24.01.2022 After thousands of fin box repairs over the years we’ve dialled it down to a fine art Cal demonstrates the route process - one of many stages.

23.01.2022 A piece of history built in the 70s with only about 20 in production. Shaped by @dick.vanstraalen and timber lamination by Don’s brother @burfordblanks Up there with the trickiest restorations I’ve done with endless surprises around every corner. Working within very fine tolerances the entire job in order to sand back and work on every inch of the board without sanding through the paper thin veneer work or into the new logos. Almost all resin work done in epoxy, new leash plug, application of decals, and redid various home-job repairs. Photos hardly do it justice but stoked with the outcome.

21.01.2022 Christmas and New Years closure dates. We are on top of our workload and powering through as many jobs as possible up until the 23rd, so if you have any last minute damage you’d like to get sorted, we are still taking on jobs on a case-by-case basis

21.01.2022 The unfortunate part about being so busy is we’ve missed so many good before and after shots this was a before shot one of our customers luckily took before dropping their board in. P.s. resin tint colour matching is on a different level

18.01.2022 I’ve just shared a new video on our IGTV relating to this before and after sequence Our customer was presented with 3 options for this repair - Suncure, resin only, or glass reinforcement of the entire tail tip. Being a brand new board our client opted for the glass reinforcement option. The ding is carefully sanded out, filled and re-shaped with clear resin, laminated with 2 layers of 4oz glass, blend sanded, filler coated, and then finish sanded. This is the most minor ...glass repair that we offer but gives insight into the detail we go to, and lack of shortcuts we take in the finish sand process - this same attention to detail is applied during all stages of the repair. We've left out only a couple of our secret finishing techniques but this video shows the core fundamentals of the clean, precise machine work involved in a professional repair. See more

18.01.2022 What a journey this one was! From a repairers point of view, lots of technical aspects, lots of wood grain to preserve and with extremely high customer expectations the stakes were high. Original long box was obliterated and had punctured through to the deck of the board, leaving it structurally weak and badly compressed and twisted (photos don’t do this justice). After cleanly routing out the original box, which was when the first photo was taken, we then made use of an anti-twist apparatus. Everything was then filled and pigmented, re-glassed and new box set. Thanks to @firewiresurfboards @firewire_aus for importing in one of their exclusive brown boxes for us to make this customer extra happy @ Gold Coast Ding Repairs

17.01.2022 We are officially on break! So here’s a pic of the holiday quiver A personal with a set of fins Justin made for me, and a twinny that DVS shaped and I finished. Thanks to everyone who came and picked their boards up over the weekend - we pushed hard and had every single job completed as promised We’ll be back in action Saturday 8th of August at 9am! @ Gold Coast Ding Repairs

16.01.2022 Introducing the shop grom to his shaping idol

12.01.2022 Another before photo sent in by one of our customers An extremely technical rebuild on the structural side of things. Cosmetics are a combination of spray and abstract resin pigment

12.01.2022 Epoxy longboard snap no colour match requested.

10.01.2022 Broken Glass-ons. From a customer perspective: the fin is off, they pick it up and it’s on - simple, right? It can be a bit confusing explaining all the processes involved but here’s a basic breakdown (with a few stages missed) from addressing the large delaminated area underneath the fin, to glassing the fin on itself, with a whooolllle lot of machine and hand sanding in between, as well as measuring, prepping, mixing and fiddling. NO shortcuts. Also no colour matching on this one, just a pigment fill for the rail colour @ Gold Coast Ding Repairs

08.01.2022 Pigment fill vs spray

07.01.2022 Bit of a mishap we took care of for @markmathewssurf when he was borrowing @joelparko foil setup last swell every individual scratch and shatter tediously sanded out, clear filled and re-glassed, including a carbon nose rebuild.

06.01.2022 Just one of many from the first batch of 2021. Clean and smooth reshape, strong and precise glass work, simple and sharp single colour spray with a factory finish. We call it the black and gold standard

02.01.2022 Some colour details on a recent resto. Keeping everything as original as possible @ Gold Coast Ding Repairs
