05.01.2022 A little nostalgia and some beautiful words for your Thursday morning. If transport is in your blood like it is ours, we know you'll understand. Source unknown. _____________________________________... As he rolled into that country town And changed down through the gears He was getting a bit over it After 20 something years The thoughts came flooding in again As his mind began to roam All the years spent on the road While his family were at home He shuffled out the door that morning In his usual way He grabbed his hat & walking stick And set off for his day His days were long & boring now He longed for days gone by When he had his trusty workhorse As down the roads they’d fly He pulled up there in that old town Have a stretch & grab a drink Kick the tyres & check the load It was then he heard the clink Of walking stick on asphalt And the sound of shuffling feet An old bloke in a dusty hat Two souls about to meet He said Gday. As he stepped down Admiring his Shine The old bloke looking longingly At the Shining 909 Nice day. The old bloke smiled back His mind exploding with memories Of when he drove the track He stood & sucked in all the scents Of diesel, tyres & heat Remembering all the happy days When he was steady on his feet Drink in hand he wandered out And saw him standing there Leaning on his walking stick Sucking in the air The old blokes off his nut he thought Strolling casually by The old bloke with his shaky legs Wishing he could try Wishing he could have a go Just one more last attempt To remind him of his former life Which on the road he spent Be safe ol mate. the old voice said His eyes now fighting tears From memories of his former life Where he’d spent all his years You too ol cock. he smiled back As he opened up his door Wishing he was elsewhere As the clutch pushed to the floor He eased her out & through the gears And went along his way Never knowing that by saying hi He’d made the old blokes day Two souls that day Just passing by One wishing he was grounded One wishing he could fly
