25.01.2022 Happy little family. Our lovely lady Clare and her husband now has 2 vibrant boys. My Own Midwife GC has been blessed to journey with this family with both pregnancies. Thankyou family for inviting us along to guide, support and celebrate your parenthood. #family #homebirth
24.01.2022 A satisfied goodbye to this family of 3 whom achieved their goal of a gentle, powerful birth at GCUH Birth Centre. All with the support of their Private Midwife Talitha, Hypno Birthing skills from Belly2Birth Hypnobirthing and commitment as a couple, go Stan & Sarah! You have blossomed into wonderful parents and little Stella is the sweetest girl. May you always have good health
24.01.2022 Today is International Day of the Midwife. Our midwives Talitha & Maria celebrate the honorary space we are able to be in bring with women and their families. Respect to all the other people out there whom devote their energy to midwifery care. #internationaldayofmidwife
23.01.2022 2 babies born safely and 2 families celebrating their expansion. I am one contented Gold Coast midwife with the added joy of going for an ocean dip after attending these powerful births! #homebirth #birthcentre #beachdays
23.01.2022 What a journey these 3 have made! Rachael and Jay describe their son as a chilled babe.. the biggest hurdles have been their own processes coming into parenthood. As wanted a baby is, the reality of parenthood can be super difficult as well as super rewarding. Role changes, navigating breastfeeding, shifts in relationship dynamics, sleepless nights..the list goes on. However, through love, determination, support and time the rocky roads can become smooth. Its been such an honour to witness this family become 3.
22.01.2022 This past weekend this amazing woman became an absolute warrior as she brought her son earthside. With trust, self awareness and the incredible support of her mum, she moved, breathed and became mother. The image is by Spiritysol and reflects the power of this woman’s birth.
22.01.2022 As midwives our ability in practice is expanded by the births we are involved in. There is much to reflect on that may lead us to support women to birth in a way that gives them greater confidence in themselves.
21.01.2022 All wrapped up, snug & cosy. Excellent skills daddy Matt has here. In the first couple of weeks snug wrapping helps with settled sleeping. *DIRECTIONS*... Lay the wrap flat, fold the top down about a palms width, place Bub with edge of blanket at their shoulders. Wrap one side over catching a bent arm under the top fold, repeat with the other tucking under baby then bring bottom part of wrap up and tuck under at elbow level. Bub has a snug boundary that mimics their time in the womb supporting secure feelings and calm See more
21.01.2022 These two brave humans have been on such an adventure that brought them to grasp one another with love, hope and through the rite of passage to parenthood. Congratulations Jess and Jack.. your little Journey is a blessed girl to have you as mum & dad.
21.01.2022 All ready for a beautiful homebirth Winters solstice..the day the daughter chose as her birthday
21.01.2022 Daddy’s love. A father’s touch to his babe is vital, precious and love filled. Research has found that when fathers are hands on with their babes through cuddles, interaction, care activities like bathing, massage and nappy change, the oxytocin levels in their saliva are just as high as the mother. Physiologically, pregnancy, birth and breast feeding charge a woman’s oxytocin level so it’s pretty special that a daddy’s interactive touch and care achieve the same. Fathers, yours babes need you in all your unique ability..it nurtures the bond. Here is new daddy @jeremyroske with his sweet daughter #daddydaughter #lovingtouch #oxytocin
19.01.2022 Just like one breathe at a time. We will move through this time.
18.01.2022 Separating the placenta from baby can be done by burning as this family did together for baby Asher. Creating a guard to protect baby from the heat of the candle, the flame is held at the cord by the family while the cord is twisted. Gently, gradually it separates and the end is left charred and dry. Much like sealing the end of a rope, its best the end is totally burnt to ensure its sealed. Stunning capture by Hadas Images
18.01.2022 Welcoming the daughter - Kaimani arrived gently and with much welcome as her grandmother, great grandmother, aunties and father all supported her mother to birth at home, into water as she had wanted. Safely held, lovingly supported, what a beautiful birth it was.
18.01.2022 Ooh love sweet love Let us see what we have created. The depths of wonder, the excitement of possibility..it is endless. The blessing of togetherness, creation and parenthood, captured here by Lana Bell Photography. Nurtured by love and bravery, supported by midwife Talitha & Maria #homebirth #family

