23.01.2022 A variation on the 'rub over' stone setting method, this style was pretty common in medieval jewellery, many examples dating to the 13th-14th C. I'm not sure of the correct name for it, though I've seen it called 'pie crust setting' a couple of times. It doesn't seem to be much used these days but I've always liked the look of it, so I thought I'd give it a go. This is my first attempt, so it's not quite perfect but I think it's worked ok. Sterling silver, fine silver and garnet. #caedmonjohnsonjewellery #silver #sterlingsilver #sterlingsilverjewelry #handmade #medievaljewelry

22.01.2022 Coming up tomorrow night!

21.01.2022 Trying out another old style setting technique. This is a trial piece, nearly right but a couple of little things need sorting out for the next one. The maths of working out a scaleable model are going to be interesting too. Back to the dim and distant days of school geometry lessons I fear. 10mm amethyst in a one piece silver setting. #caedmonjohnsonjewellery #amethyst #handmade #silver

21.01.2022 I haven't done a work in progress series for ages, so here's some pictures of a project from the other day. A pair of silver cuffs in a classic Celtic torc style, showing the stages of construction and a couple of the methods I use to carry them out.

15.01.2022 Been playing around with the "pie crust" setting technique again, this one is my version of a medieval original. Central cabochon garnet with 4 faceted garnets set around the edge, all in hand fabricated Sterling silver. #silver #sterlingsilverjewelry #handmadejewelry #medievaljewellery

15.01.2022 Market night on Monday, see you there!

14.01.2022 New rings in an old style. These designs are based on Bronze Age Irish cloak clasps, adapted to work as a finger ring. The stamps used are my own work, hand engraved from a steel rod. Definitely the most detailed I've done yet! The silver was lightly oxidised to bring out the pattern. #caedmonjohnsonjewellery #silverjewellery #bronzeage #handmadejewellery

13.01.2022 Back from my travels and back in the workshop! Drop into the Handmade Exchange market this Monday for a look at the new designs.

04.01.2022 Trying out a different style of earrings, these are textured with a three lined punch to give a sort of basket weave look to the surface. Each line on the punch is about 3mm long. Hit, turn 90, hit, turn 90, repeat a few times and there you have it! Sterling silver, oxidised to emphasise the pattern. #caedmonjohnsonjewellery #silverjewellery #handmadejewellery
