25.01.2022 COVID 19 UPDATE: Due to COVID restrictions which have been put in place as of 6pm 31st Jan 21, the Geographe Bay Race Week Committee will be meeting Monday 1 Feb to discuss an action plan. All competitors, sponsors, staff and volunteers will be notified of their decision as soon as possible.

25.01.2022 Farewell Jim Merton.

24.01.2022 Race Week 2020 is a wrap!

22.01.2022 Thank you to all involved in Geographe Bay Raceweek 2021. Our sponsors Doyle Sails - Western Australia- Western Australia (Will Hammond), Seashells Hospitality Group (Paul King), Yacht Grot (Roger and John), Oceanwest Charters (Gary Shea) , Greenskin Wine (Mike Davies and Kim McKee), Port Geographe Marina (Dave Buzzard, Con Keane, Rick Toovey, Karen Lewer, Ric Mackenzie) Robert Oatley Wines , Quality Marine Clothing (Duncan Curnow). A huge thank you to our yachting community... of WA and especially those who entered spent money on their boats, organised their holidays and crew. GBRW 2022 lives! Don't be hard on those who made the decision to call a lockdown. Hey, we've done OK for 10 months. Massive thank you to those entrants who have donated their entry fee to cover the club's costs. We understand that yachties come from different places and please don't feel you have contributed less if you're not in a position to do this. See you in 2022 ... First race 6th Feb .... with any luck a feeder ocean race from Perth. Your GBRW Committee - Barry, Sal, Ken, Nige.

22.01.2022 Thanks to the Esplanade Hotel for hosting our raceweek crew. It was a good chance to wind down after a long day’s sailing. Did you try the Regatta Fizz?

21.01.2022 Hello Yachties In the lead up to GBRW 2021 I am loathe to quote Prince Phillip Duke of Edinburgh in a speech he delivered to the Industrial co-Partnership in Britain's inefficient Industries in 1961. "Gentlemen, I think it's time we pulled our fingers out" ...read that as get you entries in please ... also lady skippers. Will Hammond from Doyle Sails has given the event a huge boost by donating some operating cash -$2000 - for us to go ahead and use for planning. When you see ...him next please say thank you. We can now arrange trophies etc. Ken is chaffing at the bit to send out the Sailing instructions but waiting on final entries to organise fleets etc. I've just ordered some shirts from- http://www.gbyc.com.au//attach/2020/12/16/merchandise1.pdf Thank you Duncan Curnow at Quality Marine Clothing. Gary at https://www.oceanwest.net.au/ Yacht Charters has also donated a prize . Paul King's regular early bird prize has passed the cut-off date of 31st Dec .https://seashells.com.au/ Cheers Nige See more

Thanks to Phil for being the Race Judge, Sue for collating the Race Results and to Bob Mooney for allowing us to use his boat as the Start Boat. One Rustic Bloom... Michelle, you are a treasure. 19.01.2022 Geographe Bay Race Week 2021 has been CANCELLED. The GBRW Committee had an emergency meeting today and were in unanimous agreement that conducting the regatta in 2021 is not viable. Alternative dates during 2021 were considered but deemed to be not practical, due to various factors.... COVID-19 restrictions currently in place and the potential for ongoing restrictions, make event planning in the current environment "beyond challenging. GBRW 2022 will be held Sat 5th to Fri 11th February 2022. The GBRW 2021 Management Committee, along with many Club volunteers, have spent countless hours planning for this year's regatta and are extremely disappointed that the event will not be proceeding. On behalf of the GBRW Committee and the Geographe Bay Yacht Club, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused by this cancellation. We look forward to welcoming you all back for GBRW in February 2022. Barry Brown Director on behalf of GBRW 2021 Management Committee

18.01.2022 Jim played a key role in both boat and sail design in WA. Enjoy this read about his remarkable sailing accomplishments.

16.01.2022 Vale Jim Merton Jim sadly passed away on Monday evening 27 April 2020. A true gentleman, who made such a big difference in so many great ways, and will be sadly missed. Jim’s wonderful contributions to the Geographe Bay Yacht Club will always be remembered. Our thoughts are with Anne and family. From all of us involved with Race Week and GBYC. Here is Jim, with his successful Omega crew at Race Week in February this year.

05.01.2022 Now, that is quality marine clothing! Two lucky winners of Slam jackets. Thanks to Duncan from Quality Marine Clothing. Great to have you on board.

03.01.2022 Vale Sue Olsen, On behalf of Geographe Bay Yacht Club, The GBRW committee and the Geographe Bay Raceweek's past and present competitors it is great sadness we farewell Sue. Beloved wife of our PRO Robin. Sue was always working behind the scenes to make our regattas run smoothly. She ran the results and handicaps quietly and efficiently.... She and Robin would bring their caravan down to Busselton and treated the whole regatta as a getaway. Sue never asked for any recognition and was humble as she accepted a small thank you from the Club. Sue, we miss you already and promise our sailing community will be there for Robin and your family. RIP and fair winds, The members and committee of Geographe Bay Yacht Club
