21.01.2022 Dame Vera Lynn ~ London-born singer, best known for performing for the troops during the Second World War. Her musical performances and recordings were very popular. By 1939 Vera Lynn was a well known stage and radio performer on the verge of a solo career. It was then she came across the song that was to make her a national icon - We’ll Meet Again written by two young composers ~ Ross Parker and Hughie Charles. Lynn forged a connection, turning a song about absence in any... situation into a classic expression of wartime optimism. In 2009 Vera Lynn became the oldest living artist to have a number one album in England with We’ll Meet Again: The Very Best of Vera Lynn. Eight years later she became the oldest living artist to have an album in the top ten on the British charts with 100, which featured reorchestrations of her classic hits and was released in honour of her 100th birthday. Vera Lynn passed 18 June 2020 at age 103. Photo: Vera Lynn visiting a munitions factory in 1941. {Wikimedia/Imperial War Museum}

21.01.2022 An outstanding night at the Gold Coast Jazz and Blues Club last night. Fabulous 10piece band The Soul Men strutted their stuff in a clean and tight immersion of Rhythm & Blues! Jake & Elwood entered The Lakeside Room with the band in full swing as they meandered amongst a sell out crowd with their distinctive hats and black and white suits. They rocked many of the classics including Proud Mary, Do You Love Me, Respect, Sweet Home Chicago and many more ' ' numbers. Asa...bi Goodman demonstrated her vocal skills with stirring Aretha Franklin numbers and many more standards from the era. She combined beautifully with the 2 front men Greg Hill - Jake and Brent Moetara - Elwood and had the crowd enthralled throughout. A sensational night was had by all, just the dose of music medicine we all needed! Thank you to each and every one of you who came out in support and a huge thank you to the band, cannot wait to have you back again! Home of the Arts
