25.01.2022 Ace is 4 weeks old, he got a little bump to his face- most likely rubbing on an old fence post! And needed to be checked by the vet- all fine just a bit swollen but recovering well and not seeming to be in pain at all. They’ve been stables for 2 nights so we could keep an eye on him and give him his tiny amount of bute, so the pent up energy this morning is needing to be run off hehe

24.01.2022 Smokey doing a lesson for a client this morning, and Snoopy was hanging out in the obstacle course eating grass and exercising himself including doing obstacles on his own then he decided to say hi to Smokey and it was just the cutest

23.01.2022 Ok this is amazing!!

22.01.2022 Clancy, first mounting and then first time moving hindquarters around a little. He did super!! He showed absolutely no worries with the roller and then the saddle (he has had a saddle on many times before so it should have been fine but important for me to make my own assessment). I didn’t film the very first few times I got up on the left and then swung my leg over but it wasn’t much different to this which was maybe the 3rd time swinging my leg over to sit on him. He stayed relaxed and didn’t move but wasn’t frozen which was great.

22.01.2022 Storm after our ride this morning- first time steering off the bit (with the halter there for support when needed). We had a good ride in the arena and then went for a ride at walk around the outside of the obstacle course. He did very well and is ready to get out on some trail rides now!

22.01.2022 Alice working in the long reins today to work on her acceptance of the bit in a different way as she tends to yawn and open her mouth a lot, not pulling as such but not seeming 100% with the bit. Good progress working this way today so hopefully undersaddle again tomorrow we see an improvement as well.

22.01.2022 Cowboy and I had a fun ride this afternoon. I worked on getting him moving off my leg in counter arc, leg yield and spins (slow spins but it’s a start!) And a little canter work in the middle there too. He is still a bit tail swishy but compared to what he used to be like when asked to go and work hard he’s made so much progress and is becoming more willing and softer. Still work to be done but good progress for a young horse with a very spunky attitude!!

22.01.2022 Client’s Standy mare Mia, has been here for a week and a half and was working much more freely in trot today.

22.01.2022 Charm for sale. Guy Fawkes Brumby mare. Price reduced: $1900 Located Meredith, Victoria. 13.1hh approximately 4 years old, Buckskin mare with papers for reg...istration with GFHHA and ABHR. Not broken in, has worn the saddle many times and done lots of groundwork including obstacles. Has had feet trimmed a few times, had the dentist in August. Needs more consistent work before getting on her as can still be a little nervous at times. Has been tied up and walks in the float well. Need to sell as we don’t have the time she needs to be consistent with her as we are busy with other horses. See more

21.01.2022 Softening and loosening the poll, neck and jaw to help the horse to turn loose mentally! This exercise is very feely! It’s probably a little tricky to explain without a video, but essentially we want to rock the head like it’s a helium balloon between our hands! We are not taking a forceful hold as that will generally just create brace! Instead we are feeling the horse and rocking left and right to free up the poll, head, neck and jaw and allow everything to turn loose and ...soften. The head will actually raise up and then the horse will shift its weight off the shoulders and get off the forehand, getting into a posture of balance which then goes hand in hand with the mental balance we are trying to achieve. Angel here was a great demonstration of this, she had been resistant to the halter in the groundwork just before this, but this exercise freed up her body so her mind could turn loose and physical and mental resistance could fall away leaving better physical and mental balance Everything we do needs to be done with the longevity of the horse’s body in mind, that doesn’t mean we won’t have resistance! But we need to work in a way in which we acknowledge resistance and strive to turn that into softness.

21.01.2022 Well we had even more rain this morning! Where is summer?! Dixie was less than impressed being asked to work in the rain! When I caught her it wasn’t raining, then it misted for a bit then it actually rained fairly heavily and we both got soaked haha After some groundwork I got on her but had to get off straight away as it was clear she was not relaxed and happy about the rain so I didn’t want to cause an issue by trying to ride her- she’s a baby still so needs more time getting used to working in all weather conditions!

