16.01.2022 I keep asking Gede for some work related garden photos to share with you but he always tells me he is too busy. So to remind you that he is still about and working hard, I took my own photo - G'Day the Satay Guy hard at work

13.01.2022 You know you are a gardener if.......

11.01.2022 Today my family in Bali will be celebrating Galungan, the most important feast for Balinese Hindus. The festival is a celebration to honor the creator of the universe (Ida Sang Hyang Widi) and the spirits of the honored ancestors. It symbolizes the victory of good (Dharma) over evil (Adharma) and encourages the Balinese to show their gratitude with offerings, prayer, and dance. Galungan occurs twice a year in the 210-day cycle of the Balinese calendar and marks the time of th...e year when the spirits of the ancestors are believed to visit the earth. Balinese Hindus perform rituals that are meant to welcome and entertain these returning spirits. The house compounds that make up the nucleus of Balinese society come alive with devotions offered by the families living within. Families offer bountiful sacrifices of food and flowers to the ancestral spirits, expressing gratitude and hopes for protection. These sacrifices are also offered at local temples, which are packed with devotees. The whole island sprouts tall bamboo poles, or penjor, which are usually decorated with fruit, coconut leaves, and flowers and set up on the right of every residence entrance. At each gate, you'll also find small bamboo altars set up especially for the holiday, each one bearing woven palm-leaf offerings for the spirits. We can not be with them this year but they are in our hearts and prayers as we make offerings in our own small way, carried to them on the drifting wafts of incense. Selamat Hari Raya Galungan dan Kuningan to all our friends celebrating

10.01.2022 We enjoy following a range of plant and gardening pages for interest and to learn. This article popped up today and thought we would share it. Sometimes its just the simple things. Happy gardening

09.01.2022 Anyone growing leeks in their garden, maybe give this a try

04.01.2022 We hope that each of you and your families enjoyed the festive season and welcomed 2021 without too much drama or incident. Here's hoping that this year will bring us all a return to some form of normality and we can take into it something positive from our own experiences of living through a global pandemic in modern times. We wish each of you prosperity and most importantly health and well being throughout the year as well as lots of time in your gardens We where so gra...teful that the boarders to SA stayed open over the holidays which enabled us to reunite with family, take a well earned break and play tourists visiting Adelaide, Yorke Peninsula, the Barossa & Riverland including Mildura with many friends along the way. Returning home we where amazed to see our corn and pumpkin crop growing well and thanks to these summer rains the tomatoes and chillies where not dead We are easing back into work this week, making contact with regular customers to ascertain changing needs and taking new bookings daily. Please feel free to get in touch and re-confirm or secure a date if you have special projects in mind and we look forward to working with you all throughout the year! Kind Regards, Gede (Remes) & Nicki See more

02.01.2022 How you use your front garden can vastly impact how it is that you interact with others in your neighborhood, a lesson we learned this Summer when we decided to plant corn and pumpkins out front in an otherwise unused space whilst we wait to build a new home and establish a permanent garden. The grass was dug up and the soil improved before planting in November and all the while, passers by would stop to say hi and have a chit chat. It has been wonderful meeting new people, ...locals and holiday visitors as they passed by walking their dogs and pushing prams. Even better now as they walk down to the new Inverloch Corner Store for a paper, a coffee or ice-cream, it just feels like the kind of neighbourhood where we all grew up as kids and knew who lived around us. From inside the house we hear children exclaiming with wonder in their voices look dad its corn or adults discussing how the corn is growing, for something so simple its been such a huge converstaion starter. For Gede (Remes) who misses village life in Bali where everyone knows everyone and growing your own food to supplement the diet is the norm maybe it is time for us to consider how we use our gardens and how those decisions can improve our quality and joy in living where we do. When I hear him chatting to someone out front as he is watering or weeding I know I am seriously reconsidering that tall privacy front fence that I had planned. Just my thoughts for the evening Happy Gardening, Nicki & Gede Remes See more
