25.01.2022 Here is a neat Christmas or Gift idea from an ‘out of town’ customer. The customer called from Perth W.A. on Wednesday, requesting a photograph to be emailed and then printed onto canvas, stretched and collected. Apparently his parents are local Toowoomba folk. Instead of handling, freight and cartage from the other side of Australia, Gayles Framing could take care of it for you in two days. Well we did need to let the ink dry. End result to be sent tomorrow.
25.01.2022 This image was painted onto material (as opposed to canvas) from an artist in Asia and brought back to Australia frameless and unstretched. The customer just wanted it re-stretched and will hang it in the daughter’s bedroom. Cute hey?
24.01.2022 Gayle’s Framing has a wide format 44 Epson Stylus Pro 9800 printer which allows us to print on a variety of media including canvas. Attached is a photograph of the Brooklyn Bridge, New York one of our clients wanted printed on canvas. He actually ‘stitched’ several shots together and then he provided us with a USB of the photograph which we printed and stretched on canvas. Result is a stunning panorama ready to hang and remind you of your holiday and happy customer!. Alternatively, clients can just email the photograph or provide a CD.
23.01.2022 What do you do with those smart shopping bags that you got when you last visited Sydney? You might consider this option a recent client opted for. We even incorporated the string of the bag to use as the hanger. What a good idea!
21.01.2022 John Joseph ‘Slim’ Reuter is still alive and well into his late 90’s. As a prisoner of war on the Burma railway he had to endure many horrors that we could not want to possibly imagine. His proud family wished to frame some of the items that he brought back. They include a Burma railway spike, a British pound note, a baton or parade stick with a carved image of a dog purloined from a ‘Yank’ officer, a set of Australian pennies used for two-up (the one standing up is double headed) and lastly his personal rosary beads. What a fabulous story of an Australian digger and hero. Instead of a shadow box we had to use a timber insert to produce depth for the different sized items. It was quite emotional handing over the finished frame to Slim’s daughter.
19.01.2022 We received photos from MAS Accommodation for the refurbishing of their motels. The photos were enlarged, printed and stretched by us into a wonderful collection that will be displayed in every room of their motels. It was a big task to do that many prints in the short time, but all parties are very happy with the outcome
18.01.2022 Robert Waites is a talented artist who uses kangaroo skins as his canvas. With his first piece he requested us to frame it with the tail exposed so that the viewer could have a tactile experience as well. Here are a few examples during the framing process and then the finished product.
16.01.2022 This wedding photo was designed with the bride and groom who were over the moon with the end result. The use of 'burnt orange' as a bottom mat enhanced the colour of the highlights in the sky and skin tones of the married couple. This bottom mat revealed only 4mm of colour but its effect is dramatic and influential without dominating. The couple also insisted on the use of museum glass to give it that special look - surely a photo for that special place in the house....
15.01.2022 If you have a pool, you should have a CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) sign prominently displayed. From the 30th November, 2015 it will be mandatory for all pools. Gayle’s Framing has a pool and we would like to share our simple example. It is framed with shinkolyte (perspex) instead of glass and just a 30mm black Italian moulding that we purchase in bulk. Please call and say you saw this posting on social media for a discounted rate before the 30th November.
11.01.2022 Visit Chantel's website for beautiful pictures of woolsheds and working dogs
11.01.2022 What a beautiful photo - what should the frame look like?
11.01.2022 Cutting mat board is an integral part of modern day framing. We at Gayle’s framing use a computerised mat cutter (CMC). A computerised mat cutter allows you to quickly and professionally cut mat board. There are a number of CMC’s on the market and we currently are very happy with our Valiani CMC. Our Valiani allows us to create designs using clip art or even create your own designs by importing them from other programmes such as Corel Draw. We can create single or multiple ...openings and they can even be oval or circular openings. We can add text and use a pen attachment or cut the text out. A recently completed job incorporated several openings to include photographs, two t-shirts, a cap, scarf and other mementos of a customer’s overseas holiday. Another problem was that all the items had to finish within the dimensions of 1 metre by 1.2 metres. With a CMC we could design it all on the computer with the specifications required. Attached is the completed frame and our CMC. See more
07.01.2022 This is an example of a 'signature' frame. We are able to add text and/or clip art directly onto the matboard. In this instance it was taken to a birthday party where quests were invited to write on the matboard or sign it with best wishes and then present it to the birthday recipient who has a momento of the event. Another example would be a framed photograph of a junior football team. The players sign the surrounding matboard and it is then presented to the coach.
06.01.2022 When a piece of abstract art like the attachment needs to be framed then it is important to create a shadow box. The shadow box raises the glass above the artwork and also gives the framed piece depth. Producing a shadow box is very easy as long as you have a computerised mat cutter. The size and depth can be made to fit any subject. Memorabilia such as military or sporting medals are usually framed with a shadow box.
06.01.2022 The following is an example of framing several decades ago and the effect it has on the artwork. Acid has leached out of the plywood backing and badly stained the unique drawing. MDF has the same effect. Today’s conservation grade backing boards are acid free and so are not harmful to pictures, photographs, documents, cross stitch etc. If you have older framed articles that have any type of wood as a backing, please take a careful look for staining which is a sign of insidious degrading of the article by acid. They will need to be replaced by acid free foamboard.
06.01.2022 This is an example of original art work by talented local artist Alison Anker which was not only stretched around a stretcher bar but also an L bar was added around the outside of the frame. This really enhances the picture by adding the muted grey colour of the L bar
06.01.2022 We have been framing for a professional photographer by the name of Chantel McAlister for a number of years now. Recently we framed twenty three photographs for her upcoming exhibition in Mitchell to be held on the 17th May. So if you can attend go and see her work which has a sheep industry theme or have a look at her web site - just 'Google' "Chantel Renae Photography" . Here are a couple of examples.
05.01.2022 The finished product of the previous post - ready for shipment and a life-long memory.
03.01.2022 Romey attended a swimming training camp earlier this year for athletes identified to have potential and the camps coach’s that were all past and/or current Olympians. Her proud mum Naomi Cooper is a friend of ours and she picked out the matboard colours blue and aqua green and layout for the display. The plaques supplied by Recognition Plus adds a classy touch. The attachment is one happy customer who is very enthusiastic about her swimming. We all hope that she continues to follow that long white line.
02.01.2022 What a good Idea for a gift to someone to show your appreciation for their friendship - ask us about our signature page range - we will frame it and the person will have a memory forever!
01.01.2022 A recently completed job we had which is going into a museum is a tea towel collected during the Second World War. It is important for conservation purposes to use stainless steel pins when stretching fabric or material. The tea towel is basically pinned and stretched onto acid free foam board. Photos here show some of the process and then the completed look ready to be hung. We use the same principles for cross-stitch, tapestries and embroidery to ensure they last as long as the memories.