21.01.2022 You can’t catch me! I’m wild! Oh... maybe you can...ok then I regret running around and not just being caught... or something like that... at least Ghost looks pretty while she acts like a wild uncatchable Brumby! She regressed with her catching after having some time off with the bad weather, she had been being really good to catch but yesterday and today I had to spend a lot of time working on catching as she seems genuinely scared until she eventually stands a...nd let’s me catch her then she seems alright about it! Today I worked with her in multiple sessions throughout the day keeping her in the holding yard and working on catching in there and then also in the roundyard. Hopefully the lessons stick this time.

20.01.2022 Clients Arab mares Angel and Lemmy out on a trail ride this afternoon. Both making huge progress with their dislike of water! And both did super with a fair few cars passing when we were on the road (unusually busy today!) Videos to come if Facebook cooperates as we’ve been having issues uploading these past few days!

20.01.2022 For sale: Buckskin Brumby mare. Charm has trapping papers/certificate to be registered GFHHA, ABHR, and could be registered Buckskin society also. Caught from Guy Fawkes River National Park in February 2018, she is approximately 4.5 years old. 13.1hh approximately. She is a very pretty finer built mare. ... Has not been ridden yet and needs further groundwork before someone gets on- we are simply not finding the time with so many clients horses in training so figured someone else may want a project who isn’t totally wild! Good to catch with a small handful of food, good to handle including saddle, has done lots of obstacles in hand, been trimmed a couple of times and stood nicely untied. Can tie up but still needs work on being approached when tied. Was floated when we got her but hasn’t been in a float for over 12 months- we can do some work on that though before she goes to a new home. Wears a rug happily and has had tarp and flag work. Good to paddock with any combination of mares, geldings and small or big ponies or horses as she is not dominant at all. Located Meredith, Victoria. Asking $2500.

20.01.2022 Angel and Lemmy figuring out puddles are not that bad after all!

20.01.2022 Lemmy also mastered the creek/ditch! Yesterday she said no way was she going over it! Today she started off saying that but again I quietly persisted and waited and then she came over and then got brave and did it several times on the ground and then rode over it without too much hesitation also.

20.01.2022 Ace had to learn about a halter on the weekend so the vet could check him out, and today I put it on him again and did a 2 minute leading lesson- he was starting to get it really quickly! We then went for another walk out in the obstacle course, he’s starting to graze a bit and it’s super cute watching him figure out his long legs! Diamond is looking wonderful also and has been a great mum. I was able to trim her feet today, 2nd time ever for her front feet and 1st time ever for her back feet and she was excellent

20.01.2022 Alice did very well on the obstacles today! She was very calm and brave and tried really well to figure out the harder ones like the water and the bottle and ball pit! Bridges she found easy even the seesaw was no trouble! Video of that to come in a moment.

19.01.2022 First trail ride for young Storm! He was a champion! He led most of the way (cos Smokey is slow and prefers to dawdle at the back ) he learnt about puddles and was taking himself into them after the first two where I had to give a tiny encouragement then he had it mastered. We saw a snake on the side of the road (horses didn’t see it but we did!) We walked and trotted and we had a car pass us as well on the way home and he wasn’t worried by any of that. We had to pass hors...es and cows, and that was all fine too. Gold for Storm today.

18.01.2022 Soda went on her first trail ride this afternoon and did super! She was brave and followed Jack past the puddles when she was unsure of them, went through one puddle really well after that, and bush bashed a little as we explored a new trail. On the road on the way back she had to deal with several cars passing, and then it rained on us! We got back and saddles off just as it suddenly got really heavy! Then the rain stopped and there was a lovely fragmented rainbow

18.01.2022 Ace and Diamond had some training this afternoon. Ace’s first session with the flag and he did great. Diamond’s first time being tied up and first time having the roller on since October 2019 when I first got her (before I realised she was in foal!) She did so well it’s like we did it all yesterday. Very good girl

18.01.2022 Charm is still looking for a new home. 1900 negotiable. Buckskin Brumby from Guy Fawkes River National Park with paper work from Guy Fawkes Heritage Horse Association for Brumby registration. Eligible Buckskin Society also. 13.1hh and a more petite build for a Brumby. ... Approximately 4 years old. Has had the saddle on many times but not yet ridden- a good project for someone with time to work with her consistently. Has had feet trimmed. Teeth done August 2020. Has done lots of groundwork including obstacles. Walks into the float calmly. Good to catch when worked regularly but can regress if left. Can be nervous at times but doing well in regular training. Ties up and paddocks well with any combination of horses. Has been rugged and worn a fly mask. We are continuing to work with her now but offering for sale as a project as we need to reduce numbers due to lack of time. Located Meredith, Vic. 0432352201.

