24.01.2022 UPDATED 24NOV2020: GET IN YOUR CANOES AND GO FOR A PADDLE!!! WOOOOOOOH!!!!! [masks to be carried and only required on land where distancing is not possible, eg ...consider how your canoes are lifted] Take a moment and allow this to sink in Victoria: you haven't paddled as a team since COVID restrictions began. You have watched the other states paddle on without you. Metro lockdowners haven't even had access to their singles until the last few weeks. REMIND YOURSELVES YOU ARE STRONG AND YOU ARE COMPETITIVE! SSZ IS BACK ON THE WATER!!!! WOOOOOH!!!! See more

19.01.2022 Beautiful morning for a training session -

19.01.2022 Great day yesterday for Mark AlexB & Dean who smashed it in the V3 for the impossible race from Torquay - Barwon heads - Dean has even hotted up the V3 with a battery powered pump to keep water out of the canoe !

17.01.2022 If you paddle in Victorian waters here is the latest advice, you can no longer go paddling, the fines are substantial! As far as Im aware no other state or ter...ritory has specifically mentioned canoeing so you should be good to go. Keep checking though as these things change on a daily basis! See more

17.01.2022 Hold on to your paddles and sanity while keeping your physical distance!!! Clubs are hopefully completing their COVID-safe plan for SSZ to assess to be ready to... hit the water when its safe to start competing again. NB: Victorians in lockdown zones are still able to paddle their own canoes but only single craft in groups of 2 (and yes we all know who the nutters are still out on the water in these chilly winter conditions!!!) 17.01.2022 Save the date! Sydney harbour outrigger canoe race: 13 March long course approx 25km 7am start, short course and long course. ... All participants to be registered by end of Feb and we will be looking for volunteers to assist with this event. Can clubs please inform us of your interest and potentially how many crews to enable us to plan. Clubs may be asked to loan canoes to interstate participants depending on border restrictions. All regattas will be held in strict accordance to government guidelines regarding COVID. We ask that everyone take responsibility, keep updated, get tested if in doubt, and listen to the government advice given.

12.01.2022 PUBLIC NOTICE NOC 2021 Norfolk Island Waa Outrigger Club has come to the difficult decision to postpone the 2021 Norfolk Ocean Challenge. The committee has mad...e this decision after taking into consideration all factors involved with the impact of the Covid19 pandemic, the continuing uncertainty around travel restrictions, the recent release of restricted flights into Norfolk Island, and the impact COVID restrictions will have on running the event with volunteer support. The Norfolk Island Waa Outrigger Club will be working towards delivering the Norfolk Ocean Challenge for 2022 to the standards that the paddling family has been accustomed to receiving and we apologise for any disappointment but hope that everyone understands the difficult decision the club has made. The dates for the 2022 NOC will be 18-23 January 2022 and we hope to see all our paddling family then. The club would like to thank all their sponsors who have continued to support this great event and the paddling community for your understanding and support. See more

12.01.2022 Dear Members, Clubs and Stakeholders, Due to global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association (AOCRA) Board of Directo...rs in conjunction with its Zone Leaders have come to the difficult and mutual decision to cancel all events until 30 September 2020. This includes the National Marathon Titles, AOCRA Aito, Trans Tasman Gubbi Gubbi, National Junior Marathon Titles, Coaching Courses and Camps. We have been monitoring the situation closely and adhering to the advice of the Federal Government and other relevant authorities since the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. Following the updated information and advice over the weekend from the Federal Government, and in consideration of the wider paddling community, the Board and Zones today made a decision. The decision to cancel was a very difficult one, and we are very disappointed to have to do so. However, it was done taking into consideration (but not limited to) the following: * The unknown timelines that we are all facing in terms of travel restrictions and the impact of life as we know it; * The overall health and safety of our national paddling community; * Member Zones already heavily impacted by COVID-19; * The risk to our Operations Team, Volunteers, Sub Commitees and broader stakeholders. As the national association, we have an obligation to ensure the safety of our membership and act in their best interests and in that of the sport of Outrigger Canoeing. We acknowledge and recognise the amount of work that any Zones and in particular, their local organising committees, have done in preparation for these events. We also acknowledge the significant financial impact this decision will have on Clubs, Zones and the association. AOCRA will arrange refunds for all entry fees already paid in advance excluding direct transaction costs incurred as part of the process. The Board have commenced discussions with our sponsors and stakeholdes and will be undertaking an assessment of the impact our ability to deliver on approved Strategic Projects this year based on this decision. We will also be using this time to plan for the future so as to we ensure we bounce back stronger than ever, when the time comes. In this difficult and uncertain time that we are all facing, it is fortunate to know that our paddling community is strong and it is important that we look out for each other. Please make sure that you are all adhering to COVID-19 guidelines and practice physical distancing wherever possible as communicated previously. Should you have any questions, please direct them to [email protected] Yours sincerely, Katherine Cole President, AOCRA

