15.01.2022 It is with deep sadness that I pass onto the Easts Cricketing family, the passing of another of our legends Only a few weeks after the passing of Ray Connor, I have been informed that Brian Cotten passed away last week aged 81 For our younger members, who may not of known Brian, he began playing with the Easts Club in 1961... With his brother Basil and Ray Connor they formed the backbone of our Club for the next twenty years before the three of them retired, together, at the end of the 1979/80 season Brian captained the clubs first grade side on many occasions and was a team member in first grade premierships in the seasons 1964/65, 67/68, 68/69, 69/70 During this period he played 208 games for the club and on a personal level scored 5700 runs which included 5 centuries with a highest score of 148 To put all these figures into perspective, since 1949 when the Easts Cricket Club was formed nearly 1100 cricketers have played for our club. Brian is our clubs leading run scorer His 5700 runs is still to this date, nearly 700 runs in front of the next player. On top of all this, Brian was a very good wicket keeper completing nearly 300 dismissals behind the stumps Brian was not only an Easts Legend but was also a well respected cricketer across the entire Clarence Valley On the field I was told he gave the ball a terrible thrashing. Regularly clearing the fence and scoring his runs at a rapid rate but off the field I found him to be quietly spoken and a real gentleman. You will be sadly missed Our condolences to Brian’s wife Joyce and his family on his passing.

13.01.2022 Some sad news today Ray Connor has passed away aged 97. For those who didn’t know Ray, he was an Easts Cricket Club legend. ... He opened the batting in our very first game back in 1949 and played a total of 226 games for the club scoring 4518 runs and taking 26 wickets. His final game with the club was at the end of the 1979/80 season. He captained the clubs first grade side on many occasions and was a team member in first grade premierships in the seasons 1964/65, 67/68, 68/69, 69/70 On the administrative side of things, Ray basically ran the cricket club in the 1960s and early 70s And it was mostly through his efforts that the club re-emerged in 1960 after folding some five years earlier due to falling player numbers After his retirement Ray was a regular spectator at many Easts game and was the clubs patron for many years I had the privilege of sitting down and talking cricket with Ray at his home on a number of occasions. He loved his cricket and I was amazed how sharp his memory was. He would talk of player’s and matches that happened nearly seventy years ago as if it was yesterday In 2019 we held our Easts club reunion and Ray was in attendance. He loved the night but I think he was a little embarrassed about being the centre of attention which he richly deserved As a club we pass on our condolences to Rays family on his passing. He was a real gentleman He will be sadly missed Ray Connor's funeral details as follows. Tuesday 12th January @ 10.00 am. St JamesAnglican Church Maclean. All welcome. Groups can be seated in family bubbles. Church has various rooms and outside areas with screens. Service will be livestreamed if you cannot attend and would like to watch. Please contact Riverview Funerals Maclean for details.