18.01.2022 Warmblood filly Matilda’s 3rd ride. Coming along super!

18.01.2022 Freddie going over the big bridge today, his first ever obstacle session and he did so well! He was really brave and calmly walked over all the bridges and did a few other obstacles also.

17.01.2022 Welcome Clancy, here to be started undersaddle. His owner has done a lot of preparation with him up to the point of first ride so he’s here for the riding part now. We made a start with groundwork today so I could check all the boxes before putting gear on and getting on- hopefully that will happen tomorrow. Clancy is a stock horse or maybe stock horse cross unknown

17.01.2022 Some photos of the weekend, thanks to clinic participant Nik for getting some great photos whilst she watched as her young horse was having a break And some more from Samantha whilst working her horse and watching others as well.

16.01.2022 Angel doing a super job on the obstacle course this morning. Some dodgy one handed riding while videoing in the middle haha but she did so well considering she’s had a big dislike for crossing the creek/ditch!

16.01.2022 Storm trotting along leading the way very happily! Awesome for his first ever trail ride!!

15.01.2022 Morning grooming session for Freddie and George. I feel a bit mean breaking it up but I need to ride Freddie haha Good buddies these two despite the size difference

15.01.2022 Big Freddie the warmblood did awesome on the obstacles for his first time ever! I expected him to be a bit nervous of them and it was really windy too so I went in there not expecting him to do many if any and just have a look and a little try of some but he really surprised me and was super brave! What a good boy!

15.01.2022 Brumby gelding Shadow learning to be relaxed up at the tie up area where there is more comings and goings of other horses, people and vehicles. There were people and horses but they left to go to the arena before I thought to take a photo! But he did really well today dealing with more activity happening around him.

15.01.2022 A bit wobbly footage trying to ride one handed and film and canter and stay on the track dodging rocks and puddles... Forrest did super!! His first solo trail ride He started off a bit hesitant to go on his own down the road but once we got going he was great and was very relaxed and willing to go and change speed when asked, I had to push him for forward a bit which was alright, better than rushing! ... Good boy Forrest

15.01.2022 Thor trotting a little with no horse to follow versus following a horse in the next video, shows where he needs a bit more training but he’s quiet and easy going that’s for sure!

15.01.2022 Extreme Cowboy Racing Victorian State Championships at Benalla. Georgia and Kassidy in Green Horse division, highlights from round 1 and round 2. This mare is so tough to train and ride as she is so opinionated, rather inconsistent but super talented when she wants to do what you ask making progress slowly but no placings this time around. She ain’t nick named Sassy Kassy for no reason

14.01.2022 Brumby Titanium is figuring this riding business out no worries! First trots with a rider on

14.01.2022 Still several spots available book in now for a fun weekend

13.01.2022 The sun came out in the afternoon and it was nice to work these 2 golden mares in the sun! First two photos show Angel, who I started earlier this year, she didn’t like the creek then and she still doesn’t like it now rides straight over the big bridge that goes over the creek but refuses to cross the creek.. eventually she was leading over it and then I was able to ride her over it but it took some convincing! Next photos show Angels sister Lemmy here for some refineme...nt and general development. Her owner said she can be anxious at the tie ups so we worked on that before and after our arena ride. We also worked on being brave in the arena, and general softening to the bridle particularly for back up. So fun to have these two beauties to play with

12.01.2022 Kinder Surprise, our now 3 year old pony who was a surprise foal born at our old property from a client’s rescued mare, had her first saddling today! She got a bit scared of the stirrups bouncing when she trotted but then settled down and was relaxing well- the rain then got heavier and we had to call it quits. You can see we’ve had a lot of rain as there was a river through the roundyard!

11.01.2022 Shadow had a float loading lesson today, he came in pretty willingly and I worked on having him back out slowly and calmly and reload several times. He has been loaded and travelled with dividers closed in the past but not for a few years now- he was free loaded and travelled loose in the float with Ghost to come here as she can’t load with dividers yet. He did well and shouldn’t take long to remember how to load and be shut in to travel.

