24.01.2022 Today is National Harmony Day Right NOW it seems such a timely message to share. What does it mean......?... Harmony is when people are all getting along together. Harmony is when people are nice to one another. Harmony is the flow of life. Love to hear how you are coming together in your community
23.01.2022 Time to get the butt tight for the next competition
23.01.2022 Being grateful is something that my father taught me very early on in my life and for that I am thankful. In the worst of times and the best of times it has helped to appreciate what is. To learn why gratitude is an essential wellness practice check out my latest blog https://www.greatnesscourses.com//the-benefits-of-gratitude
21.01.2022 A Birthday Wish for YOU Today I turn 55and I love that Here is my wish for you... That you can celebrate WHO you are... Divorce yourself from not feeling enough and celebrate all the imperfections that make you YOU Love the skin your in as it works to serve you everyday Most of all that you can see the gifts that only you can share in the world, as fear will keep you hidden, and some of us just aren't great at hide and seek AND know that I appreciate you
18.01.2022 Are you wondering what steps matter? Well, that was definitely a question that I pondered a few years ago! You hear taking action as needing to be massive, small, or somewhere in between.... During my career, I thought unless I was doing some big step then I was failing The outcome was yes I achieved many things: senior positions/lecturer/high academic results/fitness goals etc YET I was miserable...yep totally the opposite of what people saw Maybe you might have felt the cringe when people say how well you are doing Then I started thinking "What really matters?" Stopping didn't make me feel any better. In fact days of television, socialising, traveling and shopping were initially fun but then quickly faded into a sea of nothingness. So not knowing what matters was proving to be costly. Have you ever taken the time to sit down and explore what truly matters to you? When you know what really matters it is like a "rain, hail, snow or shine" moment to take action. Yep, you get moving, and no matter what gets in your way you keep moving. What really matters to you?.
18.01.2022 Making interviews fun! Have you ever dreaded an interview or spent so much time preparing you forgot to have fun? It can happen when you get so obsessed about what you are saying or doing. That use to be me. Then I learned to stay focused on the end result and really enjoy the people you are with at that moment... Even when only the hairpiece turns up for the interview See more
17.01.2022 Have you been listening to all the reminders to connect with people around you? It is important but what is equally and fundamentally important is connecting to ourselves. Let me explain.... This was my life in my 20's: Work clinically as a nurse... Exercise Work teaching marital arts or aerobics (sneak in a weight workout) Work as a Clinical Facilitator grab a snack (obsessive vegan back then) Quickly see family and friends Cat nap Oops back to Work and S*** need to fit in some study If you are thinking this was spread over a month or a week NOPE this was actually my day. It was how I lived day in and day out. Crazy right!!! Have you ever pushed your body beyond its limits? It may seem obvious to you that the speed list of living above wasn't going to end well. And it didn't. Exhausted from pushing my body couldn't do it anymore! Yes I was forced to pay attention and I didn't like it initially. Back then I remember thinking "common on just push through it". When I stopped to listen and reflect what I discovered was that warning signs were there way before things got so critical. The greatest lesson learnt from that experience was to stay connected to my body and heart (the space of love & truth). The truth is our body beautifully sends messages about what is happening all the time we just need to tune in. I still love to be active, creative and achieve results...that won't change. What has? Everyday I set an intention to love, listen and respect my body. In return I have energy, joy and focus So when I hear "I'm so busy" and "I have no time for me", well let's just say something really obvious jumps out. If you tuned into your body and heart what would you hear? or What would become obvious? Share your thoughts in the comments.......
