02.01.2022 Over the last 18 years, Victorian households have been sending less waste to landfill. Figures recently released for the 2018-19 financial year reveal annual wa...ste-to-landfill per person has dropped by 51kg since baseline data commenced in 2001-02. Over the same period, more organic material and recyclables are also now being collected through kerbside services, with materials collected for recycling increasing by 11 kg per person. By reducing our waste to landfill, we also reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to Victoria’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, by helping to build a circular, climate-resilient economy. There’s still more that can be done to improve recycling outcomes of course. But through data, we can identify opportunities to rethink how we do things including what we choose to make, buy, use and recycle.