15.01.2022 Happy Summers Solstice to all our women and their families. How blessed are we to have the fullness of this bright day, warmth and abundance.
15.01.2022 Very excited to be able to share this incredible video by Lana Bell Photography of the birth of Koa, to Jackie and Joel. Maria and Talitha provided the Midwifery support on the beautiful sunny day in the couples home. Jackie used her inner knowing, leant on the strength from her man and techniques of Hypnobirthing as taught by Meaghan Amor to help bring their son earthside through the water. Thankyou so much for choosing My Own Midwife in your journey to parent hood...its been an honour and joy. https://vimeo.com/412605918
14.01.2022 BIRTH TRAUMA AWARENESS WEEK Birth is a major event of powerful vulnerability and transformation. For some women how this occurs can be traumatic. At My Own Midwife GC our goal is to facilitate a woman to know her incredible capacity and be central in every decision made. Through information sharing, safe exploration of the pregnancy journey and trusted companionship, we as midwives will support the most positive journey possible. Trauma can be healed and women need not be alone in their healing. Reach out and know you are valued, as is your birth worthy of empowered experience and respect.

13.01.2022 A special goodbye to Keani and her sweet daughter Kaimani today. This baby girl was born on a Sunday morning at home surrounded by her family. Her mum was an absolute Queen as she flowed with her body and birthed in the water. Her Hypnobirthing and the love of her family got her through. Such a privilege to be midwife through your her journey.
13.01.2022 Our midwives devote themselves to being available to their clients. It’s all in your hands! Your investment in continuity of Midwifery care goes a long way.
13.01.2022 Mother and daughter share their happiest smiles at their final visit with Midwife Talitha. Jaimi explored with love and curiosity the possible avenues of this pregnancy going onto to powerfully birth her babe in the comforting arms of her husband. Such a wow moment witnessing her labour. Thankyou Jaimi for being so brave, trusting and beautiful. May Halle grow to be just like you and more.
12.01.2022 Have you ever wondered what a breastfeed looks like? Our Breastfeeding Peer Supporter Nicky has kindly made this video to help explain what a breastfeed looks l...ike. Lots of mums tell us they worry about breastfeeding because they cant see what their baby is getting. It is very rare that a mum wont make enough milk for her baby. So although you cant see what is going in there are others ways to can tell if your baby is feeding well. Take a look at their nappy!! We have attached a simple check list, but if you have any worries please contact the Health Visitor Service desk on 03003045076 Monday-Friday Peer supporter helpline over the weekend 07920466660 Your body is amazing it has the ability to make milk for your baby that is unique to them. Your breast milk is packed with antibodies that will help your baby fight infection. 12.01.2022 Delaying the clamping of the cord can be at the parents request ...1minute...2mins... until the pulsation ceases. As long as baby is well and consideration is made to how the birth of your placenta will occur, delaying the clamping or tying of the cord is your choice.
11.01.2022 An interesting little film about the amazing-ness of the womb. Take a look! https://www.facebook.com/frederico.roberto/videos/10219658445985350
11.01.2022 Upon the peace of an afternoon, a woman’s eyes shone a bright. Her body surged with love birthing a healed version of herself in the form of a dear babe. Breath brought Spirit to the babe when the family called invitation come join us dear girl!. Two midwives embraced in gratitude and reverence for the transition to life they were part of.... Thankyou @emma.jane.patrick and family for having @myownmidwifegc journey with you. Such an honour #homebirth #hypnobirthing #waterbirth #privatemidwife #spiritualmidwifery
11.01.2022 Establishing breast feeding looks different for every family. Sometimes it means not wearing a top or bra for days on end as skin to skin soothes baby, encourages the milk supply and makes latching baby supported. Other time it looks like pumping at intervals as often as feed times as the latch is difficult, a work in progress and breast stimulation is important in establishing milk production. Whatever it looks like, the journey is unique to each mamma and baby. shared with mothers permission
10.01.2022 I am so grateful to have Maria as my colleague. She is stoic and caring, professional and compassionate. It’s such an incredible experience to be there for one another as we deliver the best possible, safe birthing support we can. #homebirth #privatemidwife #strongwomen #shegotmyback