11.01.2022 Looking back.. about 9 years ago with the first Brumby I trained, VBA Bond, or Bondy as we called him https://youtu.be/_9nrmpqDxYc

10.01.2022 Dixie having some first canters and feeling great!

10.01.2022 Soda first time on the obstacles. Initially leading her up to the tie up area she was a bit nervous as she hasn’t been there yet. Once she relaxed I took her into the obstacle course. Most of them she did with little hesitation. The blue water tray required about 15 minutes of work to get her to the point where she would lead through not just across it but length ways also, without stepping out before the end. ... She did the bottle pit with zero hesitation! This is one of the hardest obstacles for most horses along with the water tray and water box. So I was very pleased with her doing it perfectly first try!

09.01.2022 Thor following another horse.

08.01.2022 Happy to be back out in their paddock after 2 nights and 3 days in the stable! Little Ace’s knocked swollen face is almost back to normal and he seems totally fine and not seeming to be in any pain which is great. Diamond is such a good mare, I’m really enjoying getting to know her better now that I’m spending all this extra time with her! she is so trainable and lovely and it is clear she has passed that good easy going nature onto her son.

08.01.2022 Today’s snorkeling lesson for Baby Fooey

08.01.2022 We are pleased to share that Charm has sold and is on her way to her new home now to become a trail and pack horse alongside another Guy Fawkes Brumby the people already own.

08.01.2022 Dashka is still available and we can now allow people from regional Victoria to come view and try her now that restrictions have eased. She is working better than ever! Looking great and ready to meet her new best friend Get in touch if you’d like more info or to discuss making a time to see her.

08.01.2022 Soda’s first canters! I try to not steer and just let the horse go where they like as long as they go forward when first cantering, even though we have been steering pretty well in trot. Soda is not a super forward horse but has been trotting well off my leg, I needed to slap my own leg to generate some more energy for canter however! She did very well, a few little pigroots on the first few asks but then she was going into the canter much more willingly. Good job Soda girl

07.01.2022 Horses get exposed to all sorts of noises and things here! Stump grubber working in the backyard right by the arena and 3 horses working without concern.

06.01.2022 Willow showing she’s getting better with Holley getting up on the left. She still lifts her head up and the ears go back slightly, this isn’t aggressive at all just showing her slight concern about being mounted! So all good we just take it as valuable information and keep working on building her confidence with it. I’m sure it feels funny for her also having the weight and the saddle pulling a little on her back, something she will get used to soon enough. We don’t use moun...ting blocks in the first mounting and first few rides as it is generally just putting something in the way which creates a hazard for horse and person. We’d much rather be able to step or jump back down if needed and not crash into a mounting block! And also once we are leaning over the saddle fully or even all the way on if the horse needs to move their feet a bit with their head bent around they are going to move around in a small circle/disengaging the hindquarters so then again the mounting block would get in the way! Once a horse is relaxed and confident being mounted then we can introduce a mounting block.

06.01.2022 Alice doing the seesaw for the first time

04.01.2022 Ready to find a new home! 4000 Guy Fawkes Dashka Brumby mare, 14.2hh 12 years old this October. ... Registered Guy Fawkes Heritage Horse Association and Australian Brumby Horse Register. Dashka is forward moving and responsive to aids, her arena work is progressing well, but she excels in the bush on trail rides! She is bold and confident to lead or follow, travels along well on a relaxed loose rein, great on steep hills and varying terrain including through water. Great on obstacles having done lots of groundwork over obstacles and some ridden. Excellent to trim feet, loads and travels well. Can be funny to catch sometimes but when in regular work she gets very good, other times a bit of food does the trick! Great to rug and wash etc. Dashka is not a spooky horse but is sensitive and forward moving so is suitable for a confident rider who likes a horse who will go when asked, and can cope with a horse who is forward rather than lazy! Video on our page of her working in the arena today 19/06/20. Located Meredith, Victoria. PIC 3GPMM096

