09.01.2022 We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the wonderful Occupational Therapists who work in Gold Coast Health. We would also like to highlight a very special service. The Children’s Perioperative team at Gold Coast University Hospital - GCUH piloted and established a part-time Child Life Therapy service in 2016 with the funding support from Gold Coast Hospital Foundation and in 2018, the Greater Charitable Foundation funded a three-year grant to allow the program expans...ion to a full-time service for the next three years. Awaiting surgery and treatment is often a very frightening experience for young children and can be upsetting for parents. The Child Life Therapy program supports young children and their families in their hospital journey by helping counteract fear and distress that is often associated with medical procedures. It includes pre-theatre support, distraction therapy through the use of play, tours and ward orientation, and social emotional support for parents. Special mention to Mary - Assistant Director Occupational Therapy, Paediatrics and the two Child Life Therapists, Jess and Pip. Do you know an awesome OT? Give them a shout out

04.01.2022 We would like to wish Rachael and her friends at the Northern Collegiate at Coombabah State High School all the best for the start of their new school year. Rachael and her friends organised for the teachers, students and their families from Coombabah State High School to donate a collection of wonderful toys and presents for the sick children staying in hospital over Christmas. Rachael knows only too well what it's like to spend special occasions in hospital, spending a lot of her youth in hospital and wanted to brighten the days for other children staying in hospital over Christmas. May this new school year bring inspiring opportunities and life-long memories.

01.01.2022 Please support local sick kids in hospital by purchasing a $2 token from your local Woolworths store. The Woolworths and Children's Hospital Foundation Easter Fundraising Appeal finishes April 6th. Seventeen-year-old Jasper is our Gold Coast ambassador. Jasper began to experience hip pain in May 2019. Results revealed Jasper had a tumour in his pelvis, which was later diagnosed as Ewing Sarcoma. Jasper’s whole world changed suddenly. He had to take most of the year off school..., undergoing surgery to remove the cancer and months of chemotherapy and radiation, before doing further follow up chemotherapy. Jasper returned to his final year at school cancer free. Jasper was about to start work at Woolworths Robina when he was diagnosed and says that the Woolworths team have been very supportive. Jasper met Gold Coast Hospital Foundation mascot Betty Get Better at his local Woolworths at Robina Town Centre. Store Manager Luke donated this HUGE Lindt Bunny to the Foundation Easter raffle. A heartfelt thank you Woolworths and Children's Hospital Foundation.
