encouraging frogs is a wonderful way to bring back Adelaide’s lost biodiversity and a worthwhile addition to any garden. Creating a pond or bog garden may encourage native frogs to visit and provides a place for them to reside and breed if the conditions are right. Hearing the call of frogs in an evening is a glorious sound. Get some... tips on how to create frog pond from the fact sheet at: https://landscape.sa.gov.au//urb/frog-friendly-gardens.pdf

06.01.2022 Gawler Environment Centre is looking for a new home, can you help? Our friends at Northern & Yorke Landscape Board are moving at the end of January 2021, which means that we will need to vacate our office at 43 High St, Gawler East. We need to find somewhere that has a small office, foyer display area, and preferably a space where we can conduct workshops for up to 20 people. We can only afford peppercorn rent, or can provide some services in-kind (like enlivening your space... with cool workshops). We are having discussions about various options at the moment, but please hit us up with any suggestions you have! 01.01.2022 Improving Backyard Habitat As part of Council’s ongoing environmental initiatives, Council will be hosting a Plant Give Away Day on 8 April 2021, from 9am to ...3pm at the Gawler Sport and Community Centre. Council welcomes all members of the Gawler community to come by the Gawler Sport and Community Centre (outside the main entrance) to receive some free native plants for their homes. The project looks to increase biodiversity throughout Gawler, and plants have been specially selected to attract native insects and birds, with plants which are well suited to the area. The project is funded by a grant provided by the Australian Government’s Communities Environment Program to improve backyard biodiversity in our Town. We hope all members of the public come out to collect some free, native plants. It is a great initiative for families to help teach children about the importance of using local native species to support our Town’s biodiversity and in doing so positively taking action on climate change abatement says Mayor Karen Redman. The project aligns well with our Biodiversity Management Plan outcomes, and given the Council’s recent declaration of a Climate Emergency, this project will over time help green and cool our neighbourhoods through increased vegetation said Council’s CEO, Henry Inat. Council thanks all residents for helping us achieve these important Town goals and hope you take up the Council’s offer for these free native plantings for planting around your homes. Should community members have any specific enquiries they can email [email protected] or call Customer Service on 8522 9211