10.01.2022 Massive congratulations to MOCC & GOCC ( dean & Alex) on smashing the Grest ocean paddle - & speaking of smashing Clarkie looks like he needs a new waka

10.01.2022 Slightly late post - come & try day on Saturday- great team effort & a few hopeful new paddlers

09.01.2022 Official word- M2M postponed until 2021... bring on next year!

09.01.2022 Have you seen this canoe? It is housed at the Geelong Canoe Club but lately it’s not on the rack. This craft is very important to a couple of young C1 paddlers at the Club and without it they cannot train. Please return it to the rack if you have borrowed it, no questions asked.

08.01.2022 For all our kiwi paddling buddies

08.01.2022 GOCC will be suspending all official club training until further notice Informal paddles on privately owned oc1 oc2 or other small craft may be organised Stay safe & healthy

08.01.2022 It took awhile but we finally got there, keep your paddle wet!

07.01.2022 This is a massive list, and it shows just how committed we are to backing our fantastic local sports clubs. Every club here received $1000 earlier in the year t...o help them keep going after these activities were restricted. Were now giving these clubs a further $500 to ensure they can return to play as soon as restrictions are lifted. Itll be paid automatically into their club accounts, meaning no forms need to be filled out. I look forward to joining these clubs for a game as soon as I can.

07.01.2022 - INSURANCE UPDATE - Weve had many enquires regarding insurance during the COVID-19 period and post COVID-19 period in relation to the Return to Sport Plan. ...We can confirm that AOCRA Insurance policies are still current and active. There are no exclusions under the current policies if a COVID plan is not produced. Whilst there is not an exclusion on the Public Liability Insurance policy relating to COVID-19 directly, AOCRA and its members have a duty to exercise reasonable precautions to prevent personal injury and property damage and to comply with all statutory obligations, by-laws or regulations imposed by any public authority in respect of the safety of persons or property. If Clubs do not comply with State Government regulations, for example by ignoring social distancing or self-isolation requirements then insurers may deny a claim on the argument that you breached this duty of care. We would highly recommend members take every effort to follow all governmental guidelines enacted in accordance with the COVID-19 pandemic. Please be reminded that the Personal Accident insurance does not cover any type of illness, such as that which may arise from infection with COVID-19. If you have any queries about these changes please contact the insurer directly. Yours in paddling, Katherine Cole AOCRA President

07.01.2022 Quick Huli practise at Torquay... few weeks to get some more practice in!!!

06.01.2022 Attention club's, The year is fast coming to a close and many of you are holding your sign on days for the new years membership. It’s a timely reminder to think... about safety. One way we do this is to conduct and record our swim and huli tests. It is a requirement to conduct these tests annually, however it is highly recommended that you do it more regularly to ensure paddlers are experienced in what to do when the canoe does huli. Huli training drills should be done to simulate race conditions, if you wear something while you are paddling e.g. water pack you should have it on for the training drill. Training drills should also be done with and without racing covers fitted to the canoe.

05.01.2022 Fun day out at Pt rd knight with MOCC - thanks to Katerina Epae we caught the longest ride ever
