The Government has since ceased production of this refrigerant and relaced it with a new ozone friendly gas called 134A. R12 systems cannot be filled any longer and consequently will need Retro Fitting to the enviroment approved 134A refrigerant. ... Retro Fitting is a straight forward conversion of your exsisting system. Certain components of the existing system are removed and replaced with parts that are compatable to the new refrigerant. The compressor needs to oil changes to prevent it from seizing up, the air filters become clogged with dirt and bacteria which, aside from being bad for your health, affects the performance of the entire system and it can even cause it to quit working altogether. Its also very important that the rubber seals need ...to be checked for any leaks or deterioration because when they start to leak gas then your air con system will begin to deteriorate and it will cost you more in fuel. New cars lose approximately 20% of their gas in the first two years. The special refrigerant gas in a car air conditioning system is what creates the cooling this gas is compressed via the compressor which makes its temperature drop and that cold gas is pumped through the system to cool the air, which is then circulated through your car. When this gas has started to leak or evaporate the compressor has to work harder and this puts a bigger load on your cars engine meaning you are using even more fuel. To run in top condition the refrigerant gas in your car air conditioner must be recharged completely within four years from the manufacture date and every two to three years after that. 03.01.2022 Is it true the vehicles air conditioner should be run throughout the whole year? If you are like most drivers you probably only turn your air conditioner on when things heat up. When the weather is warm we all start reaching for those buttons that will give us some quick cool relief. But what you may not realize is that by not using your vehicles air conditioner all year long you may end up costing yourself more money later on! Before you turn away and say that its unreaso...nable to turn the vehicles air conditioner on in winter, or other times of the year when it is not hot out, at least consider the idea. Your air conditioner is made of components that can break down when they are not being used. This means if you use the air conditioner for three months out of the year and the rest of the time it sits, it can be breaking down during those other nine months. By turning your vehicles air conditioner on at least every few weeks, even if it is just for a few minutes, you will keep it working properly. This will help to keep the parts, especially the seals, from becoming dried out. It will also help keep the system from losing refrigerant, which is a reason why after making it all winter you may find it isnt all that cold when you turn it on in the summer. Turning your air conditioner on every few weeks during the cooler months, even for just a few minutes at a time, will help ensure that it keeps working properly during the hotter months, too. In the long run these few minutes spent every few weeks can actually save you money on what you may otherwise spend in air conditioner repairs.
