25.01.2022 The colours you pick for your enamels will make or break it. Paying attention in the design stage saves lots of time and materials. I like to use my hand painted papers to design my palette, then take all of it into Procreate on my iPad Pro and play with a few possibilities. I really have to keep myself on a tight leash, Id happily play for hours just drawing & designing and never making the enamel! Does that happen to you? All in your head? #badhabits
23.01.2022 Another group of enthusiastic first time enamellers at my studio today! I love what they did and the fun we all had. Check out their pieces! Doing it one more time next Sunday!
23.01.2022 Baby swans on the way??? Spring must be near!
21.01.2022 A couple of years ago... #throwbackthursday
21.01.2022 Colour on metal is not just about enamelling. Strong colour or more translucent, trying what works for me today. Having a play with an old favourite this weekend, Aluminium Etching and applying colour pencil in a soft way. Have you tried aluminium yet? Do yourself a favour, check out my Aluminum Etching workshop on @craftcast
21.01.2022 Chika just finished her first chain, I think she’s done an amazing job! Beautiful work!
20.01.2022 Textures and wax are a match made in heaven! These are some images from a previous class.
19.01.2022 I like to separate enamels as they come off a mixed colour stencil, sorted roughly by colour they make an interesting speckled colour that I used whenever I can. Im not a fan of flat colour.
18.01.2022 I designed this bail to be used for this size pendant. I like interchangeable jewellery! One chain, one bail but lots of variety of pendants to suit whatever youre wearing and because half of my wardrobe is black, its a no brainer for me. Double sided as well (of course) I think I prefer the softer darker side, what about you? Brighter?
18.01.2022 One more from a while ago #throwbackthursdays
18.01.2022 Here is my mixed up enamel spills practice. Whenever I mix my colours directly on the metal, a certain amount of spillage is expected. When I first started Enamelling I was told to use the contaminated colours as a counter enamel where nobody would ever see them. How things have changed since I started mixing colours on purpose! The textures and interest they create is super addictive! I have trouble using pure, flat colours now and will often create some other texture on top of them.
16.01.2022 Demo from last Sundays workshop. I did them with my new favourite broken stencil Theyre going to be earrings but I thought they would make cool buttons. What do you think, do people still buy handmade buttons?
16.01.2022 Carved out a few hours to get these made. I’m happy with the colours & textures. I’m thinking to use one or both of them on the cover of my new ebook. Which one do you like best, Orange or Teal background? I decided not to leave the dots to round, they drew too much attention. Back in the kiln and over-firing fixed that and made everything else flow nicely as well. The other one didn’t need any dots I thought, but, I can always change my mind and put them in of course! @ Gold Coast, Queensland
16.01.2022 It was a hive of activity in the studio today, dramas & triumphs! Gentler day tomorrow as we carve a wax ring and get it ready for casting @ Gold Coast Jewellery Studio
15.01.2022 I think youre having a good workshop when people do a little sitting dance when they look at what they made right? This just makes me smile and reminds me why I like teaching!
14.01.2022 Did I show you the rest of my OC organising spree. These all have a name and a number now. Time well spent I think
14.01.2022 First ring, can you believe it? A little adventurous don’t you think? Well done Chika! @ Gold Coast Jewellery Studio
13.01.2022 1.7 grams in wax, I didn’t think it would cast this thin! But it came out so well. All the fine details & textures. Getting ready for the textures & working with wax workshops, come and join us! Link in bio for more details. @ Gold Coast Jewellery Studio
13.01.2022 When stencil cutting gives different results than expected. Now Ive got lots of small interesting shapes to try out!
13.01.2022 Gorgeous chain by @ilovetattooing Danels first solder job! Clever right? @ Gold Coast, Queensland
13.01.2022 What do you do when you dont have the perfect colour for your next enamel? You mix it from what youve got!
12.01.2022 Finishing a few things today, Im happy how these turned out. I inverted the design on the back, and of course they can be worn both ways. One other pair of earrings to go. Im enjoying making these.
12.01.2022 A few more designs from My Tree designs, these came from the gum nuts. I love the versatility of this design. Aluminium this weekend, might be an enamel next time and I think they could look good in resin! What was that about focus???

11.01.2022 Drawings for stencils done with Procreate on the iPad, cut from Mylar. All set for more enamelling next week! I love working with masks... This pendant is reversible, its always nice to have options, I like the white & blue side best but the aqua side will be good for summer!
11.01.2022 I love how Jules incorporated pieces of a treasured necklace in her very first sterling silver chain. @jasobczyk
10.01.2022 During lockdown I played with paper and Gelli printing. I wanted to make some coloured mockups to use as a starting point for enamelling. Instant inspiration! I mixed my enamel colours as close as I could get to the limited palette I used for my painted paper collages. This is a bit of work to set up initially but now all these colours are in my enamel palette and ready to use whenever I want them. Im happy with how the enamel turned out, they never look exactly like paint of course but it was interesting to work with.
10.01.2022 One extra day! 2 places available on Sunday 9 August. Come and join me if you can! For more details see link in bio.
09.01.2022 Another piece to go with my new pendant. Had to make it blue, seems that was the one most people thought worked best. I had the silver ring already, it had something else set on it. Im happier with an enamel on it, seems to suit it dont you think? How do you like my foliage bits? Got them a little while ago from @twig_by_twig they are so lovely to work with!
09.01.2022 Nice pendant, modified first project by @sallytremethick
08.01.2022 It’s on again! The first weekend has one place left, taking bookings for the second weekend now. This workshop is the most fun of all the classes I teach, so looking forward to it! DM me to book!
08.01.2022 Its happening again! Our annual Stencil Enamelling workshop in Nerang, on the Gold Coast. Book now, link in bio
07.01.2022 Double sided pendant, different colour front and back nut used the same design. Cant make up my mind, grey or blue... I think I like them both for now. Waiting a while to decide. What do you think?
06.01.2022 Great start to the Stencil Enamelling weekend, had the first group today and we had a ball! Wow those girls can go! I love what they made, hard to believe it was their very first experience with enamels!
06.01.2022 Chika redesigned her ring, one side shiny contrasted by the matte finish on the other one. And I thought I’d show you her design, these wavy lines spell her name! Clever! @ Gold Coast Jewellery Studio
05.01.2022 Busy busy, these girls were on a mission!
05.01.2022 Just finishing up our last day, so much lovely work produced! Well done! @ Gold Coast Jewellery Studio
04.01.2022 First ring by @__monmonimon__ Yay! Shiny!
04.01.2022 One more workshop, #stencilenamelling has been very popular this year! Now on to another type of enamelling... so many choices!
03.01.2022 I made this pendant a while ago but was never really happy with it. So I decided to change it a bit. I had a painting teacher back in my art school days who used to sayevery painting is an under-painting) And so it is with enamelling, up to a point.
03.01.2022 One of my habits that took a long time to get into. Leaving your disasters lying around to see what they have to say. Paid off again I think! Lots of potential here! Might have to give up sleeping... Do you ever use viewfinders to get new designs?
03.01.2022 Remember those photo albums from the 70s? Self adhesive, they were all the rage and killed all the photos we put in them. These days they are acid proof and work great to store small stencils and some of the masks I use. This one in particular hooks into the others like nobodies business. All sorted now! Me happy!
03.01.2022 What am I doing today???
01.01.2022 One more of these large pendants, I love wearing them because they are still light, even at this size. Most enamels get very heavy and I dont like to carry a millstone around! So I think you really need one in every colour, right? @ Runaway Bay
