22.01.2022 WHAT IS ADAPTATION . An adaptation is any change that occurs from training that results in an improvement in fitness/performance. . The recovery period after training is where the magic happens and all adaptations occur.... . For example, during a training session, we get small microscopic tears in the muscle, which can cause the unplesant muscle soreness we get after a particularly hard session and find it hard to sit on the dunny! . During the recovery period after the session, our bodies mobilise a clean up crew to remove damaged tissues and rebuild muscles. So, if we allow adequate recovery after the training session, this process leads to an increase in muscle size. . If were consistent with our training and recovery, over time, these small increases in muscle size, lead to an increase in muscle strength and therefore performance. . Therefore, though we still have to do the training to drive these adaptations (or improvements), its not actually during the training session that youre getting fitter, faster or stronger, its during the recovery period that these improvements are occuring. .
