22.01.2022 LAKE STREET SHARED PATH SET TO OPEN IN NEW YEAR Work on the Lake Street Shared Path in Merimbula is nearing completion, however challenges with sourcing mate...rials, brought on by COVID-19, mean the path won’t open until March 2021. Delays to the project timetable have been caused by disruptions to the supply chain for stainless steel, which has impacted the fabrication and installation of safety rails. Council urges residents and holidaymakers to continue accessing Bar Beach and the Merimbula wharf area by car from 16 December when the intersection of Main Street and Lake Street will be reinstated and the street returned to a two-way traffic flow with a speed limit of 25km/hr in place until the project is complete. 17.01.2022 MERIMBULA PEDESTRIANS IGNORING SIGNAGE AND PUTTING THEMSELVES IN DANGER Pedestrians are unnecessarily putting themselves in danger by walking within the const...ruction site of the Shared Path development along Lake Street in Merimbula. The northbound lane of Lake Street has been temporarily closed to traffic for safe construction of the concrete and timber boardwalk. Signage around the site clearly identifies the dangers in accessing the site, which requires everyday use for trucks, excavators and as a laydown area for construction materials. The project’s contractor and his staff have reported being on the receiving end of abusive comments from those who continue to ignore the signage, which is there specifically for their safety. Despite these events, the Lake Street Shared Path development is progressing well. More than half of the boardwalk footing has been completed and the joists for the deck will begin to be installed in October.
