17.01.2022 The APS is pleased to announce that the 2020 Federal Budget includes a doubling of the number of Medicare-funded psychology sessions for all Australians regardl...ess of location, for an initial 2 year period. 16.01.2022 The coronavirus outbreak has now affected everyone in one way or another. Weve seen people reacting on both ends of the spectrum, from hoarding toilet paper, to the over crowding of Bondi beach. There is confusion in the air. Even the average parent is unsure of whether to send their children to school, or to keep them at home. ... It is understandable that people are confused, and acting either panicky or with complacency its human nature when we are faced with uncertainty. What is important, is that these feelings and behaviours do not became the norm, and that we manage this risk with care. Lets look at some facts: We know that hoarding (or anxiety/fear based behaviours) and overcrowding (disregard or avoidance of risk based behaviours) is very unhelpful. Both extreme behaviours are disproportionate to the response the authorities are asking of us. The average person knows very little about the biochemistry of COVID-19, and its effects on our population. This lack of knowledge can provoke anxiety around our risk to exposure. Anxiety is a normal feeling, and there is nothing wrong with you! To help reduce this anxiety so it does not consume us, we can choose to listen to the medical and scientific experts who are guiding our government here. They are doing their best to confine the virus, and we must listen to them when they say practice good hygiene and social distancing, STOP hoarding, and stop mass gatherings. Social media and the neighbour down the road are not our leaders, and will fuel our anxieties and unhelpful behaviours if we listen to them. Whether you are sending your children to school or not, it is important to carefully explain why there arent many kids at schools, or why they arent going to school. Research shows that being honest with children is the best way to help them cope with serious situations. In uncertain times, staying in the present helps us to keep things proportionate, not over react to how those around us are behaving, think clearly and not fuel our own anxieties, listen to the facts, and CARE for one another. 16.01.2022 A quick reminder for all those Valentine's out there: Love is choice that you must make every day. Outside stressors, relationship squabbles, and conflicting priorities can cause even the most loving couples to grow apart. No matter how stressed or angry you are, it is important to consciously choose love and to respond in ways that support your relationship. Over the years, your feelings will ebb and flow in intensity, but the intentionality of purposeful love can carry you through. Will love be your choice this Valentine's Day?

08.01.2022 Coronavirus (COVID-19) Gold Coast Family Services (GCFS) takes the threat of COVID-19 seriously, in particular the threat to vulnerable individuals, and we continue to monitor the situation closely. We are committed to continuing to provide services to our clients. At this stage we continue to provide face to face services when possible and will continue to monitor advice being issued by the authorities and make changes to our services inline with whats required by law and w...hats in the best interests of our clients and our staff. What happens if you or we cant see you in person? The Federal Government is allowing Health professionals to utilise Telehealth facilities in order to continue providing our services to clients who may not be able to come and see us in person due to COVID 19 related issues. We can utilise telephone or Video Skype technology to have your session. Please contact GCFS on 0433 521 223 to arrange a skype or phone appointment. Can I elect to use Telehealth services instead of face to face sessions? Current advice from the Federal Government is that you or our staff must be in home isolation or quarantine as a result of possible COVID-19 infection to claim medicare rebates for telehealth services. The services are also available under Medicare for people aged over 70, people with chronic diseases, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged over 50, people who are immunocompromised, pregnant people and new parents with babies. Am I safe coming to your centre for my face to face sessions? We maintain a clean environment and our room surfaces are cleaned regularly. We will be practicing social distancing as much as practical. We will ensure no touching and we will ensure were separated as much as possible during the sessions. If you have any concerns please raise them with us. GCFS requires all clients to advise us if you are feeling unwell and/or are displaying symptoms of COVID-19 so we can assess the situation. If you arrive and you are displaying possible symptoms of COVID-19, we may choose to cancel your appointment and advise you to be checked by a medical Professional. If you are advised by your health professional to self isolate and/or be tested for COVID-19, we will then make arrangements with you to reschedule your appointment via Telehealth. Thankyou for you understanding and patience in these uncertain times. L