04.01.2022 Freddie is coming along so well now, he is much more relaxed about life in general and we are riding well on our own in the arena (no other horses for support anymore). He’s working in the bridle but has been getting his tongue over the bit a lot. I normally don’t use nosebands at all as if done up correctly (loose) they are purely aesthetic, or if done up too tight they have significant affects on the horse’s body- restricting movement all the way to the hind end! This has ...been studied and proven in horse dissections! I couldn’t find a noseband as we don’t own any anymore apparently so I tried a halter done up where I could still fit my hand under the noseband but it was just enough extra pressure that Freddie not only stopped trying to put his tongue over the bit but actually then relaxed and worked really well as his mouth then felt more comfortable with his tongue staying under the bit! So I’m hoping a few rides like that and he will learn it’s better to keep his tongue under the bit, and then he should be fine without a noseband or with one purely for looks. It’s easy to use gadgets and gear to cover up a problem but that doesn’t fix it long term, here I am hoping to fix the problem and help him feel more comfortable and understand what the bit means by not having to fight it with his tongue.

03.01.2022 New water obstacle!! We still have 2 spots available for Saturday (tomorrow) morning session for the come and try day, 9am to 12pm $50 per horse. Afternoon session is full.

03.01.2022 Edit: a great home has been found for Bo For sale: Flaxen Chestnut Brumby Gelding. Bobean is 14hh and approximately 11 years old. He has been a pack horse with his previous owner and did a section of the Bicentennial Trail. He has been ridden with previous owner and was sold to us as green broke. He is good to handle on the ground, catch with a small handful of food but then good to handle- excellent at obstacles and loves water! Has had lots of groundwork with us and is go...od to saddle up. He needs an experienced rider to treat him as unbroken and reassess his riding foundations as he has bucked once with previous owner and once with us, we have been on him at walk since but he needs much more time than we currently have to dedicate to him. He is not dominant and can be paddocked with any combination of mares and geldings. He would make a great companion or groundwork partner for someone, or would need an experienced trainer to continue training him if he is to be ridden. Has had his teeth done in August and is up to date with worming. Located Meredith, Vic. Asking $1500.

03.01.2022 Obstacle course at G.C. Natural Horsemanship, Meredith, Victoria. We have an extensive obstacle course with a huge variety of obstacles ranging in difficulty to suit all horses and riders. Train in hand or ridden, for fun or competition practice. All obstacles are made with safety in mind and our course is one of the largest in the country! ... Come along to one of our scheduled Come and Try Days, a clinic or book training time privately or for a group of friends. Club bookings welcome, a great alternative training day for pony clubs and adult rider clubs. Contact us via Facebook, email or phone to book. www.gcnaturalhorsemanship.com Ph: 0432352201 [email protected]

03.01.2022 Alice doing very well with the obstacles and machinery noises.

03.01.2022 FOR SALE- VBA Dunkan Doo is a 13.2hh solidly built 8 year old Brumby gelding. Dunk has recently had a lot of groundwork, walks down the road and is great on obstacles in hand. He was started undersaddle by Georgia in the later part of 2018. Was ridden in a bit briefly when started but ridden bitless since. ... When started he was ridden out in the open as well as the arena and trail rides. Recently he has been doing groundwork only due to riders lack of confidence. He was easy to start and has a trainable nature. He would suit a confident teenager or adult who is an intermediate rider or above as he needs to be pushed into canter and is not suitable for young kids, beginners or nervous riders. This video shows his first ride in over 12 months! He will just get better with more ridden training. He would make a fun trail horse and all rounder. With more work put in he would certainly have potential for pony club/adult riding club disciplines or competing in Extreme Cowboy Racing etc. having started on ridden obstacles today with great success! Asking $3000. Now in training with us for viewing in Meredith, Vic.

02.01.2022 Big Warlander Aragon is working much more relaxed now after an extra day to settle in. Doing much better with the flag on the ground today and then also from up on the fence above him, no worries there at all which was great.

01.01.2022 Willow getting closer to being ready to mount for the first time.

01.01.2022 Lemmy mastered the bridge today! At first she planted her feet and wouldn’t have a bar of it! But some quiet persistent asking and waiting and then she stepped up, backed off, stepped up and then walked over and then she was happy to do it both ways and did it willingly when I rode her over it also!
