12.01.2022 GEELONG SENIOR/ MASTERS League 1 Event Report The Geelong Weightlifting Centre ran a Senior and Masters event of February 24th. We had four students in the comp. We had no girls youth, U15 or junior girls in this comp, a situation we plan to rectify soon by recruiting some lifters. In the boys, they all lifted well with Joe Hiram (17), Alex Mifsud (16) and Tyreese Cruz (14) all qualifying for Vic Senior Champs. PB’s abound, with 13 year old Charlie Grimes Snatching 43 (+5kg) ...C+J 47 (+2 kg) o total 90 (+7kg). Alex Mifsud (+5kg), Joe Hiram (CJ +1kg) and Tyreese Cruz (+17kg) all recording personal bests. Our lifters also broke many U15, youth and junior records. Tyreese Cruz broke Snatch, C+J and Total state U15 and youth records with 75/ 105/ 180 respectively, and the Australian U15 C+J record. Alex broke the 81kg Snatch and Total Victorian Youth record with 73 and 160. Joe broke the Victorian Junior C+J with 135. And finally, the best male lifter award was won by Joe Hiram with a best Snatch of 105, C+J of 135, Total 240 and Sinclair of 293.5. Altogether, a great days lifting. Many thanks to Ange Kenos and Milos Trnka for coming up and refereeing. Because they made it, our records counted, so thanks so much. Our next event is on March 29th, which is the Geelong School League 1 event. It is open to school students from Western suburbs and Western region of Victoria, and we shall also run a shall also be holding a Tertiary Education section for U23 lifters. We are currently recruiting lifters from schools, Deakin University and Gordon Institute to join a four week program and have a go at lifting. Weightlifting is a fantastic sport, we run programs for young participants from 6-9, 9-12, 13-17 and 18-23. Come and join our programs.

04.01.2022 The AWF National Youth and U15 Championships has just occurred, and we had two lifters involved. Alex Mifsud was Victorian team captain and competed in the Yout...h 73kg division. He lifted brilliantly, with 6 out of 6 successful attempts, and PB's on his Snatch (80kg - 4kg PB), C+J (90kg - 2kg PB) and total (170kg - 7kg PB). you can't do better than that. Well done Alex. Tyreese Cruz also lifted brilliantly, with a best Snatch of 88kg (4kg PB), C+J of 114 (1kg PB). Both of these were National U15 records, and so was his total of 202kg (5kg PB). He won the U15 96kg event, and was runners up in the Youth event. He had two very narrow misses with 92 and 114. Brilliant lifting Tyreese. Both our lifters were outstanding representatives for us. Congratulations Alex and Tyreese
01.01.2022 V Strength YOUTH STRENGTH/ SPEED/ ANTHROPOMETRY TESTING PROGRAM V Strength is introducing a strength, speed and anthropometry testing protocol to measure athletic abilities and growth of the youth of Geelong. These are important bio-motor abilities for Weightlifting and general athletic performance. The variables and the changes over time may highlight growth and development needs of each youth and offer direction to training interventions to assist development and improvemen...t in long term health markers throughout growth. Strength and Speed have been linked to athletic performance, injury prevention, bone development and health. The childhood development of strength and speed is recognised as a factor in prevention of many health conditions in later life. Strength is also linked to injury prevention in youth sport. Through this program, we shall develop a comprehensive chronical age related profile of Geelong Youth. Through each school, we are hoping to establish an annual testing process to measure changes throughout youth. We shall offer a report on the overall values, average and peak for each year of birth and month of birth group. At the end of the year, a report will be written that highlights the average of Geelong and where the school sits in relation to the average. The school, sporting club and/or individual shall receive a report on the testing results. This shall give a general indication of the direction of developmental needs for the individual. Whilst this is a useful tool, we are not in position to link this with biological development due to the single reading of the test. The opportunity will be available for individuals to monitor on bi-monthly intervals to include growth rate and biological development over a period of time. Further, the annual change can show rate of growth and development of the individual, and offer longitudinal data for analysis. You will receive a quarterly journal that provides an analysis of the testing results and articles related to youth development. The latest papers on youth development shall be reviewed, and discussions on various topics in youth development, youth performance and youth Weightlifting shall be included. Overtime, we shall deliver a comprehensive analysis of speed and strength norms for all age groups in Geelong, rates of growth, body composition and biological maturation effects on development, activity levels and development, profile of characteristics of the different sports. We are looking to run this program with schools Physical Education classes and youth and childhood sporting clubs. Cost is $40 per individual or $20 per person in groups of 3 or more. The program will start late March, at this age we are seeking expressions of interest in the program from schools, sporting clubs and individuals
