24.01.2022 COVID 19 UPDATE In these uncertain times we want to reassure you that we are still open for business as usual but have implemented some changes to ensure the safety of our clients and staff. Starting tomorrow (March 24th) we will implement the following:... 1. We will be limiting the number of people entering the clinic. There will be a limit of ONE person per pet allowed into the reception and consulting room. This is to ensure that there is limited people in clinic. When you enter the reception area please use the hand sanitiser provided. 2. Please do not come to the clinic if you have been overseas, have been in contact with a known COVID-19 case or have been feeling ill. If your pet is sick we will still see you, but it will be a curb-side appointment where we collect your pet from the car. We will unfortunately not be able to let you in the clinic, but our staff will take good care of your pet. 3. If you are in need of medication refills please call the clinic and we will be able to arrange to have these medications ready for you. Please understand that these changes are meant to protect both clients coming into the clinic and our staff. We have lots of clients that are in a high-risk age group and we are very concerned about protecting them. Please follow the above guidelines and we will do our best to take care of your pets!

22.01.2022 HAVE YOU MISSED SIGNS YOUR DOG MIGHT BE IN PAIN?? How good are dogs having it these days?! Walk in the morning, another at lunch andif the hooman is bored again, another by 3pm! With many of us still working at home, our canine kids are continuing to love the extra interaction. But maybe you’ve noticed some changes during all this time together? Perhaps your dog is a big stiff in the mornings, or sore after a big walk? It could be osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis, also known a...s arthritis, can be tricky to pick in its early stages. Changes in the joint aren’t yet visible and, with four legs, our dogs can shift their weight and posture to cope with pain. We often hear hear owners say, he’s just slowing down, or he’s just a bit stiff. Many don’t notice that their dog is not as willing to exercise and play as he once was, as the change is so gradual. Unfortunately, but the time it becomes obvious, the arthritis is quite advanced and causing considerable pain. Keep an eye on your young dog too, as they can also suffer from arthritis. Call us if you notice any of these symptoms the pain of arthritis can be treated! Stiffness when getting out of bed in the morning (yes, just like us humans!) Limping or stiffness after a walk or exercise Licking or gnawing at joints or paws Puffy joints Abnormal gait Reluctance to walk upstairs or jump Reluctance to play and run Change in behaviour/aggression Postural change or muscle wastage See more

06.01.2022 Osteoarthritis WHAT EXACTLY IS IT? Like humans, animals can suffer from osteoarthritis (commonly known as arthritis). And, as with humans, it doesn’t just impact the elderly. Younger dogs can also suffer from this incredibly painful condition. So, what exactly is osteoarthritis? As the name suggests, ‘osteo’ refers to bone, and ‘itis’ refers to inflammation. A degenerative disease, it progressively gets worse over time if left untreated. How common is arthritis? Arthritis a...ffects at least one in five, and is the number one cause of chronic pain in dogs. It can significantly impact their quality of life, dramatically reducing their ability to walk, run, jump and play. What causes arthritis? The number one cause of arthritis is wear and tear on the protective layer of the bone, called cartilage. This wear and tear creates inflammation within the joint, leading to pain and further degradation of the cartilage cells. Developmental issues in younger dogs, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, are other common causes of arthritis. That’s why it’s so important to ensure your young dog maintains a healthy weight (go easy on the treats!) and is fed a high-quality diet. Keep an eye out for our next post where we’ll talk about identifying the early signs of arthritis, and what to do about them. If you think your dog may be suffering from arthritis, please call us for a check-up. See more