17.01.2022 MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! My husband Jono and I were reflecting on what a crazy year it has been. For us, we set a goal to spend more time together, and well ...it ended up the exact opposite. I am sure we are not the only ones who have missed time with those they love. Now as the year closes and we prepare for 2021 all we can feel in this moment is grateful. So many challenges yet the support, love, and persistence have seen us through. Our wish for you is that you can see the gifts that came with all the crazy events. And rock on 2021!!!!! See more
16.01.2022 When something is important you will find a way Is that what you have noticed? The short answer is likely a YES If something hasn't been achieved what got in the way?... Could it be the hundred other things running through your mind. Focus, consistency, and clarity are key (with a good dose of fun) Health and exercise have always been important Yet now more than ever it is at the front of your mind WHY? The order of need has changed and it is now in focus PERFECT Now is a great opportunity to build long term practices that will serve you going into the future. Change is more easily done when existing patterns are broken (and they are right now) WHY? Habits contain cues or triggers resulting in an action and then a reward of some kind. When that changes the opportunity comes to lay down a new pattern and build a different practice (one you consciously want to bring in) Exercise is something that is well researched to add to not only our health but our wellbeing. What way can you enjoy doing some exercise, consistently, starting today with a clear intention to build it as a practice Here is an example - Gyms are closed, so I could either sit or gather whatever equipment (totally the option I took) and start a daily routine of doing a workout before commencing work in my home office. What are you building into your day????? If you had a routine of exercise how are you adapting to keep it going?
14.01.2022 Is it possible to tell your life story in six words? I honestly don't know so I am interested to find out This challenge comes from a story (and people aren't sure if it is true) but it goes like this?... Ernest Hemingway was having a drink with some writer friends where they discussed the ideal length of a novel. Hemingway stated he could write one in six words: "For sale: baby shoes, never worn" This told a tragic story. If you had to sum your life up in six words what would it be? Mine is in the photo. Here is the challenge to think about what yours would be and write it in the comments box. No explanation just the six words.
13.01.2022 A dear friend once said they didn't want to take up my time. Now I had to understand why as that is not the outcome you want from friends. It is totally the opposite, is it not? It was at that moment a realization of how often the word busy was used - Ouch! Then came the discovery of what other effects it can have: Impedes creativity ... In the workplace, it drops productivity, increases mistakes, and employees have been shown to have trouble refocusing after interruptions Increases stress Increases desire for self-soothing behaviours Decreased capacity to switch off And that is why I love mastering time! Yes, there is a way off the treadmill and I will be sharing more on this topic soon.
13.01.2022 BEING REAL IS WHERE THE GAINS ARE! For many years I was unhappy with my body. A struggle that I kept private. It seemed crazy as others didn't see any problem. The only thing that told me things were different were my good old friends in the wardrobe AKA my jeans. Others just told me it was part of getting old (WHAT!!!!) After being very athletic when I was young it seemed I was destined to age less than gracefully. ... So I decided to stop moaning and do something about it. And it didn't start with exercise, it started with honesty. What did I really want? and I mean really, not what others told me Why was it important? diving into what my heart was saying How could I achieve success? and in all honesty, checking if I really thought it was possible What was standing in my way? (hint: I looked in the mirror) The kicker was seeing my kids doing some of the same behaviours that I knew got me to this point. Since then I adopted the "don't break the chain" philosophy. It means every day you focus on a habit that you want to create or intensify. Basically set 30 days (same habit) and don't break the chain. This has resulted in one habit, then another, then another. The gains didn't show immediately when I started training 9 months ago. And the pull to give up was strong early in the game -maybe you've experienced that? If that is you it is not your fault! We are being sold to do this and that will happen. Like a fairy godmother will wave her wand. Yet when you break it down, know what motivates you, and understand the effort to excitement ratio it gets easier. As you persist results accumulate and seem like they are speeding up. While I am still working towards my ultimate goal. What I love the most about approaching goals this way is that they tend to unfold and create an energy of their own. All you need to do is focus your choice for that day and watch the chain grow. What methods have worked for you in creating a habit?
13.01.2022 What really is a PB? Just before Christmas I did 65kg hip thrust. This was a PB or commonly known Personal best. And it becomes that when you change your PERCEPTION and BELIEF about something. For me I didn’t belief I could do it. Now it’s done! And that belief is no more. Now I am checking on what else is possible.
12.01.2022 Have you ever responded to someone's inquiry of how you are or perhaps turned down a social engagement citing "I am busy" - me too until I learned to approach things differently. The greatest enemy of good thinking is busyness. John Maxwell Yes, the phrase 'busyness' or as researchers call the 'busy mindset' is commonly used today and it is interesting to understand what drives it. Social researchers have found that it has a significant correlation to self-importance. And n...o we are not all egomaniacs for saying or feeling we are busy, more that it has become ingrained in our lifestyle. I challenge you to be self-observant today and take note of your day-to-day interactions and almost innate replies, just how many times your default is "I am busy"?
