02.01.2022 Keep your tax receipts! The ATO has advised that next tax return "season" i.e. for 2019-2020 (the year we're currently in now), all individuals will have to detail each claim made in their tax returns. In prior years, under self assessment, the ATO have accepted total amounts at each line item; next year each claim will have to be itemised. E.g. if a D5 "Other Work Related" claim was $875...in the past, we've claimed the $875 at D5 as one amount with no other breakup required; next year, we have to list individually each item e.g. union fees $600, home office $120, stationery $40, loose tools $115 = $875. The message is: it is more important than ever to keep proper records & receipts!

01.01.2022 At this time of year, I especially reflect on how lucky I am to have great staff members. I do try to follow Richard Branson’s quote: Take care of your employees and they will take care of your business. It’s as simple as that. Christmas party today... yes, accountants know how to party hard!!
