23.01.2022 Sophie goes on the hunt for some of Australia’s most delicate orchids and finds out how citizen science is helping protect them. Orchids are one of the largest plant families on earth with thousands of species, and Australia has some of the rarest ones. Sophie meets orchid expert’s Dr Robert and Rosalie Lawrence for a careful walk to find some orchids in remnant bushland outside of Adelaide.

22.01.2022 Dendrobium Joe and Jill Biden (Den. Jane Denny Den. Anne Rogge) This grex bred and then registered by Singappre Botanic Gardens in 2013.... During a state visit to Singapore in Jul. 2013, Joe Biden and his spouse Jill were presented with an orchid hybrid named Dendrobium Joe and Jill Biden. This grex is vigorous, free-flowering and long-lasting. The inflorecences are around 30 to 50 cm long, with as many as 20 violet-blue flowers each. Biden, who was then the vice president of the United States, was on a two-day state visit to discuss maritime issues and trade in Asia with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Singapore officials. ***This post is not intended to be political, just topical.