09.01.2022 My little furry friend loves Sunday morning walks. However she doesn’t get the term PB yet? Wonder if I can get her under 10 sniffs
08.01.2022 Messages about life come from varied and different places! It is interesting what can catch your attention and the timing of when it occurs. Yesterday I attended my uncle's funeral. At the cemetery, the minister asked for everyone to take a moment and reflect on the memories they had about him. ... As I lowered my head this was written on the plaque below. I couldn't think of a better message right at that moment.
07.01.2022 Love spontaneous learning opportunities! My youngest son Aidan has watch my husband and I plan and schedule for years. As parents we have never pushed them to do it, we have just been quietly confident that if they wanted it the time would come. Well today was that day Lucky I always print extra's... It was wonderful to see how he quickly picked up possible challenges and really scheduled to make the most of the year! Nothing like planning to prepare you for success - WOOHOO! See more
06.01.2022 #Mind Matters As you are entering into a new moment/day/week I would invite you stay an observer of your mind. Notice where it is focused, what that generates and how it aligns with the true YOU We are the CEO of our minds and in saying that I understand it is being met by multiple requests right now, navigating uncertain times and facing new challenges....you're not alone What we can control is where we focus and the meaning we apply. What is the guiding thought you are embracing right now?
04.01.2022 Back when I first started my own business, there was a lot to do and I was constantly in a state of busyness trying to power through my daily to do lists and address the seemingly never-ending demands of work and life. A dear friend once said to me they didn't want to take up my time. Now I had to understand why as that is not the outcome you want from friends. It is totally the opposite, is it not? It was at that moment a realization of how often the word busy was used - O...uch! I had to change my approach and I decided it was time to change my language when I responded to my day-to-day interactions with clients, friends and loved ones as a starting point. Be aware of how often you say 'busy' and think of what else you can say instead? Let me know your go to responses in place of busy by commenting in this post. Notice the feeling it generates when you change your wording - as words have a charge. Do these words shifts your focus as it moves away from a scarcity mindset around your time?

02.01.2022 Ready access to technology I find really creates a super highway and like being on a major road you may have experienced a traffic jam or overwhelm. I know I have at times. So what can you do? Here is an article about reducing the overload or traffic jam
02.01.2022 Are you wondering if creativity really exists or is it just for the select few! Have you ever thought when trying to move forward in business or on a project "All the information is already out there, What have I got to offer? or it's nothing new?" This in its own right shuts down creativity and innovation... Imagine if everyone thought like that? Really what would happen? Forget learning to apply what has been created differently eg like scientists are doing right now and have done over time Forget being able to solve a problem when you don't have the normal resources For example No face to face meant adapting to virtual meet-ups Missing a piece from a board game meant you needed to adapt the rules (you weren't cheating), Or perhaps you've seen someone use duck tape for other than what it was made What examples can you think of? (you may be surprised how many exist) Forget challenging yourself (AKA growing) as it takes creativity to extend beyond your current thinking I think you get the point Creativity, as put forward by William Whitecloud is this: "the ability to make connections that are not normally made" If you take this on then creativity becomes limitless and yes we are all born with it! BOOSTING YOUR CREATIVITY: Start with being super curious Writing down your ideas? (yes start a download) What are the ways it could be applied either differently or in different areas in life? What could be simple ways/metaphors that you could use to help others understand a topic even more? When looking at information could it be possible that something may have been missed or has another application? (Mind mapping is a great way to open this space) Diversity is key - read on different topics, seek out new connections(and not ones that think just like you), deliberately vary your life experiences. It takes different perspectives to generate ideas. The creative mind is a mixture - focus & attention (as Stephen Covey cites) which gives space to generate. However the capacity to MIND WANDER is where connections can be made. PS day dreaming isn't bad What is your creative state? Remember when you played as a child you were about fun. As an adult we tend to start thinking in terms of right/wrong/mistakes. So let's break that habit and go back to loving mistakes and exploration. It's way more fun and produces way more creative ideas. Consider your environment for being creative - some come up with 101 ideas after being at an event while others need time in natureWhere is your creative space? If you read to the end of this post great work! Where would you like to be more creative?(write it in the comments) Live your Greatness
