25.01.2022 This is the face of fear. The face of being trapped in a tiny cage. Of having a dog wanting to attack you. Of having cigarette smoke blown carelessly into your face and tiny lungs. Of not having a single toy for comfort. Of being referred to as an it, instead of a complex parrot which has a name and feelings. I drove for 3 hours and 200 kilometres last night to purchase her and her friend, after seeing a concerning ad online. She spent the entire car ride either shaking and... hyperventilating like this, or frantically flapping around in their cage. I don’t know where she’s come from, or why her previous owners got her in the first place. But I do know that now she is safe, and she is loved. Her story will not end with being mistreated. And that is why our work matters, and why I will gladly drop everything on a Friday night to go and save lives. See more
