25.01.2022 What a beautiful illustration that demonstrates our passion for the home vigil..... The pause between the last breath and the first phone call is a moment to be valued as a time for reflection allowing grief to flow naturally and to be felt. Doulas Barb & Jacqui feel very passionately about supporting the dying and their families x #deathanddying #doulabarb #merakiendoflifecare #greenfunerals #wickercoffins #Shrouds #shroudburial #funeral #geelong #ottwayburials #homevigil #deathdoula #doula #endoflife #endoflifeconsultant

19.01.2022 Over the past couple of weeks my yoga teacher has been promoting the savasana pose as an opportunity to practice death It is known as the corpse pose and is m...eant to be an opportunity to not only relax the body but to experience full surrender, detachment and letting go - to feel into the experience of what it would be like to remain in complete stillness. She encourages us contemplate our own deaths during this time and in doing so reflect on how we are living our lives currently and if that changes our attitude toward feeling ready if death were to come knocking. She uses the real language. She says death and dying and she really encourages embodying the experience and sitting with/feeling into the questions/provocations about living life to our fullest potential and our attitude toward death How refreshing!. . I love how she is bringing this insight, wisdom and provocation into a mainstream practice in a mainstream gym. See more

18.01.2022 Today I had the privilege of helping out with a family led memorial service. When Carmen Barnsley and I went to choose a location for the service in a beautiful nearby park Carmen was joined by a pretty little King Parrot, I stopped nearby under a canopy of leafy branches the King Parrot then flew directly at me at eye level landing suddenly just above my head ...I immediately asked the parrot if it was happy with our choice and the bird not 18 inches from me made it clear th...at she was, the bird then flew high up into the canopy and proceeded to watch the service with interest changing positions often but always within reach of a human ....as the service concluded and family and friends were at the river releasing messages into the river the Parrot stayed with the chief mourners guarding them until the final goodbyes were said ....have you experienced the guidance of a loved one as you conduct ceremonies in their honour See more

08.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending a Compassionate Hearts on the Bellarine event called Demystifying Palliative Care. I was able to speak o...n a few things I am very passionate about being a Doula. It was also wonderful reconnecting with Dr David Brumley, Kate Jackson and the members of the Compassionate Hearts. We met at the #Dying2know event held in Portarlington. So great talking with like minded people. #Merakiendoflifecare #geelongdeathanddying #palliativecare #deathdoula

01.01.2022 Happy to share this wonderful initiative from the Volunteers from Barwon health Happy National Palliative Care Week & National Volunteer Week! It is with GREAT pride and excitement that Barwon Health can officially announce that the Room 64 podcast has officially gone up on iTunes, Spotify, and the Barwon Health website (links below).... Barwon Health website: https://www.barwonhealth.org.au/podcasts iTunes - http://bit.ly/room64pod Spotify - http://bit.ly/room64spotify This has been an absolute labour of love over the past few months. For those of you who dont know Evelyn Brooks was a bit of an adopted nan to me (Jen Walsh)& my partner from the time we arrived in Australia in 2007. She died in Room 64 on May 7, 2018. Her daughter came up with the idea of a podcast because (to quote Christine): "While I was sitting in Room 64 hanging out with Mum, I thought how come I dont know about any of this stuff and its all new to me? We worked together to capture stories from staff and volunteers and have initially created 4 episodes to be released weekly. I loved Evelyn dearly, so to be able to work with her daughter Christine and volunteer Dominic to pull this off feels incredibly special. Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this project. Thank you to everyone who participated in interviews, and the amazing support from our Comms & Marketing team and volunteer Di behind the scenes. If youre a Facebook user, please feel free to share the Barwon Health post about the podcast. Hopefully thatll help us spread the message far and wide that its ok to talk about death & dying.