09.01.2022 A beautifully prepared for family birthing event welcoming the 6th child to @alisha.bourke and her husband. The presence of exhaltation and complete trust was held by husband, children, midwives, birth photographer and most fiercely by the birthing mama herself. Welcome to life little Tamsyn

07.01.2022 The beautiful accomplishment of this couples focus, trust and hard work..caught here by the Photographer of the_birth_day. We had such a special time supporting the birth of Jackie and Joels son in water in theirhome... welcome Koa!
07.01.2022 In all the experiences of being with women birthing, the simple breath for strength, release and belief was so supportive. Hypnobirthing is such a valuable tool in supporting the trust and connection to breath. I recommend to all women to do their own investing to see if this might appeal to them. Meaghan Amour offers her next free information session May 16th. See the link attached. https://www.meaghanamor.com.au/events
07.01.2022 Yoga is a great way to connect with your breath, move your body for strength and flexibility whilst creating focused time for yourself and connecting with your baby. It is a great way to support your changing pregnant body, prepare for birth and supports your recovery. Group classes are open again and Yogababy Australia has a 6 week course available. Look into it mammas in the making! https://www.facebook.com/events/868469980312402/

06.01.2022 Leaning on for strength, support and love. Stan was by Sarahs side constantly as she breathed through each surge. When she felt weak he gave her encouragement and never lost sight of her innate ability. Sarah moved and flowed then beautifully birthed her baby girl into water, making the first breath a blessed release once the caul was peeled from her face. Its very special to be born in the caul, membranes still intact and its certainly helped shape the calm, curious disposition this daughter has. Welcome to parenthood Sarah and Stan, you both were so full of trust and calm. Gratitude for Gold Coast University Hospital providing a safe, supportive place for their birth.
06.01.2022 How special is this! The connection to our mother and grandmother!
06.01.2022 Currently GCUH allows 2 support people to be with a pregnant or labouring woman. This could be a birth partner and other family member or photographer or doula. Unfortunately children are not permitted to come into the Birth Centre at this time. Our midwives are not included in the number of support people as we are a womans essential care provider. Changes to COVID restrictions change often so if need be check the link attached. https://www.qld.gov.au//public-health-di/hospital-visitors
05.01.2022 A special team farewell to Charlee and baby Elsie today. What an achievement...VBAC, waterbirth, a thriving 6 week old exclusively breast feeding! Well done to Charlee and her husband for calling in the team they needed creating a positive journey of growth and wonder.
05.01.2022 Breastfeeding... it’s a journey in its own. The Thompson Method is a great guide in finding the way
05.01.2022 GCUH has changes to its visiting policy. Everyone whom enters the hospital needs to be fever screened and perform hand hygiene... and wear a mask. During labour the support people will need to wear a mask, as will your midwife but the woman does not require to wear one. Get your reusable mask on etsy.com.au or disposable ones can be purchased. Consider your impact on the environment. Mask pictured is from etsy.com/shop/thehouseofarax... https://www.goldcoast.health.qld.gov.au//changes-gold-coas

01.01.2022 The New year of 2021 welcomes in a new son to Jamey & Alan. This beautiful homebirth was a family event with all present. Welcome to the world Kier, little dark haired boy
01.01.2022 Sending out some reassurance to expectant women in this time when community transmissions in Victoria are increased. Here on the Gold Coast, women planning a hospital birth can have 1-2 people support them at the Gold Coast University Hospital. Warm water immersion is still supported for those women deemed clinically suitable. Should a woman be symptomatic of or positive to COVID-19, then warm water immersion would not be supported to protect the health care workers. A recent RANZCOG message for pregnant women and families has had some women concerned. I assure Gold Coast ladies that current community transmissions of COVID-19 are not increased so warm water immersion or water birth remains supported.
01.01.2022 This is what a hospital visit looks like. If you are a labouring lady no mask required. We are actually smiling behind those blue masks
