11.01.2022 Oberon High School's Mr Vinton noticed some students were feeling powerless in the face of this pandemic. So, he teamed up with Geelong Tech School to empower ...students with this engineering and design challenge. Students from across Victoria are being encouraged to participate. At the moment, masks aren't designed to be reusable, meaning they end up in landfill once they're disposed of. They're also not designed with style in mind and that's a trivial but real barrier for some people in wearing them. Students will address these problems through using 3D printing, sewing, laser cutting, and screen printing. This challenge is encouraging students to develop their science skills in a very relevant way. And it was started right here in a Geelong public school. I want to thank Mr Vinton and Geelong Tech School director Leanne Collins for their efforts in this area. For more information, you can visit https://bit.ly/2ZKij0W.
10.01.2022 A new program is teaching high-school students how to utilise data and clever technology to solve complex, real-world problems. 07.01.2022 Geelong Tech School answering a call out to work on local solutions While we are all practicing and developing ways to inhibit the spread of CoVID19 the Geelong Tech school is supporting the adaptation and prototyping of face shields and a intubation box for local medical use to keep our practitioners safe. The box, adapted from models used on the front lines overseas, are for use during intubation. The final product has been reviewed and will soon be in production for St John of God hospital in Geelong. The intubation box is currently being offered to other hospitals. The shields are being developed to prevent droplet transfer. They are designed for health professionals who cannot access medical masks and other community members who might need this level of protection.
06.01.2022 It's term 2, and unfortunately we're unable to have all the great students from our partner schools come in to engage in our programs... ...so we're bringing the programs to the students!
